    I am just so "over" spending so much money on skincare, especially since watching this channel. I apply The Ordinary's niacinamide twice a day and my skin has never looked better. I honestly don't want to increase the potency of the active ingredients I am using because I am very happy with my current skincare products. Thanks for this informative video, Dr. Dray!

      Patti 1962 - I also use The Ordinary 10% Niacinamide I recently purchased this bc I understand there is a synergistic relationship it has w retinol. It’s only been 2 weeks. I combine it with my LED facial mask (I know Dr Dray doesn’t think a lot of this); but let me tell you....I see REAL results. I also use prescription retinol (cream formulation, the gel is too irritating even for my oily skin). I manage the prescription retinol on how my skin reacts to it. I can tolerate it every day in the summer months, but have to scale back during winter. If I experience burning sensation when I apply toner, I skip the retinol. My age spots were fading just after 1 week of the niacin...B3 combined w the LED facial mask. Now, I’m on week 3, and my results are AMAZING! I DEFINITELY recommend both products. PS. Has anyone ever heard of infrared sauna? I want to try this. We can treat our entire body. There are 4 spas in my town that offer this. Comments please.

      Mladen Enchev I’m pretty sure she does. If you take a look at Wayne Goss’s channel he also does a review. I have combination skin myself, probably mostly oily, however, I over used retin-a (not for the first time) and the skin around my chin, corners of the mouth and around the nose dried right out and peeled off leaving big red patches. The Niacinamide helped remove the flaky skin and clear up the redness. I’d say within 3/4 days. Skins never looked or felt so good.

      I‘m from Europe - I order it online. Have you tried checking on their website?
      I use it as per their recommendation. Twice a day, on clean, dry skin. I use Hyaloronic Acid + B5 first (2-3 drops), then Niacinemide + Zink (2-3 drops), massaging both into the skin. I follow this with sunscreen in the morning and a heavier moisturizer (like Cerave) in the evening.
      I use Tretinoin afterward, in the evening, as soon as the moisturizer has sunk in and the skin feels dry.
      Afaik, Niacinemide and Tretinoin can be used together just fine.
      I plan, to also try their SA serum in the morning in the future (SA and Tretinoin shouldn’t be used together), to further help with cleaning out my pores, but it was sold out, when I placed my first order. I tried SA wash gels in the past, but they bother my eyes - and I never knew, there were other active ingredients, that can help with large ‚gunky‘ pores. I‘m not big on make up, so you can imagine my joy!
      They generally recommend, not using more than 3 serums at the same time. There is also quite a bit of information available on their website...but it sure can be a little overwhelming at first!

      @@robynm7221 - def take a look at Dr Dray videos on how to use Differin and tretinoin, or her skincare routines. She double cleanses, then applies a hyaluronic acid gel under a rich cream, waits for it to dry then applies a pea sized amount of the tretinoin. I follow the same routine, but mix a couple of drops of Niacinamide in to a hyaluronic acid lotion under a cream. Well worth checking out her videos on retin a usage 👍🏻

    I am using this 20% niacinamide and I am in my late forties. This is the best skin care product I have ever used and I worked in the beauty industry many many years. I cannot believe how well this worked. I was desperate as my skin changed due to menopause. I will never not use this! My pores are smaller, less congested and hyperpigmentation is much less. To me, this is my holy grail product. I saw my esthetician today and she saw the difference. Only been using this a month or so. I have very fair Irish skin and am prone to redness. Though it didn’t make the red totally disappear, there are days it is very calmed down.

I do however use Paula's choice calm mineral moisturizer spa 30 oily/combo skin over it, and wow! This moisturizer once it ( dried) my skin looked flawless, poreless, and with a very non drying matte finish. I use Musely and Curology both with 5% Nicinamide and I hesitated buying Paula's choice, but I am glad I did. This 20% works so well, and I highly recommend it, even if you try it once. I do use it at night when I am not using my other tretinoin or Hydroquinone products, I will apply the Paula's choice 20% Niacinamide all over my face let it dry then very lightly press all over my face some Aveeno " Cracked skin Relief cica balm, it will be super tacky but your skin will absorb it, or my most favorite product when not using anything else, it's amazing beyond what I can write.... wash your face before bed, and apply some CERA VE SALOTION FOR ROUGH AND BUMPY SKIN, omg!!!! just this on your face and when you wake up your skin will be sooooo soft, smooth, clear, young looking, fresh... apply spa during the day. I promise you will love it. Lots of info, but from my own experience. The lotion doesn’t burn, it burns if I reapply it too often because of too many applications of niacinamide. Same thing with salicylic acid. I use her strongest retinol product for 3 yrs but going to try and train myself slowly to use Differin instead. Dr Dray’s recent retinol class has me thinking differently about retinol products that i can do better with my budget.
      I am super guarded with this type of marketing and it makes me not trust a brand. With rosacea I’m super limited plus I lean minimalist in most areas of life. Her products are all over the place, confusing, and too expensive for my needs.

But you have to start slow before you want to use the 20% as it can cause some allergic reaction in term of minor red bumps in certain people. The idea is to start with 5% or 10% for at least 6 months for the skin to adapt to the active then you can gradually use the 20%. Hope this help.

