@@ShayferJames @Shayfer James It's true, your lyrics are quite good. But it's the restrained styling in your delivery coupled with them that makes it special, I tend to think. The menacingly spare, stripped down Misery is lovely. Elegant and brief, it puts the majority of the music I've heard to shame.
I do (as a hobby) educational lyrical breakdowns with artists (poets, rappers, songwriters, authors) with close reading of rhythm, literary devices, word choice, and rhyme schemes - to try to understand as deeply as possible, and hopefully show how just a few words, spoken or otherwise, can contain the events and thoughts of an entire lifetime and beyond, to be like a universe in a few drops of water.
May I have your permission to do a gears-level lyrical analysis of some of your music - and maybe ask you a few questions as well?

shayfer james never disappoints. i love the tribute to counterfeit arcade, which is one of my top 10 albums of all time. i'm afraid shipwreck is not below that.
i feel like the two albums complement each other. counterfeit arcade had more of an industrial 18th century criminal type of vibe going on. shipwreck is more like a mad man in a forest. it can be a continuation, or a different story that parallels to previous one.
i don't know if it was intentional or the artist has made an explanation about this. i just listen to the music and interpret it to however my imagination works. either way, it is a blessing to hear and feel these beautiful songs!!!!

I just love all of your music so much, particularly "Have a Seat Misery", (really all of "Counterfeit Arcade". Although I also love "Owl and the Elephant". Probably all of your music, even the March of Crows stuff that I don't fully remember) so I was super excited by "Welcome Back Misery"! Also, I've probably listened to Devils & Rebels a good dozen times, but the pauses with cocktail dress still caught me off guard because I couldn't remember what exactly came next. Those pauses feel so much longer that way.

I've been listening to your music for a long time to the point that I remember getting excited when hope and a hand grenade released back in 2019, and yet it took me this long to think of the possibility that you had videos to go along with the songs you make. As someone who has listened to your music in every state of mind possible, connected with the lyrics and melodies in a very personal way at times, and been helped through some very hard times by the comfort I find in your songs, I can say that the visuals most definitely match the music for depth and impact. I just finished watching the music videos and I figured there was no better way to commemorate that than by commenting on the video for my second favourite song from Shipwreck (Learning to be Lost is my favourite from Shipwreck, but its a close race.) Thank you for doing everything that you do and please continue creating wonderful music for us to enjoy when we're happy and connect with when we're not. You'll forever be a very impactful artist, and most definitely the best example of what I can only describe as "philosophical villain pop/rock" although perhaps that isn't the best descriptor of what you do.
