I was so frustrated with this game I uninstalled it. Decided to give it another shot, took me about 10 hours of play time over a couple days to really get the hang of it. Still learning a lot but it has become my favorite game to play
I recently started again and was nearly done with it when I had an amazing game last night. it came down to less than 100 tickets for the win and our squad was technically the reason behind the win. 5 of us were trapped behind the enemy frontal assault after getting flanked and pushed on, fire from Northern beaches and Southern Hills. we decided to let them pass and lay low in the bushes, when we got confirmation rom our SL, we were in the process of regrouping but then spotted the an enemy FOB. We let about 8 guys leave the FOB as to not alarm them and decided to take it out ourselves. Shortly after the enemy lost the point as they had no way fast track backup to the site and the team started pushing up. I think we were trapped for about 10mins before we decided to go commando behind enemy lines lol Its games like that in Squad that make me want to hop back into it.
same but i didn't uninstall, just stop rushing and trying to knowledge everything until I realize the sound it's a key component of the game. My problem it's I cant see the round hitting some times, I see the particles of the ground but I don't see the bullet impacts and the fragments of the walls scattering i don't know if its because my graphic settings. I use the blood that came out from the hit of my teammates and the angle they fall to determinate where the shoot came from.
@@adriankamt3261 i definitely agree. Squad is a game that really lets you sit by your teammates if you don't know what you're doing and chances are you're still a valuable asset. Be it taking a medic, resupplying others as rifleman, or simply having a shovel to go build a fob with your SL when the rest of the squad is in combat. I've bought the game because i watched hours of gameplay when i found out about the game, yet there was still a lot to learn. I found the best way to just talk to your squadmates once you find the right squad. Oh and i agree it's hard to locate fire sometimes even now because i have a small monitor. I got pretty good at listening to the report but pinpointing his location is is hard because of the tiny screen.
Great guide. Thinking back I feel like it took me a couple weeks, or 20-30 hours, just to get the basics of the game. I still have some trouble with sound direction now but I've gotten much better at it. What I absolutely love is when I'm shooting at someone from distance and they instantly go prone. Why thank you for making it easier...

Just quit LoL after 10 years and had little experience with the arma series but wanted to try a big squad game out and holy moly this game is amazing! Started earlier this week and found your youtube and fell in love. Super detailed and informative things with each video and you dont throw your sub button in my face every 2 min. Love the content and appreciate you helping a noob out like me so i can learn. Gonna start hard grinding this, keep up the videos and thank you!

Snap, Crack, Pop. Remember back in physics class. The bullet is travelling faster than the speed of sound. Based on that we hear, the snap(fastest) of the bullet going past you over your head(ears) the crack(2nd fastest) of it hitting past just you on the ground(this is a hit or miss because of the terrain it contacts, concrete/metal will give the loudest crack, dirt much less so), then finally the pop(report,sound) of the gun going of in the distance.

my main issue is target identification, like VISUALLY identifying targets i can look at the team selection screen and see an obvious difference but then when i see someone i hesitate to shoot cause idk if its friendly or enemy cause my main concern is tking.
Ditto: first saw Inglorious Blueberries as a squad name on another server that was not as nice as advertised and after watching this video and reading your comment, spent most of this evening playing on the IG server surrounded by nice people only plagued by a sometimes amusing lousy sense of humor and disbelief at getting badly surrounded.... often amused.

Also a medic video would be good, don't look at the medic!! Haha. Hard role to play but by far the most game changing if done right I res 20 to 30 players a game now and it's awesome gameplay.

Put this in my game to buy and keep taking it back out. Few other FPS I have played I have got some very angry players cos I messed up. But this is very very interesting. Game the info you have gave is very use full but still can’t decided to get the game 😂

So far my biggest issue is figuring out which is the enemy and which is a teammate. Some factions look different enough to where it's not that hard to tell but others tend to look the same. Like I'll be playing in a match where both sides are wearing light tan military gear that looks identical. One might be slightly lighter in shade but by the time I figure out, they are already shooting me. I keep getting told to look at the map, which does help, but oftentimes in closer quarters fights, I the friendly icons are so close to what I'm aiming at and it ends up being an enemy. I get to afraid to shoot because I don't want to accidentally tk
What helped me with cammies are sticking with a good squad that can win fire fights or just get lucky doesn't have to be the one you're in. before the enemy bodies despawn go back and forth looking at bodies and your team uniforms even from a distance. U might notice color time differences or uniform contours. Canadians have confetti on their helms but similar time of green to Russian. Some might have same colors in different spots.
I concur. I have found it very difficult sometimes to tell who was the enemy and end up getting shot. I prefer to fight the insurgents as they do not wear standard uniforms so easier to recognise. The camo-covered helmets do help as mentioned. It is so much easier when they are further away and obviously not where your squad mates are. It will just take time and familiarity with playing the game. Love playing the game.
this was a mechanic in arma 2 i was a sniper for my squad in that game. i actually got so good at sniping my best shot was a headshot to a heli piloit at 1.5 klicks out moving about 200 mph. my squad changed my call sign to dead shot ill never forget this memory.

