I'm sure it's a memory you will carry with you for a lifetime. Scarring though it may be. Those memories are sometimes some of the best years after the fact. The two of you are on a true-life adventure. May the good memories outweigh the not so good.
My girlfriend almost died there in 09. There was horrible storms the few days prior and the local guides warned us against it. It was class 4 rapids atleast, my girlfriend ended up being thrown off in some really bad rapid an got swept down stream pretty far. Thankfully she latched onto a rock in the middle of the river an the rescue from shore began. It took us over an hour to get her the rope, which one of the guides had to jump in up stream an guide the rope to her to even get it to her then we all had to pull her in. She was cut an bruised up an threw up multiple times from all the water she swallowed. But other than that we had an absolutely amazing time there. She's Colombian from outside Bogota in the mountains and her family took me on a 3 month trip all over the country. I plan on moving there actually for atleast a couple years just to experience it again!
There's also a cave I'm trying to find on TH-cam we went to that you Zipline into, then explore for like a mile then you end up jumping off a rock into a river to get out. That was one of the coolest experiences ever

Nothing bad in there , its just a casual swim in a class 3 rapid , the guides was here and looking after you. Maybe a scary experience when its your first time but nothing like a near death experience here...
In an odd way that encouraging. But we're going to think twice about rafting the next time it's an option. Rushing water is terrifying. But, as I can see, that's your thing. How many times have you fallen out of a raft or boat?
@@lifetheorycouple Kayaking since 20y now and rafting about 7 years , of course i fall of my raft a few times , and swim pretty big rapid too , its how you learn the sport. Its pretty scary at first , but after a few swim you learn to avoid bad places and protect yourself ( from the bottom of the river ) by staying as flat as you can. I hope you are going to try rafting somewhere else because its a great way to see places that nobody else can see , and you will learn more about the river and how to protect yourself from hit. In the Kayaking world we say : " we all lives between swims"

Swimming in any rapids is incredibly dangerous because there are big rocks under the water that help to create the rapids that can break bones or knock you out as well as dangerous currents. What are you smoking? It doesn't seem bad to you because you are experienced and know how to safely swim in class 3 rapids. Have you forgotten that most people do not? Why is it that so many people are incapable of seeing how things are different for other people than themselves?
Holy crap that looked scary! Much like you, I kept saying "Donde esta mi esposa?" Unbelievable that they wanted you to finish the course in the small boat! What level did they say the rapids were at? My partner and I were considering doing this in July with two kids (14 and 16) but having second thoughts now. Thanks for posting this and I'm glad you're both OK.
I think you should definitely try it with your family. I, (Widny) did this with my family when I was a teenager and I had a blast. It’s one of my favorite memories! I’ll recommend y’all make sure you get the big boat and ask if they will bring additional crew in case you need to be rescued. When we did the small boat, a couple of things went “wrong.” The company we chose did not have additional crew members for a rescue, and it had rained the night before, which made the rapids be at a level 3-4 that day.
We are too! 😅 - Yeah, I think we're going to start being more cautious around water activities. We even get a little frightful when turning the water in the shower.
Colombia is raining every single day, the rivers grow up easy and fast, but the extreme sports introduced en Colombia Europeans and Americans. Putumayo amazon and Orinoco, we have more rivers Biggers and rapis
It was Rio Pance. Typically the rapids are level 1 and 2, but because it had rained the night before, the rapids were more like level 3. The experience was fine after we moved to the big boat, but being in the tiny boat with just one guide was the scariest past of the whole situation.
Uy que vaina, a mi me paso también un susto pero este está mas berraco jeje, a mi me apretaron mucho el salvavidas y al caer y tratar de nadar al bote no podía respirar bien por el salvavidas aprentandome el pecho, pero se dieron cuenta de eso que no avanzaba por no respirar bien e hicieron lo posible por frenar el bote hasta que llegué. Un abrazo!!
