Re getting involved on campus
If you are passionate about something and you don't see an organization, club, group for it... make your own! I don't know Vanderbilt, but I'm certain that they have an office of student activities (or involvement) and that there is a process, if you are able to form a group, to become an officially recognized student organization.
Some of the best learning experiences I had in college involved working to create a student organization. We had officially recognized organizations like "Cool Kids Coloring Club," just for one example.
And on-campus jobs are awesome. I liked all of mine so much that I decided to work in higher education. Now I work with managing student employees. :)