I was a big arma 3 player, i had squad for years but really didnt play it started few days ago its been soo fun even tho i cant get kills i spot em etc but its fun to use the coms etc and ofc that satisfying shot whit rpg when it hits and the enemy armor explodes just aaag and i met a lovley group to play whit
Just started yesterday and I’m having a lot of fun but damn is it frustrating… I feel like I’m running around like a chicken with his head cut off and get killed from seemingly nowhere and when I do find enemies I always miss them then they beam me from hundreds of feet away

I so want to be able to enjoy this game its just so realistic and the co op looks so fun to me but this game can also be pretty intimidating . I have quit mid game because I got nervous about not performing well and also having a little social anxiety. I really struggle with identifying the enemy and such and sometimes kill teammates also sometimes not killing enemies thinking they are friends :) But this video was helpful though i will keep at it and hopefully get better :D
Just stick with it! You're not alone. A lot of new players struggle with the same things. Best thing I found is playing on a welcoming server to newbies and let your squad know you're new to the game. Good luck!
it really does come with time and sometimes, it just can't be avoided. I've been playing hardcore games from Project Reality to only playing CoD and Battlefield on HardCore and i STILL sometimes end up blasting a teammate now and then. Recently, my most embarrassing TK was on Squad, as i am a 30hr player so far, i don't really know what the vehicles look like for each faction unless it's American. So we had a TOW set up on a hill, and started taking fire from an enemy LAV and multiple infantry from a direction. Well, after we lost two of our guys on the TOW, the firing died down some, and i crawled to the launcher hoping to find the LAV. Well, as soon as i hopped on it i saw a BTR sitting on the hill where we had just been taking lots of fire, my heart started pounding as i loaded a rocket, i shakily drew a bead on the guy and let rip. it was a SOLID perfect kill shot, i was like YES! and then all of a sudden my team comms was flooded with WHO THE F*****!! JUST SHOT OUR BTR! I owned up to it immediately, and surprisingly everyone was super chill, and someone even said relax it's a new player server. Just admit to your mistakes and people wil most likely have patience with you!
one thing, suppressing fire is your worst and best friend, it provides an invisible cover that you can use, you also need to know where you shooting at, because oh no i hit a friend and worst because it gives off your location.
Just recently picked up squad after paying attention to its development and gameplay for years. I will say i come a hardcore/tactical FPS Background with well over 7,000 hours in Arma 3 and over 1,800 in Escape From Tarkov, and around 100 hours in Hell Let Loose, And i have to say i have never been so frustrated with a Tactical FPS Game. Everytime i get into a round i am shot from what seems like an invisible force that i can never shoot back at. I already know about things like area suppression and how not knowing exactly where you’re being shot at from in the thick of it is ‘more realistic’ however, i jumped into this game not expecting 2 things. The first being the learning curve, and the second being the difficulty to play this game and feel any sort of satisfaction from killing off enemy forces and defending or capturing an objective. It is very frustrating and i’ve already Alt+F4d multiple times because it just gets old. I’ve already though about uninstalling and im only 10 hours in. In short, i’m trying to give this game a better chance but good lord is it ridiculously over complicated for new players and since i don’t have much time to play everyday it just feels like it’s not even worth it sometimes. Bullets travel at super sonic speed, so the bullet will get to you before the sound of the shooters gun does, basic physics knowledge like this helps a lot when playing milsim games.
For me it took 2 games before knowing where shots are coming and i can pinpoint where is the enemy, the problem is im terrible at aiming and most of my shots are missed. 😂😂😂

