Ruffneck boats was the original badass boat company that lead the way for bass boat production in Southern Africa.
The Viper , Venom and Renegade were all based off of a 20 foot Gambler built in 1994 .
Many modifications and and alterations to the running surface made by Jerry Jooste have made it one of the easiest boats to drive consistantly over 75 mph.
The ultra and Eliminator are copies of the ruffneck.
Gerry Jooste is an outright legend in his field. He is currently working on a new 21 foot bass boat which will be built once again in Zimbabwe and should blow the lid off the competition.
    Much respect to Gerry !

I’ve been largemouth fishing in South Africa on a SA made bass boat. It was an awesome boat. We saw other people out with rangers. It’s as say, the HP on the motors was insane. Also lots of double digit Florida strain largemouth in SA and in Zimbabwe

Hi. South African subscriber here. Great informative video. Like your straight-talking approach. Had to smile at some pronunciations :). Apart from bass boating, boating in general in our country is huge and well regulated. Been doing deep sea fishing (you guys call it offshore) for 35+ years. Our offshore boat builders build extremely robust boats that can handle our uniquely difficult sea conditions. I recon they produce some of the best and safest designs in the world. Many of us do surf launching - and once out there the sea can quickly get mighty unfriendly. For this reason, motors are extremely important. Plenty of Yamaha outboards hanging on the transoms our offshore boats, but these days Suzuki outboards are becoming more and more popular because of their reliability, fuel economy, pricing and after sales service. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experience. Keep the videos coming.

I have fished for South Africa many years and own my own boating business here. Driven many of the mentioned boats and out of my experience my personal favorite would most definitely be the brilliant bass boats. The terminator is based off of a 17ft Ranger, seen a few of them with 250hp outboards and owned one myself with a 150hp. The Xterminator is based off of a 19ft skeeter and this boat in my experience is the best handling and well finished boat that is made in RSA. Sold one a few months ago with a 300hp on it. Great to see you guys over in the US chatting about RSA!

    Hi Team Marine
I personally own a Crackleback 460 , it is an entry level bass boat rated for 100 hp 4 stroke and 115 hp 2 stroke .I don,t know if it is still manufactured today . Mine has a 115 v4 2 stroke Yamaha on it and it gets on plane from idling in about 1,5 boatlengths with a 4 blade 19 pitch propeller .
I cannot speak for the other models of the brand , but I am happy with mine .
On the size of bass in South Africa , there is one of the guys that commented that held a South African record on one of our local tournaments a few years ago and if I am correct the Southern African record was caught in Letsibogo dam in Botswana also a few years ago that was 7.4 kg if I remember correct .
Love your channel , love the enthusiasm

I had no idea bass boats were big in another country!! And they speak my language......huge hp on smaller rigs. I'd bet they handle like a squirrley pocket rocket. Like the old javelin little renegade 18 with a 175 fast strike.
, or ranger 320 with 150s or 200s did. 65mph feels like 95 in those little rigs.
Those rigs look pretty cool too. I'd bet they are a splash of one of the US made boats. One of these company's orda get ahold of the old Stratos hull molds and start building them again. A new Stratos asx or 201 with a 400r would be kick ass.

    Hey Guys
All these companies are still in business. Ruffnek and Crackleback (Escape Boating) are probably the older so the companies, with Ultra and Eliminator the new kids on the block. We have Nitro, Ranger, Skeeter and Triton… with a handful of Phoenix and one Bass Cat Lynx and odd Gambler in the country that guys have imported themselves. Skeeter are distributed through Yamaha here in SA, and I do believe Ranger and Triton still have dealerships, but not as much as 10/15 years ago. The odd Stratos and Champion are still around too I think !!
Escape Boating are a family owned company (the Barkers) and have a good number of staff and turn around roughly 20-30 units annually in the crackleback range alone.
Ruffnek have moved countries over the years, and have settled in Cape Town and are a favourite amongst the tournament regulars and are common place amongst most of the angling populous. I believe a lot of their models are based off early rangers and gamblers that guys imported in the 90s/00s, but I could be mistaken.
Ultra are seen as top end in the local scene and are priced as such. I believe they’re modelled off of some older Skeeters, but have a very sleek look, and offer top end components such as the sea Dec and other mod cons.
Eliminator are quite new in the market place, and I think are based on the Bullet hull (again, stand to correction) but several are in manufacture at the moment and should see some more coming through the course of the year
Our water ways country wide are generally small in comparison to you guys in the States, and tend to fish quite small too as some bodies of water don’t have huge populations generally … so speed is key, hence you’re seeing what you’re seeing. So guys can get to their spots sooner !! Also yes … no regulations … so 400R’s and super charger kits are common place out here if you got the $$$$
Hope this helps !!! And I’m sure most of the manufacturers would be happy to take your calls and answer your questions (especially the Barkers at Escape boating, I call them my friends to say the least)
    Mike

Here’s the honest shit. Ruffnek and Jerry designed most of those rigs. Unfortunately the Ultra and Eliminators are copies of ruffneks with small differences . Crableback is an original design too.

  • @anglerdudes
    @anglerdudes 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The Ruffnek ViperS and RenegadeS are the most versatile Bass Boats that I ever bin driven and the Top Speed/ Driving performance is insane.
What makes me sad is to see how guys like Ultra Boats taking here glory with a Copy of the Ruffnek Hulls and design, that's not a respectful way to make your business.
Thx to Team Marine Service for that awesome video.

I'm from South Africa our boats down here are wild , you need to come down some sizer fish in our dams aswell but ruffneck and ultra by far the best some proper speeds on our boats , it's more like drag racing with a bit of fishing but you can't believe how stable all these boats are at high speed and a even better fishing platform
No wood in our boats at all , woodfree

I was in south Afrika in 2021 and Stay there 10 days with Jürgen Geiger (the actual owner of Ruffnek) I got the chance to drive by myself all the models of Ruffnek boats and hell yea I can only say, this are absolutely dreamboats in point of driving performance top speed and fishing space.
It’s super sad to see guys like the Ultra Boat crew how only copies the hull and the design of a long developed boat liege the Viper of Ruffnek.
In the end the hard and honest work of the Original will pay of that’s for sure 😉💪.
