    The arcade i went to as a kid had this. You could feel the bass in this thing when you walked in!

    Found one of these cabinets in a local burger shop. The trackball control feels amazingly responsive.

    This game has endless number of levels like how has PACMAN. The level colour has periodicity 14 levels. The monsters become faster if deepdelving in levels, but after level 40 follows same 14 levels again and again until lose all lives (game over)

    What is up with the penalty heads spawning in huge amounts sometimes? For example at 29:35 they appear at a much faster rate than normal and I cant seem to find anything unusual triggering it.

      @dinktyke  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      DrThunderous9x the initial heads that struck the bottom were poisoned by scorpion mushrooms causing them to fall straight to bottom. The last head was reaching the bottom for the 2nd time causing the side feed. Hope that explains it.

      Yeah but the additional heads are spawning super extremely fast, normally they only show up once every two seconds roughly. At that moment they were spawning way more frequently than that, filling up the screen in less than a second.
      Is that just a glitch or does it tie into the level progression, since it seems to happen only sometimes? I never made it very far in this game so I'm just sorta curious.

      DrThunderous9x It is level progression, yes. They get faster than that and it gets to a level where it's not worth even trying, it can ruin the whole game quite easily. Eventually it does reset to coming out the sides slowly again. A very good thread here explains how it works here.... amongst other things www.classicarcadegaming.com/forums/index.php/topic,904.0.html
      It's helped me play to another level and reach 999,999 on my own cabinet. Few vids of the cabinet play on my channel.

    Does anyone have any idea how to deactivate the kill screens in the original stand up centipede games? High scores are really limited by how often the game throws kill screens at you in the higher levels.

      There might be a way to hack the rom so that when you beat the level before the kill screen it loops back to the first level

    Does anyone know if there is a way to deactivate the kill screens in centipede?
    Once I get over 400,000 I will occasionally lose control of the player or the side feed will turn on without being activated. Sometimes the gun briefly stops firing. I realize these glitches were programmed into the old games to get rid of players hogging the game on one quarter. But since I own the game I really don't need to have the game knock me out prematurely.
    Needless to say at that level a couple of kill screens in a row will end the game. 550,000 is about as high as I can get without deactivating the kill screens. Any advice on ways to fix this problem would be appreciated.

      Gary Savage Don't know what you mean by kill screens. Sometimes a rogue segment will somehow get trapped and fall all the way down the side causing a side feed onslaught, happens quite often and nothing you can do about it really. When the side feed is at it's fastest, impossible to clear, eventually it will reset back to slow, around the 400k mark as a guide. If you've been point pinching heavily up to that mark it can easily be over 470k before reset, did that to me a few weeks back.
      As for the briefly not firing, i'd suggest more mushrooms on the screen, concentrate on using the shooter underneath a lower mushrooms and try avoiding firing up gaping tunnels when under an onslaught. Good luck.

      @@dinktyke Yes I know all those tricks. I can usually get far enough to reset the side feed. Obviously these glitches are programmed into the game to knock off expert players and get the quarters coming back in. Just wondering if there is any way to deactivate this feature. It's frustrating to play for an hour and get to 500,000 only to have the game throw 4-5 kill screens at you and knock you out without one making any mistakes.

      @@garysavage8110 I got you now, the rogue sidefeed onslaught... here's a copy and paste of an explanation, but to be honest, I don't use it. I prefer rapid fire at all times.... and if it happens, so be it.

      Yeah what is up with this? Nothing dismantles my focus more than a string of WTF side-feeds - game cheats soo bad!
      One relatively common instance of this is a head that is essentially "trapped" on the rightmost column of the screen. If there's another head (or the flea) just to it's left and there's a full screen of mushrooms, they both pretty much make a beeline to the bottom of the screen. One of the Centipede clones in MAME actually displays this effect as ALL the heads start on the right and when there's 12 of them the bottom one appears to start basically near the bottom of the screen. One way to help alleviate it is to keep the rightmost column clear of mushrooms as far up the screen as you can.

      @@dinktyke I always keep a tunnel in the middle, but I'll try keeping the side clear as well.

    This is looking awesome, These games are really challenging because of trying to get a great high score,
    I just wathed the movie pixels its aesome,
    These games should be remade 3D on the newer platforms just fun to play games just for trying to get high scores.
    All the new games look the same the only difference is the story what is also blurred away alot.

      Are you kidding? Pixels fucking sucked. And there was a 3D remake of this back in 98 for Dreamcast and PC.

      And every remake including Millipede arcade was shit also. This was their peak apart from Asteroids.

      When we see the capability of the dreamcast ofcourse it wil suck but with the technique of today these games can be awesomely be remade i wouldn't be surprised that nintendo would do it.
      I am glad you dont have the same taste like me means more left overs for me.

    The 300,000 mark is what separates the men from the boys in this game. Until then it's relatively easy. There seems to be a large increase in difficulty at every 60,000 point bump. You don't fire unless you have to, which I think is a better way to play, but when the score gets over about 500,000 you don't have a choice but to fire all the time. It's flea city at that point no matter what you do.

    • @dinktyke
      @dinktyke  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      jeffw1267 Agree with that, Jeff. You can still get breaks from the fleas later on in the game though by easing off the fire button, just means lowering your mushrooms a level... which is easier said than done! There's a manual to download from somewhere with the experts levels explained, number of mushrooms needed below certain levels at certain score levels. I've always just played how I sense the game. Not had chance to take it all in and take to a game on a cabinet yet.... that could change in the next 4 to 5 weeks or so when my own upright cabinet arrives from USA :)
      Edit.... The Video Masters guide to Centipede ... it's a PDF download.