Yes, it's basically a way to cross-check audio. Especially when it comes to enemy vehicles where the engine noise can spread out - just look left to right until you find where the sound is loudest.
For me I’ll normally die if they’re camo is really good or their location. Sometimes I can see them and then try to allign sights but then get shot first.
I can spot people easily, I'm just struggling to tell if they're friend or foe. Especially Canada v Russia maps. They're hell for IFF since they both wear similar camo. Constantly checking the map to see if friendlies are in the area. Noticing friendlies are in the area, but the numbers don't match so I have to figure out the exact location of each friendly to know which dude to shoot at. Yesterday me and a couple of other dudes in the fireteam ran directly parallel to an enemy squad about 20m away from each other for a good minute before I realised they were enemies by checking the map a few times and I lit them up, got 4 kills while they stared at me like "wait I thought you were my team". Everyone saw them but nobody shot each other so we just assumed it was a friendly squad lol.
I wasn't really aware of the whole Report aspect of this. If I'm gathering this right, the Report is from the weapon itself, and the snap is the bullet impact, and you can only hear the Report if its greater than 50m and no less correct? You also mention that there's one sound to listen for and the other to ignore, the one you listen for is the Report? And does the snap come first, or the Report? There have been times I heard the snap first, then others the report first, it's been a bit tricky to figure out.
I think the examples showing the sounds of being shot at from X distance need to be redone. The guy shooting needs to take slower shots other wise the muzzle pop sounds' timing from the snap of the bullet gets lost. You may hear the pop just after the 2nd snap comes by and if there are other sound distractions (if you've played squad I'm sure you know there are many and often) it's hard to zero in on that; of course the enemy will not give such a benefit as letting you listen to the timing of his/her shots. Also having the habit of constantly map-checking your area and map knowledge play a huge part in this the latter of which comes in time obviously. Knowing where your team mates are around the map helps you narrow down where the enemies could be as well as looking at the current OBJ positions or markers on the map that might indicate the traffic of enemies. The big thing about squad is there's only 1 guy that likes playing running simulator more than Squad so often times the flow of the game is fairly easy to read all of this kind of builds around the idea of map awareness. For newbies its good to stress that point you have about knowing what your friendlies look like and your enemies before jumping in
Ive got about 150h in squad and i know thats not a ton buuut the change has been gradual from getting shout outta no where at the beginning to yesturdy killing 7-12 players a round often within a shot time frame weather a far or up close these past days ive been starting to take a shot at beeing squad lead and by positive revew and a hand full of wins id like to think i fair quite well. So to all you new players out there the beginning sucks youre honna be canon futter but do not worry youre not actually bad just in expierenced it'll come soon enough
I understand I'm new and there's a learning curve but I swear to God I can't ever find anybody even with support of surrounding team.. but it seems like I'm constantly in the view of them using thermals or something... Literally staying still for 5 minutes then they find me pop pop dead
Positioning is half of it i reckon, some matches where i have no lag and high FPS, and a good squad, its like.. I get like 30 kills and I die maybe once or twice, I locate almost all enemies 90% of the time because i see them before they see me

PLAY IN A HEADSET. Very important. You can tell where the shots came from much more easily (compared to speakers).

A Huge tip is to learn the different gunshot noises from different weapons so you can tell where the enemy is based on the gun audio

Use the map! Look on your map to see where your squad is and nearby blueberries are! If it’s moving and not one of them, it’s an ENEMY!

Honestly this helped me out so much, I have always been good at any FPS but just knowing where I was getting shot from was so difficult
About the audio, recognizing weapons sounds help to locate ennemies easier and know who’s dominating in a cqc fight you can’t see :)

Just stick with it! You're not alone. A lot of new players struggle with the same things. Best thing I found is playing on a welcoming server to newbies and let your squad know you're new to the game. Good luck!
it really does come with time and sometimes, it just can't be avoided. I've been playing hardcore games from Project Reality to only playing CoD and Battlefield on HardCore and i STILL sometimes end up blasting a teammate now and then. Recently, my most embarrassing TK was on Squad, as i am a 30hr player so far, i don't really know what the vehicles look like for each faction unless it's American. So we had a TOW set up on a hill, and started taking fire from an enemy LAV and multiple infantry from a direction. Well, after we lost two of our guys on the TOW, the firing died down some, and i crawled to the launcher hoping to find the LAV. Well, as soon as i hopped on it i saw a BTR sitting on the hill where we had just been taking lots of fire, my heart started pounding as i loaded a rocket, i shakily drew a bead on the guy and let rip. it was a SOLID perfect kill shot, i was like YES! and then all of a sudden my team comms was flooded with WHO THE F*****!! JUST SHOT OUR BTR! I owned up to it immediately, and surprisingly everyone was super chill, and someone even said relax it's a new player server. Just admit to your mistakes and people wil most likely have patience with you!