    I’m using the Ordinary Niacinimide and like it. I don’t notice a reduction in melasma, but it has a brightening effect. I recently started Curology, and my serum with tretinoin also has 4% Niacinimide. I was curious about the PC 20% and was glad to see your video pop up. Thanks for the review!

    I've tried niacinamide& ceramide toner from Paula's Choice, The Ordinary niacinamide, and Cosrx galactomysis with 5% niacinamide. Have trouble deciding which one to buy next, but the Cosrx one lasted me 6 months of daily use and didn't sting. Totally recommend it to anyone who thinks niacinamide stings!

    A lot of people like to compare how EXPENSIVE Paula’s choice is to The ordinary
    But it’s worth noting that the formulas are drastically different and you get what you pay for. For ex.
    Paula’s 10% niacinamide is loaded with antioxidants, brightening and soothing extracts and skin replenishing ingredients whereas
    The ordinary formula is JUST 10% niacinamide and zinc with some stabilizer and preservative ingredients
    Edit: It’s not to say ones better than the other but what your needs, wants and budgets are!

    • @julia______
      @julia______ 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      This is a fair, but The Ordinary can be really good for people with very acne prone skin. I prefer The Ordinary because I can choose the active ingredients I want to use without worrying that another ingredient in the formula is going to break me out.

      Not true. Sounds like a shill for the brand. As Freckle said, “Sometimes, things that are expensive are worse.” That’s literally what Dr. Dray says all the time.
      The most expensive skincare products are usually the worst: “Dr.” Barbara Sturm, La Mer, La Prairie...most are just petrolatum and irritating plant oils. Save your money and get Vaseline.

    • @txz9949
      @txz9949 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      denmarkstyle I think you misunderstand, I am not saying EXPENSIVE = BETTER, I’m explaining why PC is more expensive compared to TO formulations
      La mer and the other high end players are a whole other thing because they are in a different market of luxury skin goods you pay for the brand name of la mer and the fragrance and the whole experience
      You cannot compare consumer conscious brands like PC and TO with luxury brands they are for a different target consumer - they KNOW they have irritating fragrances and oils

    Dr. Dray could you do a video about fragrance in skincare? Only 1% to 4% of people get contact dermatitis from fragrance. So if my skin doesn’t react to fragrance, does it mean it is still bad or damaging to my skin? Does the percentage of fragrance in a product matter? Thanks!

      Even if you don't currently see any reaction, even if you never develop contact dermatitis, ALL fragrance compounds in ANY amount are irritants and therefore damaging to the skin which will eventually take its toll in various ways. She has said this many times in many different videos.

    Great video. I saw the Paula's Choice and wondered if the "less is more approach" was better. I use 2.5% benzoyl peroxide and so far it's works with minimal irritation, so I'm going to start with the lowest percentage of niacinamide.
    Please do an updated video on mineral sunscreens and pick a few for dark skinned African Americans. Right now, I'm using Cotz sensitive, which I love but my local Ulta is no longer carrying it. With the new study on chemical sunscreens, I'm too afraid to use them, so I need a mineral based alternative. Thanks in advance.

    I have combination acne-prone skin and I have tried both the 10% and 20%. The 20% is slightly thicker in consistency and does sting a tiny bit when applied. I see faster and better results after 2 weeks of using the 20%. With the 10%, I only see some results after 3 bottles. It pairs very well with their 10% Azelaic acid.
    I have lesser breakout now and the acne scars heal a lot faster.

    I bought this product without research how strong Niacinamide should be. When I realized I should bought 5% I was little upset, but because of high price I decided to try it. I decided to create a little barrier between it on my skin. I use it in the night over my Retinol cream (from Laneige). I was hoping that layering it over cream will help avoid irritation. I use it for about 2 weeks and I use about 5 drops. I'm actually amazed by the results, there is no irritation, my skin hasn't looked this good in years. My pores visibly shrunk, my skin is brighter, little bumps I had on my skin are gone. My face is so smooth to touch. I'm using retinol for 9 months and vitamin C for years but this is first product with such a quick dramatic results. I'm going to continue use it daily until my dark spots disappear, and then I will use it every other day. I'm planning to switch to retinol serum soon so niacinamide will go on top of moisturizing cream, and next time I will buy 5% one and compare results.

But, now, learning to deal with notalgia paresthetica (I’m like, really? Is this ever going to end)?? I don’t know what it is or that it even existed! I have trouble with niacinamide serum absorbing into my skin. The Ordinary brand forms like a tight film and starts pilling & flaking off, and I’ve read the same about many of the other brands. I just bought the CeraVe PM along with the Clinique mineral sunscreen, but I love an extra boost of niacinamide under my moisturizer because of the noticeable difference in my skin. I recently took a chance on a milky Vitamin B + Kale serum on sale that had great reviews for rosacea. I definitely see the anti inflammatory + hyperpigmentation difference that I’ve seen with niacinamide in the past, and it’s extremely hydrating. It’s by a Glow Recipe sister company called Sweet Chef. Normally $20 for 30 mL but it’s really working some miracles for me.
    I also purchased and am waiting to try the Clinique ID moisturizing system that went on sale. I got the hydrating jelly + the cartridge for inflammation. I’d love to know what you think about lactobacillus in skincare.
