From one of the most broken game launches in history, to one of the greatest videogame collections in history. This is the story of Halo: The Master Chief Collection.
If I am remembering correctly this the 1st time 343i used a rotating roster of contractors and the start of their norm of incomplete crap at launch and only to be redeemed 5-8 years later
Love the video Remy! Just a heads up that you mention Series X throughout the first half of the video when I think you mean One X, as all of that is talking about pre-2019
Imagine having access to the most important and influential gaming IP of the 2000s for 12 fucking years and the best thing they've done was port a half-assed collection of the Bungie games to PC.
I disagree. Bringing it to PC has introduced hackers and cheaters. You can no longer play fair games because PC players are flying around the map in god mode. If they really wanted to perfect this, Xbox users would have the option in their matchmaking filters to turn off the option to play with PC users.
Thanks to the Master Chief Collection I was able to finaly play the legendary HALO games last year. I sure was late to the party, but I am happy the collection let me experience these great games.
@@maybebaking5943 yeah, so let’s say you wanted to wear recon armour for halo 3, you had to wear the entire recon armour set, shoulders, chest, that stuff. Halo 4 was worse, it had all the customisation options in the original game but it also was restricted to “Want to wear this? Wear the entire set then!” thing again that the game had, also all visor colours for halo 4 were red. It’s not like infinite but similar.
That was a technological limitation at first due to how the BLAM engine from Bungie worked. Armor pieces couldn't be added to the games post launch because they had to update every single map in such a way in order for it to appear. The UI had to be rendered in unreal engine for the menus so they could finally have proper armor customization. They should've worked that out before launch definitely but it's a hurdle to get over because of engine limitations.
It is crazy how this game took nearly 3 years to iron out most major issues. This truly was one of the biggest disappointment and gaming history in terms of launch, but at least it finally came together. Hopefully we as a gaming community and not just a halo community start holding these corporations accountable for broken messes that they never get away with.
For me and my dad, the 2018 trailer was a day like no other. We though we'd be stuck on halo 2 for good and then this happens and now my favourite halo games are 2 and Reach
Mint! The Anvil - MCC Forge Community - would love to have you join an Invasion customs night hosted by us! We spent the last 4 years building and rebuilding Reach Invasion maps that are designed to be balanced around a matchmaking experience! You can see our lobby being hosted in the CGB at 22:00!
Indeed! The maps that we've been working on for years have gone through countless playtests and had really shaken up to be the most fun and balanced as we could make them. Each one offers a unique experience and pushed map making to new heights thanks to xbox compatible mods that manipulate objects to scale in any desired size, much like Halo Infinite's forge. If you ever are on the browser and see the session stated by haloguy above, by all means, hop in!
Honestly... It would be interesting to see what the community are doing on the MCC. Mint basically never talks about custom games when it's such a massive part of halos identity
Honestly, I wish they had moved forward with the microtransactions for things like new armors and skins, or as a way to unlock previous seasons faster. Not because I would’ve paid for any of them - cosmetics mean little to me - but because it would’ve given 343 incentive to keep MCC alive.
MCC coming out on PC was like christmas to me, I haven't owned an xbox since the 360 so being able to replay the classics on my rig was a childhood miracle come true.
I’m in my early 20s, so this game was basically my childhood and I have lots of memories of this game. This game introduced me to halo as I was too young to play halo when halo 3 or reach were in thier primes
It doesn’t even feel like 10 years damn time really flies by. I remember the day this came out. I was eight years old at my cousins house on a late night 😢 makes me kind of sad actually
I feel like MCC just launch last year not like 10 years ago, dang time files so quickly and still grateful being halo fan during 2019 on the golden era of halo.
Hey Remy! Great video! You continue to be a pillar of the Halo community! I would love to see more docu series content on the other Halo releases and maybe even other games like the classic COD games, Gears and so on. Keep up the great content!
MCC is amazing achievement. But it’s such a shame they left it 90% done. No modded server browser, no Splitscreen on PC, no mpds on Xbox. These missing things are preventing the game from reaching L4D2 and CSGO levels of longevity.
Just picked it back up after getting my G9. Love the ultrawide support. I’m having a blast. Replayed some campaigns, and the multiplayer doesn’t feel as sweaty. Granted… the OLED response time really make troller much more comfortable.
