5 Signs You're An Empath

  • เผยแพร่เมื่อ 16 ส.ค. 2024
  • Are you an empath or a highly sensitive person? Are you wondering if someone might be an empath? Perhaps, your sibling, a partner, or a close friend? Someone who is an empath has the ability to understand and share the emotions of another person. It can be understood as “feeling with” someone. It involves stepping into their shoes to imagine what they are going through and being caring and compassionate in order to make them feel better. This caring, this desire to help, is what separates empathy from sympathy. Although they both deal with relating to another person, empathy is felt more deeply and reaches a broader range of emotions. Empaths are compelled to help because they grasp the experiences of others so vividly. Sympathy usually only extends to sorrow or pity. Do you feel being an empath is a gift or a curse? Share this video with someone who might relate.
To all empaths spending their time alone indoors - don’t feel bad about doing that. It’s perfectly okay.

I would honestly say A benefit, Since you’re more likely to see what others are feeling in a situation, and help them out with it. Like one of my friends got stalked a few weeks ago, And I helped her by telling the police about it, And so now she’s thankfully okay. I imagined what it would feel like to be stalked, so then That’s why I decided to help her. Anyways, I absolutely love your videos! They always help me out no matter what. Thank you for all of your videos and information in them! ❤️

It varies depending on the person. It can be a gift when it allows you to better understand someone, thus strengthening your connection with them. It can be considered a curse when another person's emotions overwhelm you. Sometimes, it gets to the point you forget your own emotions. For example, my father lost a relative that was close to him, and although he rarely shows his emotions, I could tell he was upset. I'm close to my dad, and my empathy is very strong for people I'm close to. I ended up feeling some of his grief for him, and I was a trainwreck for a few days.

I've got some solid advice for my empaths out there! This is more of a visual way to put it, but I'll do my best to explain. My therapist gave me this perspective, and it's helped me identify my own emotions and other people's as well.
Imagine other people's emotions as rain coming down onto you. You can let it come down onto your skin and soak you through, but you don't want to do that. So you need a raincoat to block out those emotions. Now, you'll still be able to feel the rain against your raincoat, however it won't be soaking you. This image has actually helped me out a lot in trying to pick apart things. Sometimes you have to sit back and address yourself, "Hey, am I upset because of my own emotions, or is it because someone else is going through something?" And to process this! Alone time is also very, very important for empaths, and was an excellent point in the video!
Remember to have empathy for yourselves too, you're deserving of that love.

I've learned to deal with my empathy by completely closing myself off. I was too young when everything started to make me *feel*. It was terribly uncomfortable and when I lost my emotional outlet, it became unbearable. So I became apathetic. I can still understand the emotions of people around me, better than even themselves, but I simply can't care anymore. In the end, I come off as someone callous, which I am, so I figured it was better to just pretend I am too dense to understand, instead of uncaring. At least I was old enough to understand the social cues to know when I should just smile, or be angry, etc. But even so, overwhelmingly strong emotions always end up affecting me, and I hate it because it makes me feel like I am losing control, so I end up even more frustrated. Still, I miss the times when I could be happy or sad, feel anxious and impatient, now they feel so alien to me.

Lorran Davi Azarany I bet most [“non empaths”] would read your message and say you’re just an egotist or something unhinged. But the reality is you can state things like “and know their emotions better than them” as a literal mater of fact. Or the way you modify yourself to such a degree... I can already hear the psychopath comments...but that’s just how we are. Certain things are a bit too easily manipulated for us. I have to ask - how are you able to change so completely. To the point you’re not trying...it’s a grounded, embedded status. Such as not feeling the anxiety ?? I had an ex that could put herself into a completely unemotional shell. But that was more depression/dissociative dark shit. I want to find a technique to modify even anxiety! Thanks 🙏🏼

i understand this. this is normally a sign of a soulfully drained empath, maybe it’s just you’ve been surrounded by too miserable people for too long, perhaps your location is to sub-urban, some important tips for empaths truly is self-isolation. it may seem like self harm to others, but it’s a necessity to HSP. I’d also suggest meditating about three times. a week for 15 minutes at a time. you don’t have to be in total silence to meditate, you can meditate with music if it helps you. try re-connecting with nature, i’d also suggest taking warm showers in times of emotional distress. it may seem weird, but they offer warmth and comfort that often times, most people can’t offer a HSP.

