"Isn't It A Pity" is one of my all-time favourite songs by anyone. It makes me emotional every single time I hear it -- especially that incredible slide solo. George Harrison was an amazing artist.

George let loose all the greatness he had been holding back due to the restrictions of the Beatles. What a marvelous album.. Produced by Phil Spector of the wall of sound fame. Many other musicians appear including Ringo, Eric Clapton, and many more.

I'd certainly agree it's right up there as the best post Beatles album by a Beatle. I also think John's first solo album Plastic Ono Band is very special because it's so raw and honest.

Unfortunately I feel like it suffers from a similar (but more glaring) problem that the White Album had, too big. If it was condensed to one disc it would be by far the best album.

What I love about George, is that he isn't afraid to just let the song breathe. He doesn't fill the verse with unnecessary words, like most songs today, he wasnt afraid to let the song just ring out like the ending just going and going and going. You're in a mindset, a vibe, and he let's you stay in it so you can get through all the emotions you need to.

That is one of my favorite bits in any song. The song starts out as a lament to a romantic love gone sour. But then during the outro, just at the edge of your hearing, something starts pulling on a thread in your mind. It takes it's time before it finally makes it's way into your consciousness and you realize what exactly you've been hearing and what the song is really about

See the Concert For George movie from 2002 where Eric Clapton teams up with McCartney, Ringo, and many other people that George had played with to play his songs. (Tom Petty, Gary Brooker,Jeff Lynne, Dhani Harrison, etc.) There is also an Indian music portion with Ravi Shankar and Indian musicians, including an accomplished sitar piece played by his daughter Anoushka. There is also a Monty Python segment, because George was a big supporter of theirs. The interviews on the DVD are touching. Then there is also the Martin Scorsese movie "George Harrison - Living In The Material World". Harrison wrote "Here Comes The Sun" while walking around with a guitar in Eric Clapton's back yard. George also wrote the bridge to the Cream song "Badge", as Clapton had played lead guitar on Harrison's "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". Harrison had written the song "Something" about his wife Patti, and later Clapton fell in love with her and wrote "Layla" about his unrequited love for her. She eventually left, and went with Clapton for a while, but the 2 guitarists still remained friends.

Great reaction guys. Really love the Beatles, both as a band & most of their solo. All things must pass was released as a double album & there was two versions of Isn't a pity on it. George was only allowed two of his songs on the Beatles albums so he had a lot of material going into this album.
Yes Nick Here Comes the Sun was George's song & he's singing on it. He also had the song Something on that same Beatles album.(Abby Road)

    Such a beautiful song!
George Harrison was a spiritual artist. He sought after greater purposes of life and gave music to his inner feelings and revelations in a rock era which was itself a challenging task to do.The depth of his songwriting and performances is unparalleled many of his songs have a real zenful effect.
And then of course his amazing slide.
He was really unique! George goes beyond The Beatles. That's my opinion.

Hi guys, so good to see this. Apart from being a massive Beatles fan since I was 9 years old, I have loved them each indivually with their amazing personalities and sense of humour. I have lost count of how many times I have watched their movies "A Hard Days Night" & "Help". "A hard Days Night" was the first ever movie I saw at the cinema aged 9, and it's still my favourite today. George Harrison's Liverpool humour in those movies is wonderful. His solo albums are filled with beautiful songs. He was very religious and quite simply a beautiful soul. I hope you dive into his solo stuff some more. It is one very rewarding journey if you do. Thankyou for playing this. I have this album and it is so good ! Byeee Jim X

The lead guitar fills in between the vocals and during the fade out is what George wanted to do on Hey Jude. Paul didn't like the idea and since that was his song he had the final say. So what did George do on this song, played lead guitar fills in between the vocals and in the fade out, with a little Hey Jude reference ( na na na na ) as a hint to Paul as if to say ' this is what I had in mind for Hey Jude'.

More Harrison/Beatles include: "Something" (from Abbey Road also), "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", "Taxman" (you'll run into this when you do "Revolver"), "I Me Mine", the trippy "Within You, Without You" and "Blue Jay Way" "If I Needed Someone" among others. This "All Things" album is terrific, start to finish, and features a ton of notable musicians, including Clapton, Whitlock, Preston.....I remember getting this album and Joe Cocker's "Mad Dogs and Englishmen" for Christmas the year they came out, talk about a contrast in styles! George was the secret weapon of the Beatles. He's a boss. He learned how to play slide guitar late in his Beatle years. He was always very humble about it though. He was a wonderful man who loved his wife, son and garden.

If You want to hear the very best of George's slide work then you should check out Alvin Lee's ( of Ten Years After fame) song The Bluest Blues, brilliant song, George is epic and Alvin absolutely kills it wth his solo. Too much goodness in one song.

Love this song. It's extremely Beatle-esque. George wrote it while he was a Beatle. The extended time at the end is straight out of the Beatles playbook. Ala, Hey Jude. Imagine if Paul and John were singing the harmonies?
Did you know? Just before the breakup, the Beatles discussed another album. In concept, a 4-4-2 album. Meaning, 4 songs by Paul, 4 by John, 4 by George and 2 by Ringo. If they had done that, possibly "Isn't it a pity" would have made that album. We'll never know.

Great pick as 1st Beatles-solo work. George was a very prolific writer as were Paul and John but few of his songs ever made it onto Beatles albums. George had plenty of song’s already written when the Beatles broke up, thus the reason it sounds very Beatle-ish and the number of songs (23) on this triple album. You’ll enjoy most any of his solo work.

This was George’s album where he let out a bunch of songs he had backlogged because the were rejected by the The Beatles for their albums. Lennon and McCartney dominated songwriting and selection from day 1. George took longer to learn to write and didn’t have the advantage of a writing partner.

This reminds me of like when you have a computer operating system and the geniuses decide it needs to be updated; sometimes it doesn’t make it better. My feeling about this remastered version, of this song makes me feel the same way. The production sound is now too bright and it makes George’s slide guitar sound like I’m listening to Duane Allman playing a blues riff instead of the melancholy expression George was trying to convey, in his performance; this is what always made his playing special. George had no problem, with the production, in 1970 and neither did I then or do now.