one thing, suppressing fire is your worst and best friend, it provides an invisible cover that you can use, you also need to know where you shooting at, because oh no i hit a friend and worst because it gives off your location.
Just recently picked up squad after paying attention to its development and gameplay for years. I will say i come a hardcore/tactical FPS Background with well over 7,000 hours in Arma 3 and over 1,800 in Escape From Tarkov, and around 100 hours in Hell Let Loose, And i have to say i have never been so frustrated with a Tactical FPS Game. Everytime i get into a round i am shot from what seems like an invisible force that i can never shoot back at. I already know about things like area suppression and how not knowing exactly where you’re being shot at from in the thick of it is ‘more realistic’ however, i jumped into this game not expecting 2 things. The first being the learning curve, and the second being the difficulty to play this game and feel any sort of satisfaction from killing off enemy forces and defending or capturing an objective. It is very frustrating and i’ve already Alt+F4d multiple times because it just gets old. I’ve already though about uninstalling and im only 10 hours in.
In short, i’m trying to give this game a better chance but good lord is it ridiculously over complicated for new players and since i don’t have much time to play everyday it just feels like it’s not even worth it sometimes. Thanks for the guide.

Bullets travel at super sonic speed, so the bullet will get to you before the sound of the shooters gun does, basic physics knowledge like this helps a lot when playing milsim games.

For me it took 2 games before knowing where shots are coming and i can pinpoint where is the enemy, the problem is im terrible at aiming and most of my shots are missed. 😂😂😂
Low DPI/sensitivity is your best friend for aiming in this game. People are so far away that you need to be able to make micro-adjustments.

Yes, it's basically a way to cross-check audio. Especially when it comes to enemy vehicles where the engine noise can spread out - just look left to right until you find where the sound is loudest.

For me I’ll normally die if they’re camo is really good or their location. Sometimes I can see them and then try to allign sights but then get shot first.
I can spot people easily, I'm just struggling to tell if they're friend or foe.
Especially Canada v Russia maps. They're hell for IFF since they both wear similar camo. Constantly checking the map to see if friendlies are in the area. Noticing friendlies are in the area, but the numbers don't match so I have to figure out the exact location of each friendly to know which dude to shoot at.
Yesterday me and a couple of other dudes in the fireteam ran directly parallel to an enemy squad about 20m away from each other for a good minute before I realised they were enemies by checking the map a few times and I lit them up, got 4 kills while they stared at me like "wait I thought you were my team". Everyone saw them but nobody shot each other so we just assumed it was a friendly squad lol.

I wasn't really aware of the whole Report aspect of this. If I'm gathering this right, the Report is from the weapon itself, and the snap is the bullet impact, and you can only hear the Report if its greater than 50m and no less correct? You also mention that there's one sound to listen for and the other to ignore, the one you listen for is the Report? And does the snap come first, or the Report? There have been times I heard the snap first, then others the report first, it's been a bit tricky to figure out.
I think the examples showing the sounds of being shot at from X distance need to be redone. The guy shooting needs to take slower shots other wise the muzzle pop sounds' timing from the snap of the bullet gets lost. You may hear the pop just after the 2nd snap comes by and if there are other sound distractions (if you've played squad I'm sure you know there are many and often) it's hard to zero in on that; of course the enemy will not give such a benefit as letting you listen to the timing of his/her shots. Also having the habit of constantly map-checking your area and map knowledge play a huge part in this the latter of which comes in time obviously. Knowing where your team mates are around the map helps you narrow down where the enemies could be as well as looking at the current OBJ positions or markers on the map that might indicate the traffic of enemies. The big thing about squad is there's only 1 guy that likes playing running simulator more than Squad so often times the flow of the game is fairly easy to read all of this kind of builds around the idea of map awareness. For newbies its good to stress that point you have about knowing what your friendlies look like and your enemies before jumping in

Ive got about 150h in squad and i know thats not a ton buuut the change has been gradual from getting shout outta no where at the beginning to yesturdy killing 7-12 players a round often within a shot time frame weather a far or up close these past days ive been starting to take a shot at beeing squad lead and by positive revew and a hand full of wins id like to think i fair quite well. So to all you new players out there the beginning sucks youre honna be canon futter but do not worry youre not actually bad just in expierenced it'll come soon enough
Even coming from years of playing Arma 3 KOTH I struggled to see who was shooting me in squad.
I understand I'm new and there's a learning curve but I swear to God I can't ever find anybody even with support of surrounding team.. but it seems like I'm constantly in the view of them using thermals or something... Literally staying still for 5 minutes then they find me pop pop dead
What is best for Headphones, Dolby Atmos, DTS:X or none of them for getting a sense of direction of icoming?
Positioning is half of it i reckon, some matches where i have no lag and high FPS, and a good squad, its like.. I get like 30 kills and I die maybe once or twice, I locate almost all enemies 90% of the time because i see them before they see me