You need discipline, and I do not intend to offend. I spent my entire life trying to help and getting screwed over, I lived with people who hated me just because I was me, I was bullied relentlessly and almost killed on several occasions, I fell towards addiction, towards shutting myself off to the world. But in all the chaos I found that sometimes there are things more important than yourself, sometimes your strength is defined by your endurance, and the more you endure the stronger you can become. I learned to train myself, to master my emotions and let go of my ego, so that I could devote my life to helping without ever expecting anything in return, or being spiteful in the face of abuse, people are hurtful, abusive, and destructive, but letting them change you when you've been given a beautiful gift for being able to see things for how they should be seen, that's a true crime my friend.

Finally, something I can talk about :D.
First of all I have to say that I can feel empathy, and it really made me who I am today.
Sometimes it is great, because when people (especially my friends and family) feel good and happy, I feel a lot better, and I think it kind of helps me strengthen my friendships because I try to make them feel happy.
However, when they are sad, not only do I understand them, but I also *feel* sad too. This really hurts and made me struggle with a lot of things (I'm getting professional help though).
So, basically it is a double edged sword. Don't forget to love yourself too, you are great.

@@smokesignals3953 I'm afraid I learned my lesson in the hars way, but I have a really important piece of advice.
You should try to care about you the closest you can to how you treat other people.
It might be really difficult (it was for me), but don't get discouraged:
Have you heard the phrase "Fake it 'til you make it"? Well if you force yourself to do it, in a matter of time you will start doing it unconsciously and you won't be immersed in situations that are bad for you.
Also, I think that you should take into account this anecdote:
When I was struggling more with empathy I used to *feel* really bad when my best friend talked to me about her problems; which led to her not going for me when she needed to talk to someone.
I thought I had hurt her, and this resulted in conversations that felt horrible.
She couldn't talk to me to get better, I couldn't help, I *felt* bad.
Eventually I realized what was going on and I *tried to ONLY understand people, and feel less* so that I can help without feeling bad myself.
I hope this helped, and I reccomend you to talk about this with someone you trust or with your family and ask them for help to go to therapy, it is the best for these situations. I am aware that in some countries a psychologist isn't free, but I hope that you can get better.
If you need something and you don't have anyone to talk about, talk via Instagram (I'll leave it in the next comment in case it gets deleted) and I'll try to help.
      Have a good day

For me, it’s definitely a gift. I have kept many friends from it and it means that I have a lot more jobs open to me, as I can actually feel what they are feeling and they really appreciate it. I want to be a midwife or a paramedic, and being an empath is definitely helpful for these.

Gift! You have to be sure to balance your own emotional health with helping others though. It takes a lot of practice and learning to set healthy boundaries or to know when you are the one who needs to help (be that listening or otherwise).

If you live in America, don't. You'll have far too much pressure to shill for big pharma. Plus, doctors(including Psychiatrists) on average come out of Med school with 200k in debt, which is a contributor to shilling for big pharma too, but is also a huge stressor.

    Reasons start at 1:55
    1. You are emotionally intuitive
    2. You jump at the chance to help others
    3. You think with your heart rather than your head
    4. You’re sensitive
    5. You need time to recharge

So I am an empath, and being an empath is both a blessing and a curse.
It's a blessing, because you know what you're friends are going through and you can easily relate to them, even if you haven't experienced what they're going through.
It also helps if your friend and/or family member needs someone to talk to and you can always be there for them, that makes you a wonderful friend.
Another reason why it's a blessing is that we tend to understand more than some other people, you would be surprised to see how many people don't really care about the little things that get to us.
The reason why it's a curse, is that you are easily taken advantage of. This is coming from personal experience, because I have been taken advantage over and it did not end well for me. I'm much better now, but that is one of the dangers of being an empath.
It's a curse, because when you go into a crowded room you are hit with so many emotions, you are thrown off and that's why most empaths are introverted.
Most of the time, people will come up to you and start spilling of what's bothering them, and you cannot really say no, because you want to help them in the best way that you can and you would feel like a failure if you said no to them.
When you spend too much time with other people and start confusing their emotions with yours, you tend to go into a state of mind that you think that the emotions you're feeling because of other people is your emotions and that can get pretty nasty, again I'm speaking from personal experience.
Most of the time, being an empath is a curse. But when you help a loved one go through whatever is holding them down, you feel better about yourself and about them now that you've helped them.
It is also okay to take a break from people every once in a while and take time for yourself, talking to a close friend also helps.
Thank you for listening to my Ted Talk.

