    Raised in Ballygally, went to Cairncastle Primary School . If you ever get the chance, there's a great wee drive where you hit the Cairncastle Rd at the hotel. Take a left. Leads you up into the village of Cairncastle, follow the signs for Feystown. Takes you up the side of that hill ( some view from the top ) and then down the back road into Glenarm. Doesn't take that much longer than if you went the Coast Rd to Glenarm.

You're selling it to me Shadowman....love the people, the vibe, the craic, the culture and of course the black stuff! Yeah it's a fair point. I do try and make sure I'm aware of surroundings, for example upper falls, nobody on footpath visible as far as eye can see- got out of way of bus lane/ road, so there's literally zero issue there. If I'm on a path and someone is approaching I'll slow down to a stop if needs be. I take the point about safety though 👍

    I love all your videos, but I keep coming back to this one. There's something special to me about Ballymena. I don't know why, but I'm drawn there more than any other town in Ulster. I think Ballymena's size and conservative reputation make it especially relatable to me as someone in a town of 30k in the American South/Bible Belt.

    Going to be a weird question, but as a Canadian, the one thing I appreciate about my place/house is having a backyard (some grass, tree or two). You think the lack of a lot of these houses having their own sort of green space and being so compact together really affects people negatively? It’s like you can’t get any space to yourself. Just an observation, not a critique. Appreciate the videos.

    • @shadowmanNI
      @shadowmanNI 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi, thanks for the kind comment. You raise a fair question, you would think that such close living in such numbers in urban areas may have a negative impact on humans, not something we were "designed " to do? I think, without getting too political, there are less "issues" in more homogenous societies which tend to be higher trust societies. For years many inner city areas were relatively safe, leaving doors unlocked etc. I definitely see the value in open space and more rural living, though car essential

      @@shadowmanNIas an American watching, that's the ultimate tradeoff I see Europe making versus North America and Australia. Your cities are much more walkable, at the cost of road infrastructure and green space. Even small towns are constructed like Manhattan or Toronto in terms of density. It looks a bit claustrophobic, but I can't even imagine how convenient life must be to be that close to things. A different way of life for sure.

So much history in this area and like the Shankill unfortunately much of the local character has been stripped away, especially in the lower Falls, although I don't think anyone living there now would cry too much about the loss of the infamous and badly planned and shabbily constructed Divis flats.

Weird, as I was up black mountain this afternoon and the hands were grand. Sorry to be a killjoy at Christmas but I found this trip to be very depressing.The standard of shops and the state of the buildings show what a challenge would lie ahead in a different Ireland. Loyalty is one thing, but from seeing what the people have to live with here it seems that its all blind loyalty.London can spend billions on its new arrivals in Kent, but gives the Shankill people nothing. Dublin of course is no different, with its fortunes spent on IPAS centres,again for people who turned up five minutes ago.Where the planning here? Where is the much needed redevelopment so people have homes to be proud of.All I can see is the next place London will drop off migrants to.Out of sight and out of mind.Those "politicians" at Stormont are totally useless,nothing more than grifter's looking for easy money,I bet none of them live in a place like this.Meanwhile the memo from the working class of Britain has not crossed the Irish sea.The huge mural to King Charles is not something the British working class would buy into.After his atrocious speech where he blamed the people for being angry about Southport.Here is a man who is nothing more than a WEF/Davos/Starmer collaborator.Hopefully that memo will get to the Shankill.By the way why do people in Belfast buy into to a conflict thousands of miles away.If its not Israel flags its Palestine flags.Neither side are your friends in the long run.Israel would only be too happy to dump the Gazans into the rest of Europe.Another two million people we do not need.And as for the Gazans do you ever think they would be grateful or assimilate.

      Do agree with the gist of your post- his Christmas speech was an absolute disgrace, I'm a unionist, but I can't stand the man. Nothing more than a puppet. Sadly similar situation in the Republic, perhaps arguably worse given the pace of change there. Troubling times ahead 👍

      @@shadowmanNI My friend,what enrages me is how the Unionist people have been utterly screwed over,and this is from a Nationalist point of view,Not the fake nationlism of a group called Sinn Fein who are nothing than marxist loons.In that regard they are nothing more than than the SNP or Labour.Likewise I totally despise every political party in the 26 counties.All totally committed to the EU and were happy to see Britain taking pain from Brussels.I want an Ireland where we make the decisions, and our taxes are spent on the people of this Island.At this moment in time how could even have the front to ask the Unionist community, to join a state where the idiots that run it are importing the third world.Meanwhile the utter treachery of Labour and the Conservatives has turned Britain into a third world dumping ground.Take my word for it London is looking at dumping more and more of the third world into Belfast.The BBC,those paragons of viture,are openly boasting about why Dungannon is great now its more diverse.Sorry no town on this island wants the diversity that is coming.New Orleans and Magdeburg are a testament to what this madness brings.I hate to see a place like the Shankill now looking like a potential third world dumping ground.The area needs money, total redevelopement and jobs.What worries me even more is the low Protestant birth rate .If the population is not replacing itself then the powers that be will import a new diverse population.Look how that has worked in Rotherham,Leeds,Bradford and Slough.Finally, I do not know if have heard of Gavin Ashenden,he was once an advisor to Queen Elizabeth.He called the speech that Charles gave an open declaration of war on the working class.Charles has chosen a side and its not the one he should be on.There are dark times ahead.

      Bang on sonny, i'm an Englishman, cannot stand Charles and he is as you say a WEF/Globalist stooge, and most working class i feel would agree with us. Some might say a traitor. I love the Loyalist people, but i also feel an affinity with the ordinary Irish people, who in my experience are salt of the Earth, i should know i'm shacked up with an Kilkenny lass, and my Moms sister married a Wexford man. I feel we have more in common that separates us, and there is major problems with our elites that i feel the British and Irish Iles folk should come together.come together

      The thing with NI is that for the last 20 or so years both RC and protestant birth rates have been similar, less than replaceable levels. We've even had Catholic schools having to close/amalgamate in the last 15 years or so, which would have been unthinkable in 70s/80s. Of course the RC CHURCH has courted some of the immigration to bolster their pews/school intake, however they are just the mirror reflection of Charles, whoring themselves for power and self interest. Appreciate your input pal 👍

      @@shadowmanNI 👍Keep up the good work mate, i hope to come to Belfast next year to see how it's come on, and of course i'll do a tour of the neighbourhoods. Last time i went was Feb 87 to watch England v NI at Windsor. Quite an enlightening and moody 2 days. Seen a lot of these walking/taxi tours over the last few years, but what you've done here is quite unique. I've subbed.
