  • Here are the pros and cons of the irrigreen sprinkler system so far. you may ask, Is the irrigreen sprinkler system worth the investment? How well does it perform in the real world? Is irrigreen any good? Well, I’m 60 days into my system and there’s a few things to talk about.
I want to show some pros and cons and help to answer the question of is this sprinkler system all it’s cracked up to be?
Summer is now in full swing and the days are getting hot. This is where the rubber will ultimately meet the road. Currently the coverage and water volumes are great, no hot spots, no irrigation shadows or shapes. But is there anything else that could be lurking?

I have never posted a comment anywhere and am just an average Joe so no special company treatment here but I installed an 8 head Irrigreen system this past spring and had to follow up on this video and comments. I did have some issues as mentioned in the video specifically with hardware / software in my heads initially but have since resolved all issues. I knew with new tech I might run into some bugs. Customer service has been excellent. Honestly I have never had better customer service and a company wanting to work with me, make things right, and actually listen to and address my comments and suggestions. The system works as advertised and they are always working to make the system as a whole better from software, hardware, app development, and head/nozzle R&D and design.
As for the plumbing I initially installed the system directly to my hose bib which I pressure and flow tested and met company recommendations. I used all 1 inch PVC and I had good zone reach running straight from my hose bib but was just short in a few areas. I had extensive discussions with a plumber and Irrigreen about tying the system straight to my main house water line and if it would increase my throw and performance(it was a big price tag to plumb it “right “ with a pressure regulator, deduct meter, rpz backflow, pressure gauge, two ball valves, drain valve, and a blow out connection running on 1” copper lines to my 1”PVC). Ultimately I wanted to make sure I was getting the most out of the system and protecting the house so I did the right thing and had my main waterline split inside the house to a 1” line with components inline as mentioned above all the way out to my PVC with 80psi and my throw and performance of the system increased and I couldn’t be happier.
I have held extensive discussions with Irrigreen tech support and had just great support. I learned a lot about the system as a whole and learned a bunch from doing the install myself. It took a lot for me to cut into a nearly pristine sod yard ( sod cut, trenched, recovered) so something I didn’t do but would recommend for ease of potential repairs like some have mentioned is to run a second PVC line for the controller wire with bends and size large enough to pull the wire through if needed. I hated cutting into and damaging my sod so I think this would be a wise addition to help with potential digging and repairs down the road.
Overall I love having the latest and greatest thing in the neighborhood. Everyone is in amazement when I describe and show them the system. I feel like a mini expert after all of the work put into installing and troubleshooting the system alongside Irrigreens support team. If your thinking about it go for it!

As a professional sprinkler installer I decided to carry only 1” pipe and fittings for all my jobs. Other companies will carry 1/2-3/4-and 1”. To me running everything in 1” just makes more sense. The only issue was when I went to repair other peoples systems and they used smaller pipe, so thats where a hodgepodge of fittings and repair couplers came into play. So glad I quit irrigation and focused on fert!!!😂

Do these heads, or can they flow enough to make up for having 1 head where a traditional style system had multiple? Maybe less of an issue but if these don’t flow a lot I would think you’d have to run them a long time each given they cover such a large area each. This is only really a “problem” in specific situations but I thought it worth the ask.

Just one bone to pick, see it with most of the irrigreen videos. I won’t argue with the irrigreen sprinklers being the most efficient, gave a guy a quote to install yesterday and told him the same thing. But when you talk about getting double watering from your traditional heads, particularly if they are rotors or MP rotators, that isn’t true. They are designed for even watering based on appropriate spacing, but the overlap is what gets that more even coverage. The precipitation rate at 10’ vs 25‘ isn’t the same, so it’s not getting doubled up. If you have a single row spraying out off your driveway but not one spraying back toward the driveway, it’ll be much greener closer to the heads.

Hey! I just came upon your video as I'm looking into irrigreen after my DIY system is too weak to push water as my lawn needs (city--40psi--Rain Bird 6 head system--shoots one line from each head about 10 feet--sooo disappointed). Was this a DIY install and if so, did you have a plumber come out and do that plumbing aspect? Did you do a second water meter (I've heard you should do this). Thanks for an honest video--great looking lawn!

I’m on a well so it’s not really about cost savings from a water bill as much as ease of installation and a really cool concept. Also wondering do they put out enough water to keep things nice and green without running them forever? I have a lawn care company and in the past I’ve had properties with mp rotators and even though they say they save a lot of water I don’t think they did because we were always running them a lot longer than the traditional heads to keep places green. All that said just wanting to make sure it wouldn’t end up being a similar issue. Thanks for your feedback.

A pressure regulator will mitigate that if you're water pressure is high enough. However if the issue is the water pressure is dropping below 40psi you may need a booster pump. Irrigreen is tricky if you have a well. Constant 40/60psi cycling makes for very erratic spray patterns.

@@Lawncology when I used to install irrigation systems I charged a flat fee per zone of 600$ most houses needed 6 or 7 zones in my area 1 from yard 1 back yard 1 both sides of the house and then flower beds and then 600$ for the control module so about 3600-5000 for the whole system 0 loss I went to the builder on the site and I was at like 3k just for my front yard I’m sorry I just don’t see the value. If you spend the time to do the system properly it won’t waste any water and I’m not trying to argue with ya really just for me personally being able to install an irrigation system my self properly this just isn’t worth the monies

I am currently looking at getting an Irrigation system installed, does anyone know the cost of one of these systems? My lot size is just under a quarter acre. Thanks in advance.

I hate their website. It makes me draw the lawn and then I get a lump sum quote. They really don't show the cost of individual units or the cost breakdown. What if I want to add another unit and I already had the control box. Tried to email them. No response. Plus the don't have any distributers. I prefer to buy on Amazon to hold a seller accountable.

When I did the math for my home, the system cost about 25% more than the system I originally installed. However, manpower on install is greatly reduced, less pipe, less glue, blah blah blah, but then the water savings kick in. Based on the cost of water here, I will save about 250.00-350.00 annually. It doesn’t take long to have it become cash flow positive.
