EDIT: Chinese New Year Events are January 13 and 14, 2023 in Honolulu.
Have you tried cake noodle before? If you have where do you like getting it from? Let me know!

Not sure how they are now but many moons ago they were good at On On on Kapahulu. MMM. Then walk across the street for two malasadas.

This video brought back great memories of my childhood. I grew up in Chinatown and remember going to Chin Chow snack shop(sp?) to buy ice cakes and candies. Keep the videos coming.

Charles , this is an interesting dish you are show casing. I wouldn’t have thought to call the round container a gravy , it looked more like a soup but then you poured it the chicken and it made sense ! 🥢 🤙🏼

My cake noodle journey: Went to college on the mainland and was confused as to why I could never find it or no one had ever heard of it. Came back, then after many years of living here I only just recently found out cake noodle is a local thing. Then just now from this video I found out it's made using saimin noodles. It took me a long time to find out there was a lot I didn't know about cake noodle, but I've always known I love it 😁! Thanks for sharing the info and ono grinds!

Cake noodle is one of the things we miss. No saimin noodles where I am in TX, so I make it with chow mein noodles. Sometimes in the wok and sometimes in the oven. Minute chicken is our goto order when we are back home.

Thanks for rushing to post this so we could be updated about the weekend festivities! I love Chinese New Year and all the Lion dances! I have to emphasize Lion because so many people think it is a dragon haha. I didn't know cake noodles were a Hawaii thing. I guess that is sort of like meat jun not being from Korea. I'm not the biggest Chinese food guy but my go-to places are Kin Wah and the food court style Chinatown Express haha.

This restaurant is not to wheelchair friendly, the ramp to the front entrance is not ADA compliant. But this is not the only place in Chinatown, that’s bot ADA compliant. There are only few workers in there that’s able to speak and understand English. I had tried to order that same dish you showed on your video, but gotten a completely different type of noodles, and the boneless chicken was in small strips. Noodles was the chow Erin noodles deep fried. But will give them a try again.

Dude, go and check out Mini Garden Express off Nimitz, by the airport....Minute Chicken w/crispy noodles or cake noodles....among some of the delicious foods they offer....btw, their minute chicken is boneless.

We used to like the minute chicken cake noodles at On On Chinese Restaurant which used to be in Kapahulu Avenue then the owner moved to McCully and Young Street where Dell's Kitchen and Bakery now resides. On On's version had a sauce that was oyster sauce based and came out steaming hot. Not sure if the On On Restaurant currently on Kapahulu Avenue is any relation to the original owner.

In your comments section, I wish you would write the name of the place you are getting your food from, it's address and maybe show it's menu.
