I agree the original lamps were beautiful! No white shades for those lamps, either burlap, oatmeal, tan, etc. would look so much better with the green lamps and wood base :)
imo the white is to drastic of a contrast. The stark white doesn't 😂do much 4 em. I think a warmer color would look much better. Maybe take the lamp w/ u & play ard w/ different shades till u get the best look.
But when you are selling home furnishings and decor, your target customers are the ones *just* starting out. People in their 20's-30's, establishing their home. These people want what's trendy. They aren't interested in recreating the look of their parents home! Conversely, not many older people (who appreciate classic looks) are interested in ADDING decor.... Just the opposite, most are downsizing! You have to cater to your customer base! Customer base wants trendy.
😅I’m reading the comments… but I don’t know many people who would want this style lamp in their home… I clean houses for many people, and I think maybe two or three of my customers who are over 70 would love having the original style of these lamps. I understand they are name brand and worth a lot to some people, but if you don’t want shiny glossy green lamps, this new design is so much better! I think they look so good! But to each his own… but I’d love to see her do more lamp make overs for sure!❤
absolutely gorgeous before!!!!!! SOme things are precious and they were soooooo beautiful. I have been watching you and I have to tell you I love 98% of the things you flip and amazing! BUT this one was horrible, those were timeless and so classy.
I liked them the way they were, they looked like they may have been expensive. I have a dark green sofa with gold and burgundy, and dark green leather recliner they would have went perfect, when i saw you were going to paint them i couldn't watch 😥
I love the way you transformed these lamps. They were pretty originally but I think this new look will probably work well in almost any home. I also agree with you that the shade in an oatmeal/beige color would compliment it better especially if your walls are white! Good job!
Thank you for sharing your process on how to flip/upcycle an old lamp. I think they turned out great! After watching their transformation, I am now encouraged to try my own hand at upcycling mostly because of your fearless, can-do approach. Thank you for your time and content! P.S. Please keep up the great work and don't pay any mind to the naysayers in the comments.
Those turned out wonderful. I think people need to know how easy it is to upCycled a lamp. I’ve done it a number of times so that the lamp matches my decor. Thanks Lauren for all the wonderful ideas you share with us.
The lamps are beautiful! I agree the white shades are too bright. My suggestion is a natural linen look, adding some texture, but not quite as much as a burlap will add. Again, beautiful makeover,❤
I love how you went with the green vs black or white/tan. I have some thrifted vases I’ve been meaning to do this same method for updating. I vote oatmeal or burlap for the shades, too.😍
I love the after! The before looked super dated IMO. I think they’d look good in a particular style of home, but the after is so natural, textured & up to date! ❤ Oatmeal lamp shades for sure 😊
Nice job, I love the green. I think the oatmeal color that you mentioned would look really nice. I've found that Lowe's is a great place to get lamp shades. They have a really good selection, and the prices are very reasonable.
Love your transformation choice for the lamps. I don’t care for the shades; too much stark contrast with the color of the new lamp color. And maybe a different shape also. Thank you for inspiring. 😁
It was cool to see this technique from start to finish. I love watching your videos. I do think they could benefit from a second colour to make them less flat looking...and I agree with your thoughts on the lamp shades. Overall though, great transfer!
Did you Google image those? Because, I guarantee those were worth a lot more before. I can’t tell for sure through video, but it almost looks like mid century jade enamel. I can tell you that’s real brass, and real gold paint on those.
I came to the comments to see if anyone else thought they were MCM, I couldn't bring myself to watch those be painted. It would be different to paint cheap lamps or ones that where damaged, but those were so beautiful. 😢
I like the textured look of these lamps. I do feel the oatmeal color for the shades would tone the brightness down and would go well with the vignette and colors you chose. Thanks for the tutorial!
I bought a lampshade from Target that had an oatmeal kind of color and a linen type texture. I think something like that would favor these much better!
I like that you showed something new and different that many haven't thought of. I chuckle a bit when the lamps went from green to green😂. However, the texture added a unique element, that not only modernized it, but also made it a classic all at the same time. It made me think about Rome. The statues around the city. They are historical and beautiful. Different is much better! Thank you!
I like the green basis now, but I also liked it before. I do believe lampshade with a warmer tone to it in the white would be better different shape too. But nice job as always
I think they need an organic looking shade. Maybe a thatch look or woven look. Oatmeal color or a taupe color. Lamps turned out nice. I love your flips and your laid back vibes!
