The difficulty in this piece is to find the right articulation and the right sound balance between the "Tutti" and the "solo", trying to mirror a "concerto grosso" setting without betraying the character of the organ. Replicating the spirit of Vivaldi in this work is far from an easy task and many famous organists failed at this - especially modern-age performers who all seem scared of drawing bulky stops when playing these transcriptions. Richter's performances in this collection are true gems, definitely helped by the stark and crystalline sounds of this organ. Pity he didn't record the d-minor concert (BWV 596), it would have been another stunning piece to hear.
Agreed. Luckily this was my first version of this concerto I heard. Inspired me to pick up the score and learn this piece. Heard many other versions . Some make it like the string orchestra is playing , Richter makes sure its the organ 's rendition of Vivaldi's work

Diese Schallplatte hatte ich als Kind gehört, bis sie der 1950er Jahre-Plattenspieler kaputtgehobelt hatte und war immer davon fasziniert. In Jahrzehnten als Berufsmusiker durfte ich im Orchester auch beim Vivaldi-Original mitspielen und hatte nebenbei die Bach-Orgelversion als Hobby-Organist geübt und gespielt, aber diese Karl Richter ist nach wie vor der Fixstern für mich. Unerreicht und ein purer Genuss vom ersten bis zum letzten Ton.

I thought that was Karl Richter! and turns out it was! when I saw the album cover. Lot of knarly interesting reed stops and sweet stops. One can hear the organ as bridging medieval and early classical music sounds.