Let’s hope that if it comes to PS and Nintendo Switch we get the Mac world, Alpha moon and H2E3 missions and all the HO weapons plus a few other things
To this very day, MCC still has a creative content cap of a total of 100 gametypes and maps across the entire game. For anyone who creates custom content, this is a nightmare because you have to constantly delete and remake the content over and over again.
Halo online was such a vibe. It was weird like the menu could only use arrow keys, a rush to see who can port the campaign, insane forage maps and modes. But man the Servers and servers regulars the nostalgia. Idk how to describe it you’d have to be there. Most similar thing I can think of was early halo infinite forge where you’d have to join a discord. Yeah everything is convient now but there was something special about that in between period.
I hope after the Digsite team's work is done, they officially add it in via patch later. I'd love to earn some achievements on those old missions. I'd also love to see Halo 5 integrated into the PC version. Yeah, the campaign sucks, but the multiplayer is a blast (and yes, I know Halo 5's multiplayer is already on PC). Adding it to MCC would really boost its popularity all over again, and perhaps all the awesome post game Halo 5 content they added would actually be played this time around! I also think simply adding the new weapons into the campaign would be a small but positive way to get people interested in replaying the campaign. Perhaps add a mech grunt boss or two as well.
Not sure how it was so broken. Multi million dollar company that couldn’t fix a networking issue. Still gives me goosebumps hearing that halo 2 menus music, then seeing coming to PC.
Really good recap. As many screwups 343 has had with MCC, there is so much good that has happened and they really did a great job once they put the proper attention on it. A ton I love about the game. That said, I know support stopped for MCC (and I sadly know this won't happen), but 343 really needs to do one more update of fixes. This should include things such as get rid of the stuck in leaving matchmaking in the lobby, lobbies just not loading once you have everyone together, and obviously solve the name spoofing/cheating issue
Shameless plug: For theater, I made a program called "Greater Ark" (Windows only) that saves reports and films as you play. Working on a new version with Linux support that saves a lot more.
It still needs *a lot* of work to polish up the single player experience and help preserve the games as best as possible. Fans should be more vocal about this. If only they spent more time on that than adding a ton of shitty cosmetics, maps and battle passes that ruin the art direction of the original experience.
The halo 1/2 legacy graphic updates were so important to me and I’m so surprised they did it. Just wish they added splitscreen on pc to keep with the console legacy.
The last thing I'd wish for is splitscreen on PC to solidify the collection and, so far Nucleus Coop has offered that experience though native support would make setting up local games far easier as in the OG times ! Though as support ended , it seems unlikely to ever happen. As Arbiter would say, were it so easy. Otherwise it's been fantastic and surprising to see MCC become what it is today , an amazing bundle for a franchise beloved by many.
Great video! I have an idea for a future video if you're interested in something different? I'd love to see a video about the custom game community on the mcc in 2024. It's thriving and has so much cool stuff but so many halo fans don't know about it. I think some of it would genuinely surprise you.
10 years later, we still don't have Halo 5 as part of the collection. Naturally, that's because he was never in Halo 5, but his spirit and legacy was clear for all to see in ODST and Reach.😅
The last update MCC needed was Bots for those who can't play online on XboxLive, but I see that was too much to ask. Still, it is an excellent collection.
Remember how amazing reach’s launch on PC. Only thing that bumbed me out were the trailers. They were so generic, just remaster the ones from 2010, those had emotion.
I wasn't very big on multiplayer for a long time. I just wanted to play campaign because I like the story. I remember however when this game came out I was unable to play the Halo 3 campign on any level. Turns out I had to turn off my Xbox One, unplug the power supply, hold down the power button for 3-10 seconds and then plug everything back in and turn it on again. It infuriated me that 1/4 of the OFFLINE STORY MODE was unaccessible!!
The only problem that i still have as a daily player on MCC, is the coop lag. Even in two consoles in the same house, the lag makes it almost unplayable for everyone that isnt host.
I never understood people getting upset about new armor sets for Halo 3 multiplayer. Like if someone else in a match had an armor set that didn’t have any of the original halo 3 armor sets, it doesn’t affect your experience.
