You missed the pun at 5:25. 'Loda balls' is a Belfast phrase used to be impolite to someone you disagree agree with, but in true Belfast style, if is now friendly banter. Still, it is nice to watch someone appreciate my hometown. Liked and subbed. I've been here for 35 years and sometimes I still find unexpected hidden gems.
I hate how we hate eachother in this city. And how we don't see how much of an _incredible_ town this place has become in spite of us. While you were all busy hanging your flegs and screaming at eachother, Belfast became one of THE best Food Destinations on the entire Island. Its a rich city, with a lot to offer, but we're making an absolute balls of it whenever we can.
We must admit we don't know every detail of the history and politics when it comes to Northern Ireland. I (Anja) have a Scottish friend who used to live in Belfast and she always told me about how things were there and what it was like to go to high school there and I couldn't properly grasp it to be honest. However, many people might disagree with us here, but we actually really enjoyed how Belfast felt like such a mix of Ireland and the UK. It felt really unique in that way. We actually like Belfast better than Dublin and also much better than most cities in the UK. When it comes to the food, you're right, it really has great food. Our next video will actually be a Belfast food tour 😊🤤
@@wherearewe-yt I'm actually from the greater Dublin Area, from a County below Dublin, and you're right. Belfast has more character, more culture, more flavour, and more fun than Dublin does. Belfast is a fusion between Irish, and Brittish (Specifically Scottish) cultures. But the history of colonialism, plantation, and violence still lingers deeply in the cities history. Many alive today remember, and were active participants in inciting The Troubles. That being said, the city is trying so hard to make something of itself outside of this history. Belfast is a fun town, full of fun people, with incredible character, and incredible food, and a rich GLOBAL history due to the docks, and the ships that were built and launched there. I'm not a Belfast native, but over the last 6 years I've made it my own, and I love it.
Belfast has huge potential and is still affordable, it's got a bright future ahead if people put aside their differences and work together. Having said that, it doesn't have a patch on Dublin as far as cultural offering and variety of things to see and do IMO, I actually was surprised how quiet it was compared to Dublin after 6pm! But then it's much smaller as well, which makes it more attractive in many respects, it depends what you're into.
Thanks! We did our best to show as much as we could. It's a great city, with lots to do. The rain made things a bit difficult, but I think we saw quite a bit!
@@wherearewe-yt Balls is slang here for like rubbish. So 'you're talking a loada balls' is 'you're talking a load of rubbish'. It is short for bollocks lol.
As a Northern Irish person I know my country is beautiful and has lovely people, but it has a bit of a negative reputation in Great Britain and further a field due to media. Glad you ignored that and came and enjoyed your visit!
We absolutely loved it there, and would love to go back and see more in the future! We have a food video coming up next from Belfast, so stay tuned - and let us know how we did. We tried to find items that are popular in all of Ireland, but also a few that are specific to the North.
I was brought up being told acid was needed. Then my sister told me about a TH-cam video where Jamie Oliver makes soda bread without buttermilk. It turns out that baking temperatures break down sodium bicarbonate to CO2 anyway.

In July we'll be in Poland, actually. However, we'll certainly be back in Northern Ireland at some point because we still want to see more of it 😊. And in September we'll also be in Scotland to explore a bit of where Brandon's ancestors came from ☺️.

@@fitz303 Thanks! Lets hope so! We have a bit more content coming from North America and Europe, but it'll likely take until we head to Asia to really take off. It's been our experience, and that of fellow TH-camr friends, that Europe is much better for quality subs (more interaction, better watch time, better payment for videos) while Asia is better for numbers. The Guinness was so good. Sounds familiar! When I moved away from Canada, we didn't go back to visit for seven years as well. Prices of everything have skyrocketed. Which is exactly why we're headed back to South East Asia, very soon!
Sorry but that's absolute bullshit. In this day and age and with use of the Internet would correct your mistake. I'm not politically or diveded but this is piss poor. @@jpfarrell66 Pretty sad that you choose to focus on the negative, rather than the 30 minutes of two people enjoying your country, praising it, and showing the beauty of the city. It says more about you, to be honest. As we said, you can't make everyone happy. If there was only the UK flag, people would be pissed. If there was only the Irish, someone would be pissed. If we put the Ulster flag, someone would be pissed. This is TH-cam. Someone will ALWAYS find something to get mad about. Thanks for watching, either way!