I think that non-white shades would be a better choice. I'm wondering how brittle the spackle might be over the long term. Will chunks break off? Also, if you use a damp cloth to clean the lamps, would that re-activate the spackle? I wonder if a top coat might help with both of those questions.
Those look awesome but I also thought that the original look was good! I think if the lampshades were burlap or more of a wood tone to match the wood base would be good. You are so talented...I love your way of teaching and your personality! You're such a sweetheart! ♥
The lamps look beautiful! I think tan or oatmeal would complement the green better. It's one of those things that you almost have to see it to be sure! I'm going to try this technique on my canisters for the kitchen. Wish me luck 🤞! Gorgeous color and the lamps are beautiful! 😊❤
Love this look. For the shades, I’d go with either antique white or oatmeal color. The style of the shades is great for those lamps. I would like them best if the white was all covered but they look good like you did them too!
Hi Lauren! I recently did the same with a lamp I purchased from Goodwill! I believe it needs an Empire style lamp shade in a taupe color. That will make the shade more proportional to the lamp and make it come down at the right spot for those lamps. I would use the original harp hardware that came with the lamps to mount the empire style shade. Hope that helps! Love how they turned out!
Interesting flip, nice looking, a textured/organic shade such as burlap (similar color to the frame of the art wrk) would look better. As many stated I liked the original lamps better but what you created is interesting too.
Gold lamp shades. Had you thought about decoupage to get the texture? No prep needed so very cheap because you can use any old tissue if you are painting over it.
Great flip! The original pattern was very outdated, and the new look compliments your cabinets and style. I agree the white shades are too stark with the surrounding colors, and a warmer tone would look better. Please post your final choice! 😃💚😁
First thought was that the whole lamp should’ve been plastered. Not just one paint colour. Perhaps blending in a get more warmer tones, beige, cream, some black even. Then maybe white, more cone shape top would match better. 🌸
I recently made the mistake of not priming a dark navy lamp before spraying it with a lighter colour. 🤦🏼♀️ I used a whole can of stone effect spray paint, lots of layers, trying to cover it. It’s only for myself so it’s fine, but I could still kinda see the darker background, even after all that paint. I won’t ever make that mistake again. 😆
Oat Meal! The lamp color is great . Nice job . Lamp shades are hard sometimes but I an Oat Meal or a little bit dark shade will look better. It's just me . Enjoyed the Video. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day! 😊
I liked them before but I like them now too. It’s just a matter of taste. But these now need a beige, oatmeal color shade, the white feels too stark for this new earthy look. Again just my opinion but they’re not going into MY living room,😊. Love that this teaches us alternative thinking! Great job and thanks for sharing this new method!
First of all. You are great in what you do. With the lamp shades I would do a wicker open braided oatmeal color. With that spackling, it’s giving me that kind of vibe. Now without spackling the white would be fine. I was right with you with the oatmeal color
I estimate about $60 to purchase everything for this DIY. I know you have a lot of materials on hand and will use the remaining materials on other projects. I found a similar lamp IKEA lamp for $65. IMHO that's a lot of time and effort to save $5. That being said they do look beautiful & are one of a kind creations. You did start by saying you couldn't necessarily make money flipping lamps. I vote for a natural-colored shade, not stark white, and a tad bit bigger/taller.
I say oatmeal or a soft color for the shade. All my lamps in my house are used ( market place and Goodwill, ect. ) and I give them a makeover. Lamps are expensive and purchasing second hand is so much fun. I research designer lamps and this gives me a direction of what used lamps to purchase. Lamps are generally very easy to take apart and put back together which would alleviate the need for masking and it also gives an easier way to finish different parts of the lamp in different ways.
@@FurnitureFlippingTeacher I like the organic look too! I would go with a warmer linen or light oatmeal, because of the wood base. I would try to get bigger lamp shades (maybe just changing the color will be enough).
I agree the original lamps were beautiful! No white shades for those lamps, either burlap, oatmeal, tan, etc. would look so much better with the green lamps and wood base :)
Burlap shade would work with texture and blend colorwise
I think burlap would work perfectly. You could try to find thrifted shades and cover them with burlap. I would also try a larger shade.
ahh yes, do you think that'd be too much texture tho?
@FurnitureFlippingTeacher maybe an oatmeal color, like you said, or a light brown to bring out the wood base.
imo the white is to drastic of a contrast. The stark white doesn't 😂do much 4 em. I think a warmer color would look much better. Maybe take the lamp w/ u & play ard w/ different shades till u get the best look.
The original lamps were timeless and beautiful! "Trendy" is here today and gone tomorrow!
Older was better

