  • Used EV car prices are in a free fall with a 31 percent drop in prices amounting to an average of $14k less for many models. It isn't all bad for car with gas cars retaining their value much better per a recent study by iSeeCars.com.

Tesla prices shot WAY up during Covid. Even Elon said prices were embarrassingly high. So to compare to the high (that most did not buy at) is ridiculous.

People complain that EV prices are too high. Then they complain they dropped too much.
I buy and then keep for a long time. Then I want my next car with more features for less money. That also means less in taxes and insurance. Seems ridiculous that people want car prices to remain high so they feel good about their resale only to turn around and pay too much the next time too.
Places like hertz simply bought at the worst possible time. They should have eased into it and train their staff better. EVs will come back full force and the gas cars will eventually die.

That is why you buy used. I own a model x and I love it. A vehicle should never be an investment.

The bulk of EV depreciation is the $7500 Federal tax credit. If you buy a $40k EV, get a $7500 tax credit, then have a resale value of $30k, you are only down $2500. See how that works?

Yup, that is a big issue people aren’t aware of.

    >EVs are cheaper, buy expensive gas cars instead!
This buy high sell low thinking is why so many people stay poor. Happening with Tesla stock too, which is hilarious.

In 2020, 65% of all EVs were leased. Leases usually are for 3 yrs. Sooo, expect a sh1tload of EVs to come back to the used market in the coming months.
And who wants a used EV? If there is a problem with the battery, it will cost much more to replace the battery than the car is worth!! Look at the 2 Ionic 5 in Canada that were totaled by the insurer because the battery's "PROTECTION" plate was damaged!!! And to replace said batteries, the cost was $60K CAD. Yet the car is only worth $55K Brand NEW!!! Yeah, I'll pass on EVs. Cheers

Good point on EV leases. I hadn't considered that.

I’ve owned my model S for 7 years and 112k miles. Still runs great. Will never buy an ICE vehicle again.

What is the resale value of your model S if you were to sell it? Cheers@@shou635

Don't buy EV?? No problem there my friend. Industry is in tough spot right now. EV tech is at an acceptable level for "car" applications but we're in a truck/SUV culture and people aren't ready to "do things differently" as far as their traveling routines are concerned. Couple that with a higher initial cost and you have a recipe for failure. Now, if they can make it 5 or 10k cheaper than an equivalent ICE vehicle, they'd have something.

I’m glad I didn’t listen to these naysayers. If one is worried about prices, buy used or lease. I buy and keep for a long time. Have had my model s for 7 years and 112k miles and still runs great.

@@shou635if price isn't an issue why do the American taxpayers have to subsidize them.... go ahead, I'll wait.

You are right. After living my whole life as a gear head owning practically every form of machine known to man, I was sick of the poor quality junk that I was spending my life paying for. I just stopped buying the stuff. I bought a pair of hiking shoes and a walking stick and Im free from all that disappointment.