It's a great city! We'd love to see more of Ireland in the future. The people were great - as was the food. Our Irish food video comes out in two days, and literally everything we had was so good.
Yeah, we didn't think so! Didn't look like any of the boxty photos we had seen online. We were quite confused when they brought it out. Hahaha. It wasn't bad by any means, but it was definitely the worst meal of the trip. To be fair, it had a lot to live up to. Most of the other places we visited were quite good!
It may have been traditionally made with mutton way back when, but it appears that most restaurants now serve it with lamb. It's still an Irish Stew. What else would you call it?
@@wherearewe-yt Irish stew was a poor mans food, mutton was used because it was cheap as it takes a very long time to cook, seasoning came in the form of Dulse (seaweed).Lamb is used nowadays because it cooks quickly and is not so expensive anymore. The long cooking time of the mutton and vegetables broke the vegetables down to almost a paste which is a real Irish stew unlike the one you had which had full potatoes and large chunky vegetables. Traditional lamb stew is made with dumplings not potatoes. Great video, glad you enjoyed your visit to the Wee Norn given the negative press the country usually gets.
@@davidmcclenaghan6603No, Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom (of Great Britain & Northern Ireland). Great Britain is an island comprising England, Wales and Scotland, three of the four constituent parts of the United Kingdom
In the nicest possible way, you would not be an American visitor if you didn't spend most of your time stuffing your face with food!! Why not - because food is different from one country to another, and one region to another. An Ulter (breakfast) Fry is quite different to an English one - e.g. there are no beans with an Ulster Fry, and apart from sausage, bacon and eggs, everything else is bread in half-a-dozen different forms - potato farls, Wheaten, Soda, Treacle. The breakfast is known locally as a "heart attack on a plate!". I found your tour of the Titanic Experience quite sad; you seemed a tad disappointed that it wasn't quite Disneyland, and thereby hangs the problem. My perception of Americans is not far off from the reality, since the majority of Americans equate everything in life with films, movies, cartoons and Disneyland. The Titanic Experience is essentially a story of tragedy, so why would anyone want to make it a Disney-type experience. On that score at least, Americans do need to mature-up considerably. Belfast has now become a major tourist attraction, rated in the top ten of places to vist; currently there are some 150 cruise ships coming in every year .....including the Disney ship!! (Oh dear, please preserve us from this kind of childish extreme)! Anyway, you seem to have enjoyed your visit, but such a pity that you didn't get to see the beautiful Glens of Antrim, Dunluce, Carrick-a-rede, Giant's Causeway, Ulster Folk and Transport Museum, and so many other fascinating places. A day trip is really not much use to anyone to be honest. It's a bit like the mass of tourists going to England and never straying outside London city centre.
Neither of us Americans, actually. I'm Canadian, and Anja is German. Our channel is a travel channel that primarily focuses on food because that is always what does best. We see the numbers, so we know where the highs and lows of every video is. As you can see from the numbers, our Belfast food tour video has well over double the views that this one does! Haha. The museum was mostly disappointing because it was WAY too packed. They oversold tickets for sure. There were times where you could barely even move through the crowd. Even if you wanted to enjoy the museum in the same way you'd enjoy a typical museum, by strolling around leisurely and reading, you couldn't. There was a lot more we wanted to do, but this was a seriously budgeted trip. Next time!
@@wherearewe-yt Thank you for responding - I like it when uploaders respond to their viewers. Yes, Irecognised the Cadian accent - my siste emigrated from Belfast to Canada way back in the 60's, but as I have mentioned to her many times - she's now bloomin' American! Canada - in my view - is just another American State, for your schooling is American, your cars are American, your way of life is American, including your money by a different name. Your shop pricings are based on the USA (tax separate), your culture and your houses. You also drive on the right, so there's very little of the Britishness that founded the country. But the one thing I deplore about the American culture, is the way people eat; they can't use a knife and fork properly, and seem to prefer using a spoon or their fingers for everything. So, sorry to say, Canucks are just Americans by another name - it's difficult to spot the difference! This is a nice, articulate and adventurous couple. I am so happy you enjoyed my home town. I am a retired police officer and know it so well.