I understand you are teaching a new technique to update lamps but I loved the way they looked originally
its okay, we all have our own tastes, they weren't my style at first
Oatmeal color
Nooooo!!! Those green lamps were so beautiful!
I know, right? I loved them as they were.
I liked them too.
They matched my guest room perfectly.
they're still green! (;
@@FurnitureFlippingTeacherthey're fuggly😢.
she said i never seen this shape in green so painting it green.. weren't they green before? lol

The originals were pretty amazing! Darn.
I can't believe so many people liked the original lamps!! My Mother in law had these same lamps on the late 80s & 90s!!!😂
Exactly
Pretty is pretty regardless of what year they were created.
Your taste is not necessarily the same as other people. Like others, I find the before a lot better than the after.
She might love this but this is not timeless.
😢
Original lamps are elegant. I like elegant.
The originals were gorgeous
White Looks Good but I think the Oatmeal color would look good too
i agree! i guess i may need to see them in the space with other decor etc
the white shades blend in with the white wall
I believe you are right a more warm tone. Great job.
thanks!

To me the original were hideous. To each their own.
Interesting project. I'm glad you like it. I actually prefer the lamps before. The wood at the bottom looks nice. 😊
i do like them (: thanks for watching
Lauren, since you are going to keep them for your personal decor and you like them thats all that matters.Good job. I love them.
Love the lamps! And I agree that an oatmeal color would work great with them.
sweet, thank you!
I HAVE painted thrift stores lamps! DEFINATELY worth the work.

yes switch out those shades. Maybe diy them also. Somebody said burlap and that look would be wonderful as long as its not too dark.
Yep, I agree, a warmer tone--especially with the wood base. I liked the lamps before and after!
thanks so much for the input!

❤I love these! I just think you need the oatmeal color shade! But WOW!!… these are beautiful! Maybe you should flip lamps too! Awesome job!!👏🏼🫶🏼👏🏼
I think a little darker shade with the green and wood. ❤❤
I’m going to do this with 2 lamps I found at Goodwill. Thanks for showing me how! For yours, oatmeal shades for sure, warmer and more organic.

THEY LOOK VERY NICE DONE OVER AND DO NEED AN OATMEAL COLOR SHADE, THE WHITE IS JUST A BIT MUCH FOR ME

Oatmeal for sure. Thank you for this video. The lamps are now more modern. Great job!!
My opinion is to replace the white shads to a linen wheat or light grey shade.
Love the lamps! I would use a creamier color. Oatmeal is good but something to compliment the wood element. Nice flip!
I think that non-white shades would be a better choice. I'm wondering how brittle the spackle might be over the long term. Will chunks break off? Also, if you use a damp cloth to clean the lamps, would that re-activate the spackle? I wonder if a top coat might help with both of those questions.
I would have left the brass unpainted… but like the idea of spackle and paint on the body!
Same and the wood at the very top I think.
hmmm, it may have been too many colors for my liking 😅 glad you enjoyed!
the lamps look amazing, but the first thing that caught my eye was the lamp shade. I think a warmer, textured shade.
Liked them before, like them now. Two different styles, both pretty. :) I agree that something like an oatmeal shade would be a better match.
Lauren, they were green to start with. I understand they may not have been too modern, so yes texture them, but not green again. Love your videos.
Love the new look. But I’d go with a warm tone shade

Gold lamp shades. Had you thought about decoupage to get the texture? No prep needed so very cheap because you can use any old tissue if you are painting over it.
Oh, I would go with a large print matching fabric🤗
I love these as the way they looked before was a bit old style and now I believe they will look good in many more homes with the modern styling ❤
I love them after, they are much more modern. What about a patterned lamp shade? They are more pricey but there are some pretty ones out there.
I like the new look much better, the original was outdated. I would go with a warmer color on the shades. Cream or tan.
You did a great job but they were really pretty in their original form. Maybe I am just into original design!
Great flip! The original pattern was very outdated, and the new look compliments your cabinets and style. I agree the white shades are too stark with the surrounding colors, and a warmer tone would look better. Please post your final choice! 😃💚😁
Not white. I like the idea of an oatmeal color, too! Be sure to show us if you change the lamp shade.
I feel like the shades need a outdoor pattern, leaves maybe. I like what you did with the lamps.
great job - i think beige shades would work
Cool update. Don't like the white shades. Go with a little warmer color. 😊
On the shade, I would go with a burlap oatmeal, beige color- matches the texture of the base. However, that may cost you a lot. Great job!
i think that would still be cheaper than buying new! i'm still on the hunt!
I love the finish on these but I agree that the white shades are too “cool” toned. A warmer beige/oatmeal would finish them off beautifully.
What a fun video! Thank you for always keeping us informed and inspired!!! You are just adorable and talented. ❤😊
Thank you so much!
I think a warmer shade for the lampshade. This is a nice treatment for lamps. I will try it for my house.

Shades should be beige, to complement the wood base, I think.
Love love the lamps however. The white shade would ok better in a brown or burlap to match the base. I'm 100% going to give this a try😊
Great makeover AGAIN!!!!!! ! I’m with you… I like the white, but I think a warmer tone would go better with the green😁
First of all. You are great in what you do. With the lamp shades I would do a wicker open braided oatmeal color.
With that spackling, it’s giving me that kind of vibe. Now without spackling the white would be fine. I was right with you with the oatmeal color
thank you for the ideas!

they were neat! i love the organic look!

@@FurnitureFlippingTeacher I like the organic look too! I would go with a warmer linen or light oatmeal, because of the wood base. I would try to get bigger lamp shades (maybe just changing the color will be enough).
You could also see if you could find some fabric to match the color and wrap that around the shades
So did I, they were expensive looking before the flip.
I think a burlap or as you suggested, oatmeal would compliment the more organic/natural almost pottery-like bases. Excellent job!
I think the lampshades need a little color and yes I would give this a shot!!!!
I love the lamps! before and after!
I think the bright white lamp shades aren't right
