Certain sororities which were established in the South still have the NO-Blacks policy at all of their chapters no matter where they are located. Other women of color may be admitted IF they're extremely pretty & their fathers are prominent & wealthy. Argument is that frats won't want to do exchanges/parties/events with a group of girls unless they're beautiful & weatlhy. Constantly being asked what your father does for a living is painful if he's dead. Yes I have been asked, "Well then what did he do when he was alive?" Rudeness prevails..

I live in an asian country and I dont understand fraternities and sororities. I'm just curious. It exists here but not as open like in the US

This video was sent to me by one of my Chinese students who attends Vanderbilt now. I had talked to her about joining a sorority after she arrived. Not much has changed since I was in college in the 80s. It was exactly the same way. My mom and my aunt and great aunt were all Chi Omega so I was considered a legacy at my school. But apparently I didn’t look or act rich enough or have the right kind of clothes, etc so I did not get a bid. Instead, I was accepted into Phi Mu and went on to become home coming attendant at my school. Phi Mu was a lovely group of girls, but in the end, I felt the same way you did and decided that Greek life just wasn’t for me, and I dropped it.

If you can withstand the pain that comes with living your life truthfully and being vulnerable then you can really do anything. The secret is "simply" knowing that no matter what happens you will be fine because you can rely on yourself. Unfortunately I'm far from being there myself as no matter how I look at it I can't honestly say that I trust myself to be vulnerable or that I'll be able to put myself back together if I get hurt again, it's tough. Anyways, just wandered in here from the other side if the world, have a great day ❤️
