as a year 10 i'm so scared of how good/easy everyone's finding the exams this year😭 if everyone does as well as they feel, the grade boundaries are gonna be so high for my year😖😖 but good luck on results day!!!!!!!
Don’t worry! The grade boundaries of this year are totally irrelevant to what they will be for your year, it all depends on how the year 11s do in 2025! Like a 9 is the top 10% in the country each year. So if everyone does really well on history for example, then I might need 80 out of 84 for a 9. But if everyone does badly, a 9 could be 60/84 or even less. I promise they’re determined by the performance of your year only. The only thing that would use our grade boundaries is probably your mock exams bc you’ll most likely do our old papers.
as a current year 9, I’ve been watching your content for a while now and it lowkey has put my mind at a bit of ease abt GCSEs and the idea of them. teachers are already banging on abt them to us regularly and I haven’t even started doing some of my gcse option subjects yet😭 but thank you for documenting your experience with them on here🙏 also quick question, are gcses really as hard and stressful as everyone says they are?
It means so much to me that I've been able to provide an honest perspective of it all. To answer your question would be a generalisation, because it 100% depends on the person. They're okay for me and the my friends because we all have put in the work over the years as well as begun revision early. We also all have an ambition which tends to drive someone's determination to get good grades. The important thing to remember is that these are a stepping stone. So, whilst looking for a job at 21, they won't ask about your GCSE's but they might ask if you have a degree. To have a degree you would've had to do a-levels to get into uni, and to do a-levels you would've had to get good gcse grades. So the exams are important in that respect, but in truth, year 9 is certainly not the time for them to even be on your mind. Forget about them for now and try to just take everything day by day, enjoy it!
Yayy, honestly it’s so fun and everybody’s so supportive. I would say watch your favourite TH-camr’s videos in the kind of style you want to film and take inspo for your first couple of videos. You’ll develop your own editing and vlogging style the more you do it. Just film whenever and whatever you want, have fun with it and I’m sure ppl will love it. If you have any questions in terms of the technical stuff like editing software, music and cinematography let me know:)
hey just wanted a lil help. umm how are u revising for english lang ? like how do u revise to get a 9 basically. I really want a 8 but idk how to revsie for lang
the annoying thing about lang is that there's a method to the answers whereas with lit you had more freedom because it was essays. I'd start by reading the specification properly so you know what they're looking for and what will get you the most marks. you can also find model answers online or if your teacher has any you could email them. then all that's left is to keep practicing. doing practice papers will help you familiarise yourself with the question styles and improve your analytical skills so that you can form your own opinions on the text.
do you know anything about international students, I was thinking about doing uni there and I'm from America.. I know you aren't in that position but if you have any tips id love to hear them!
I think you'd love it! I've never had an american student at my school but the uk is a pretty welcoming place, especially at the top Rusell Group universities which are full of people from all over the world who travelled to study there. I feel like travelling for uni in general is a really good life experience regardless. If you have any specific questions about life here let me know:)
Lots of people travel to study at uni in England so you wouldn't be the only non-British person, I'm about to do my second year at college (year before uni) so if you have any questions lmk!
