Being from Ulster Protestant stock myself - I am always fascinated by the rich history & steadfastness of the plantation descendents.
The artists that do these murals also have real talent.
100%, the level of craftsmanship and preservation of heritage is amazing. Thanks for watching 👍.
I've been learning more about our heritage, we are the indigenous/native people of this land. The Gaels arrived/invaded Ireland (or little Britain as it was known), well after the original people of this land. The earliest known collective name for tribes/people living across the British Isles (including Ireland/little Britain), was Pretani (Picts). These Pretanic tribes were able to develop naturally throughout the British Isles , without any significant immigration from outside, for thousands of years, from the end of the ice age until approximately the time of the birth of Christ. The "plantation" was really just the return of the descendents of the original native people of this land. Your ancestors and mine. Ulaid is our kingdom (which gave rise to the term "Ulster")

Poor little orphans..... nobody wants ye lot... 😂
regardless of the subject, there are some outstanding paintings, really good artists. ive seen murals on both sides of the divide, and those painting them have some real talent.
Very true, a lot of skill and craftsmanship involved 👍
The Irish Republican murals seem more authentic as they were fighting the british military and their volunteers died in their hundreds in actual action against the crown forces.
A very stunted assessment. The republicans murdered more civilians than anyone , the scumbags. The police and army wore uniforms/ had marked cars, so they were easy to spot...republicans liked to creep up to isolated farms and shoot farmers (part time cops/ soliders) innl the back. They were authentically evil..also the murals were a loyalist thing originally, republicans ended up doing them after loyalists.
The murals are class, thanks.
Thanks for Watching 👍
Well done 👍
Cheers

Northern Ireland and its rich murals. A Look into their past and present
Great channel - just discovered it. Enjoy the videos even though I live in Belfast 😂 you should do a video of republican murals
Thanks for the comment mate. Yeah would consider doing the republican ones, just the way things are here felt a bit safer doing the loyalist ones with my background, but I'm sure it would be grand 👍
@@shadowmanstrolls811 unless you roll up in a Sevco top and union flag boxers, I think you'll be alright 😅
Came over to Belfast to do the Black Cab Tour and I never saw any of this only a small bit , wow need to return .
Just a quick question, is there any better tours that covers what is shown in your video or do you know anyone willing to show us if we came back to Belfast? Feel like we have been ripped off lol your video is awesome 😊
@carolekeane4382 that's something I'm looking at doing so if you are coming back, give me a heads up on here and I can look at schedules. Thanks for the kind comment 👍
That would be brilliant , Thank you
Really good job! Wish you’d make a video for rep murals too..🤞🏻cheers from Italy

Interesting that there seems to be no Irish counter-graffiti. One would think it’d be tempting to make the opposition to occupation visible by “attacking” these artworks (even if they are art).
Thanks for the comment. Often murals are attacked (that includes republican murals attacked by loyalists and loyalist murals attacked by republicans). Such attacks would carry an element of risk in case you were caught by locals; would also imagine it would probably break certain laws (breach of the peace, incitement etc) so there would be potential legal repercussions . Such attacks are thankfully much less than they used to be. Thanks for watching 👍
it does happen , its usually around the murals on northumberland st which crosses the devide .

That one was on the morning of the Queen's funeral mate 👍