P.S I see you experienced good old fashioned Northern Irish weather as well. You got the full experience indeed.
P.P.S Visit Carrickfergus Castle or Belfast Castle. Both north of the City. Or if you really want to see some history. Try Enniskillen Fermanagh. It has beautiful natural history like mountain walks and cave and old historical Stately Homes to visit.
Salutations from Belfast Northern Ireland 🇬🇧
We have an absolute blast! We loved it. We'd love to come back some day. Though next time, we would like to explore a bit more of the North, and the coast. We've heard great things.
Thanks for all the great suggestions, for next time!
Yeah, we had no idea until a view let us know! Hahaha.
Craven free stater!
I'm from the North. Lived in Belfast and it is absolutely shit.
Small thing to mention the building that the titanic museum is located in is built to scale of the actual titanic
Wow, really? That place was freaking massive. I can't even imagine what it'd have been like to see the real thing in person.
Great tour..
Thanks! We did our best to show as much as we could. It's a great city, with lots to do. The rain made things a bit difficult, but I think we saw quite a bit!
Thats we stall loada balls is a popular saying in belfast lol was funny to see as iam from here never heard of that we stall lol 😂👍
Really?? Hahaha. What's it mean?
Please how is the weather like in February, Mars?? Is it sunny??
Not made with traditional yeast. The rising is from a reaction between acid (normally from buttermilk) and soda, which gives it its name.
We're obsessed. It was hard editing this video because it made us hungry for it all over again!
I was brought up being told acid was needed. Then my sister told me about a TH-cam video where Jamie Oliver makes soda bread without buttermilk. It turns out that baking temperatures break down sodium bicarbonate to CO2 anyway.
Great video, guys! The Titanic Museum looks fun, but oof...so expensive. 😅
You guys are going to have a blast when you finally get to exploring Europe and the UK. Expect for the whole cost thing. 😂
We are counting down the days until we head back to Asia! You could survive for at least two days in Thailand for the cost of those Titanic museum tickets. 🫠
Thanks for watching!
In July we'll be in Poland, actually. However, we'll certainly be back in Northern Ireland at some point because we still want to see more of it 😊. And in September we'll also be in Scotland to explore a bit of where Brandon's ancestors came from ☺️.
HMS Caroline is a lot more interesting - it's just down the road.
blinkers is great ! I am Northern Irish but not from Belfast I am from the North coast of Northern Ireland
We loved it as well!
We need to revisit some time and explore more of the coast. We wanted to do that this time, but only has so much time.
You two deserve more Subs, very natural on camera.
Thanks for saying that! It's certainly a grind - but we do have a few locations planned in the future that should hopefully help grow the channel a bit more. Fingers crossed! 😅🤞
@@wherearewe-yt appreciate the reply, I was a TV Producer/Director/Editor for 2 decades and understand the effort that goes into a 10 minute feature... And it's clear you guys put the research in, and implementing it into the filming so well. Good luck growing the channel, it'll blow up soon I'm sure 😊
The Western audience is a lot tougher to impress, but we're tryin'! Haha.
@@wherearewe-yt Haha I would well believe that, but what they also appreciate is good content that has a unique slant whilst not trying too hard and that's a hard but to crack but your work is succinct and fun and digestible so all heading in the right direction... Enjoy Asia it's amazing and beautiful 😍
Cheers 👍👍. Shared on X
Thanks for watching and sharing! Appreciated.🍻
Thumbs up for the Bushmills, thumbs down for the ice. Otherwise enjoy.
Don't worry, it was gone so fast that the ice didn't have time to melt and water it down! 😆
@@wherearewe-yt Belfast craik: "Would you like some water in your whiskey sir?" "No thanks, there's enough in it already!"
Them. Ones over there are nat the same as us .
Who?
are you coming to Dublin?
We are out of Ireland now, so no current plans. We've been before, but would love to revisit and film a video there at some point. We want to see more of Ireland in general!
Belfast >>>>>Dublin
0:20 that's Badgers in Derry 😂
They actually had the image of the Derry Girls at the airport when we got off the plane. That's where we filmed it 😊. We'd love to go to Derry at some point, though. Unfortunately, we didn't make it this time.
