    I can't praise anymore this orchestra and specially Mr. Estrada because I'm out of superlatives. I have heard (seen) most of the recordings they made and I am always astonished with the beauty and perfection of each one. I've heard this piece more than a hundred times in my life but never with such atention to detail, such working with the dynamic relations, timing, and everything that brings this piece so much alive and emotional. Hope for a very long career to this orchestra and specially Mr.Estrada who is, in my view, a godsend to the art of music.

    So glad I found this. The Symphonic Dances is one of my all time favorite works and I'm a huge fan of Andres Orozco-Estrada. He is a master conductor. You can feel his passion but unlike so many modern conductors, he doesn't make it all about HIM.

    Redolent in parts of Ravel, Sibelius, Copland, Barber. The 20th century threw up some great composers, and I love to hear the saxophone used in "serious music". It's wonderful throughout. These FRS concerts are beautifully played, imaginatively conducted, and the sound balance is terrific. Thanks so much, European cousins.

    Ultra-Romantic, atmospheric, energetic, dramatic, and exciting, this is one of Rachmaninoff's finest works, and with his three symphonies constitutes a high point in Russian orchestral literature - masterpieces all. This is a somewhat puzzling interpretation however; after a sprightly opening movement and normally-paced 'andante', it seems to lose momentum in the finale with a slackening of tempo that allows the listener's interest to wane somewhat. I've heard and enjoyed a few of Orozco-Estrada's FRSO efforts on YT, but he can be surprising in his approach to the music. I do get the impression that he considers each composer and style on an individual basis, which is a definite plus, and a quality some conductors don't have.

    There has been discussion about whether the beautiful saxophone solo was a tribute to Glazunov, who had written a nice sax concerto, but had also made a dog's breakfast of the first performance of Rachmaninov's First Symphony. If so, that shows a touching generosity from a composer who probably knew this was his last composition and died soon after it was completed. One can hear a resume of all of his previous works and memories in what I think was his masterpiece.

    • @daviddavenport9350
      @daviddavenport9350 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think I remember it being suggested that some of the great American saxophone artists were an influence here...Rachmaninoff had been living in America for some time.....and I think I hear a certain rhythmic modernity in this music as a result.

    • @vifcole
      @vifcole 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is really interesting. I'm a saxophone player getting ready to perform this solo in school but recently learned the Glazunov, and grew to love it as one of the all time beautiful saxophone pieces. This adds another interesting layer of connection. It definitely does flow with a similar delicate feel to some of the Glazunov themes.

      Quarks & Co in german TV intro with this music.
      Es ist eine wissenschaftliche Fernsehsendung, in der seit vielen Jahren diese Musik als Intro und im Abspann zu hören ist.
      Früher dachte ich, die Musik wäre von Sergej Prokofjev.
