This is an incredibly thought-provoking talk! Especially the opening segments on representations of thought as scaffolding for intellectual paradigm shifts. Fascinating stuff.
Imagine being in a virtual environment where you could see the code and the program, snip edit and move parts of the code around and see how the program would run. Having a range of input options would really free us up. People who want to type could still type but people who want to move their whole bodies or use their voices could do that.
It occurs to me that the end result will be a true virtual world or perhaps an infinite number of virtual worlds. We will enter those worlds for various reasons and while we are in those worlds our mind's cognitive resources will be dedicated to those worlds. Interesting.
A lot of those concepts aren't so far out - except the idea that they could be instantiated in just a few seconds. The information density would be very large - would be great to see someone take the time to build such a "Shared conversation workshop" on a particular topic to support a collaborative discussion by, for example, Congress.
Criminally underviewed.
Probably cause it is reuploaded here, but still yes, would love more people to know about these ideas!

I love this talk so much. My favorite talk of all time
American Sign Language is a dynamic language that can greatly benefit students in learning scientific concepts that are more spatial than linear.
one of the best talks I have ever heard. simply superb!
i'm not used to the super casual Bret Victor look
No kidding. It's Bret Victor, Matthew McConaughey Version.
I can't resonate more with every word
this presentation almost brought me to tears. wonderful ideas, beautifully presented.

@@sambrown4761 you mean being alive? 🤓
The whole point of Bret's vision is that it is not virtual, it is real.
This is mega inspiring. Thanks so much!
How have I not seen this before
It’s not possible to package and sell it as an autistically optimized framework that has a vendor lock in
I disagree on one point. We learn not only by books today. TH-cam, used correctly is a great resource. Fantastic talk.
We can already start experimenting with some of these concepts today using VR & AR
Refreshing and revolutionary, keep on truckin'
Dominic Cummings sent me here...
You can actually hear Bret's hearthbeat.
This talk summarised - "the medium is the message".
Horizon Worlds seems to capture a lot of this concept
Reminds me of the problem solving depicted in Egan Greg's _Diaspora_.
It would take 'programmed matter' to develop as a species in this more humane way.
I was very motivated by this conference.

speaker made this : dynamicland.org/
This is where the startup "Humane" got their brand and ethos
7 years later his prophetic words at the end came true
prompt engineering is mostly authoring in this model
omg puddles is a cute name for a doggo
Looks like Bret would love to work in Iron man's lab
yesyesyes
but did you RIP this from vimeo and just post it here on TH-cam?

Danke liebes (www.derstandard.at) Standard-Forum für einen guten Link unter einem schlecht recherchierten Artikel.
Bret and others completely failed in Dynamicland project at YC. It sounded inspiring in 2013-2015, but in retrospect they didn’t have anything…
its a long term project (as in decades to centuries long)
The new update is massive and not a failure. The project is meant to last several decades