@@wherearewe-yt fair play, Belfast trying to steal our glory! Derry Is small but it's the perfect place to explore Donegal... That's the real hidden gem of Ireland
@conallmclaughlin4545 We'd love to go! We hope to make it back to Ireland soon, as there's much more we need to see.
You mean Londonderry 🇬🇧
Out of every where to go for breakfast they go to blinkers 🤣🤣🤣🤣
And it was delicious! And cheap!
Come to Bristol!
We were there very briefly at one point, but only for a few hours. We'd like to go back at some point, and properly explore (and film)!
@@wherearewe-yt Please do! I can recommend some great places
I can't believe you went to Kelly's Cellars and didn't just drink Guinness. I'm counting down the days until I can get back from China next summer to have a rake of them. Belfast hasn't changed much in the seven years I've been away. Looks like the prices have though... Not looking forward to that.
The Guinness was so good.
Sounds familiar! When I moved away from Canada, we didn't go back to visit for seven years as well. Prices of everything have skyrocketed. Which is exactly why we're headed back to South East Asia, very soon!
Rookie mistake Tri colour not the Flag of NI.
There are both flags on the thumbnail. People aren't happy no matter which flag is on the thumbnail. So we put both 🤷
Sorry but that's absolute bullshit. In this day and age and with use of the Internet would correct your mistake. I'm not politically or diveded but this is piss poor. Like so many only believe the tricolour covers us all it does not. Again to give you more context I embrass my Irish background but Belfast is in Northern Ireland and will always be in Northern Ireland
@@jpfarrell66 Belfast will remain in the north of Ireland until such time as the people of the island decide that unification will suit their future better. Might not happen in either of our lifetimes, but it will eventually. Let's face it. If England could find a way to get rid of the headache, they'd do it in a heartbeat.
@@jpfarrell66 who pissed you off that day 🤣
Have you guys visited Wales yet?
We have one Cardiff video on our channel, but it's pretty shit! It was one of the first videos we ever made, when we were practicing making videos. We didn't even know if it would ever see the light of day. 😂
The Irish tricolor has no official designation over Northern Ireland. Its the flag of the country of Ireland. Northern Ireland is part of the UK. This is akin to having a mexiacan flag with the American flag while visiting Kanasas 😂 #factsmatted
I'm sure you're very well aware that we obviously got people compliain on both sides. So that was the only way to try and make both sides happy. Thanks for watching!
That isn't boxty. You are right not sure what they are doing there.
Potato cake and boxty are different. Boxty uses raw potato which is then cooked and potato cake starts with cooked potato.
Haha, I am glad someone is finally mentioning the Boxty! The photos online look so different so we were so confused. I (Anja) was looking forward to this dish so much and we specifically tried to find a restaurant for it. I feel like we need a redo! 😂 It's fine, though. I wanna come back to eat more sodabread anyway 😊😆
Holohan's Pantry is the place to go for a proper boxty! Beside Queen's university - for next time 👍
@@wherearewe-yt strange because the boxty i had in mchughs was deffinately a pancake
Great video just before I go to Belfast on Thursday. Very informative!
I still cant get over the "double fisting" phrase. I say dual wielding haha
Hahaha. I suppose it may seem "sexual" to some. 😂
Never heard of anyone saying double wielding!

We have recently had a fry-up again in Scotland. This means we have now had one in each part of the UK. Northern Ireland is still #1.
Ahhh I love Belfast, we want it back by the way, the islands people need to be one again
It's a great city! We'd love to see more of Ireland in the future. The people were great - as was the food. Our Irish food video comes out in two days, and literally everything we had was so good.
“Want it back”??? I think that’s up to the people of Belfast
Yes ,it’s not!!!!
We don't know what you're referring to unless you specify. I'm assuming you mean the boxty?
Definitely isn’t Boxty. It’s a golden fried potato pancake. The thirsty goat isn’t great tbh.
No need to pronounce the W in Smithwicks mate :)
Gotcha! Haha.
Pronounced Smiddicks.
Irish stew has mutton not lamb
Not boxty
Yeah, that's what we thought! We were pretty confused when we got it.
you may want to avoid putting the union jack on a video about NI next time mate
We added the Irish flag, too. Is that better or should we just remove the flags altogether? 😅🙃
The union jack is the flag of great Britain n I.is part of g.b.
Having aid that, I like your presentations, despite the American idioms!