I feel like the hardest thing about being an empath is sustaining good boundaries with others. Most of the time, empaths want to help another person with their feelings and sometimes, it’s taken too far and the empath’s needs are not being met. What helps to cope with this is remembering that I can’t control anyone but ourselves, that I need to fulfill my own needs if I want to help others, and to set aside one day or a few hour block just to myself and relax. For me, I dedicate a few hours every Saturday to play video games. For some people, that’s 30 minutes a week. I hope this helps someone. Go empaths!

I guess I'm an empath, i thought I was a bit strange. Especially this year, we were learning history really quickly and wjen learning about ww1, casualties, unemployment, the great depression, ww2, genocide, MORE casualties, bombs and everything inbetween, i litterally felt depressed. It was genuinely painful to hear about everything and is still affecting me a week later. Not only that, but im constantly aware of people and their feelings and always need a break to myself. I think, despite how much pain it brings me, I think being an empath is a gift and I'm happy that I'm aware of what people feel. After all, words can't always describe feelings and I'm glad I can be there for people even if it hurts me sometimes. With a gift like this, you just gotta be strong sometimes :)

Yep, totally an empath. It's worked plenty of time, however when I used to spend time with my grandma and try to help him feel more positive, he pushed it aside, I wanted to hear why he was so negative and he'd tell me vauge stories and if feel for him, however he gave nothing back to me. Feels like he took an advantage of that sometimes.

Honestly, I hated the experiences I went through but I actually REALLY enjoy helping people through their problems. I always say that "things will get rough" or "life may not always be perfect" because I know that whether you're trying to better yourself, trying to find yourself, going through something, ect. There are going to be challenges for them to face. I may "give out wisdom" but I can't really do much other than encourage motivation and tips and I'm not an expert either. So, sometimes I will feel terrible if I don't be there for a person who asks for my help....anyway I'm done with my blabbering. I hope to whoever's read all of this enjoys there day.

I was recently told by a reliable psychic that I am an empath. This is the third time a intuitive person has said this to me. My take away from this person is to learn how to protect my energy field so I don’t feel drained. I don’t think being a empath is beneficial at all. I can’t watch the news because the random negativity is too much for me. We all know it’s fake anyway, but just the death and destruction of television news is hard on me. I have learned to surround myself with positive people and media. Being a dumping ground for whatever pops up on tv and being around negative people is a huge burden for me. Thanks for the video and peace and love to everyone. Namaste

  • @starskiistarska1764
    @starskiistarska1764 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Being an empath isn't always easy.
It's like you have so much love, and you give it away to everyone! Everyone, to the point where you sometimes give your love and kindness to the wrong people.. and you eventually run out of love.. and you don't have any left for yourself.. because you gave it to the wrong people. They drained you out of love and you would need more than a few days to recharge. For me, it took at least 5 years for me to start loving not just my friends and family, but also started loving myself for who I am.
And, yeah, It's overwhelming. It's overwhelming having to deal with a lot of emotions. One close friend is all happy and giggles and you feel that way too and you feel like it's the best day of you life, but when you get home, you're mom may have a horrible day at work and makes it obvious that she doesn't want to be bothered, you immediately feel a slight feeling of anger and you feel like you would snap at the smallest things at home.

I didn't know I'm an empath until recently I realized that why do I feel fear and irritated when my new classmate's work is rejected? And when I think about it, everything makes sense to me. My family kept saying to me "if you don't tell us, hoe would we know?". I always thought that my family aren't being considerate, and so I was always mad at them. Sometimes I felt weird like how I can know what people think or feel, and I ask my family, they said I'm bluffing. I sometimes feel extremely mad out of nowhere while taking a nap, and wonder why. This explains a lot, and I can't expect anyone around me to believe this.
