Mr. Justice Westwood's closing remarks to the jury contrast sharply with the practice of government lawfare and over-zealous, if not corrupt, prosecutions. "You are a most honest judge! A Daniel!" 😊
Great show. As non-Briton I wonder if the judges in the UK judicial system are sensible, perceptive and moderate as those in every episode this marvelous show. These judges are inspirational.
Simply outstanding! Remember missing school to watch these at lunchtimes (Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays in the Thames tv region if my memory serves me right)!
Thank you for uploading so many episodes of this great program from Canada. The actors are excellent, many were famous then, or later on. I'm always waiting for another Rumpole actor to be in another episode. So far, I've noticed Jim Norton, who was the 1st private eye Rumpole used (in a different episode).
I am always greatly impressed by the actor playing the defence council, he is so convincing as a barrister. With a moustache he definitely has the look of Sean Connery.
I was so sure I saw a young Kenny Ireland, front left on jury, but the fact he wasn't the foreman, perhaps not. Great episode(s) all the same. The whole series is very addictive, thanks so much for sharing.
A pair of Jon Pertwee Dr Who guest stars: Morris Perry (Colony In Space) & Edwin Richfield (The Sea Devils). Richfield was clearly preparing himself in this Crown Court story for playing a giant slug in Colin Baker's Dr Who debut The Twin Dilemma. Director Matthew Robinson later directed Dr Who, too. All this and Jack Dukworth!
Mrs Thatcher gets a mention 3 years before she became PM. This programme serves as an interesting social document on changing attitudes, plus a chance to see future household names.
Also Peter Dudley, who played Bert Tilsley in the Street around this time (Gail's father-in-law, Nick's grandad). The Duckworths and the Tilsleys were great friends on the Street too.
This tv series is really interesting. Thank you for uploading, Jez! But, I'll be honest...I will never get used to those wigs. For people growing up in the UK, do you find the wigs at all unusual? Or are you used to it because it's something you grew up with? I wonder if they will still be wearing these wigs 100, 200...years from now.
I thought it meant the judge realized that the prosecuting QC was not one of the old boys network, as the defense barrister clearly was. Those two despised the plaintiff
As much as this is fictional, the element of truth is that if you give a dog a bad name it will stick. So, any crime that you look like you might have committed, the policeman who is lazy or corrupt or both is likely to look at you to blame you for it. What puzzles me is how a policeman, who is supposed to have an intelligence higher than most of the people he's after, thinks for one minute that blaming the wrong person for a crime (regardless of how serious the crime is), is acceptable. Not to mention that by deliberately, falsely accusing someone, the real culprit goes free and therefore commits further crimes and in the wake of it, causes the said policeman more work.
listen to this with a few other webpages open or songs or someone talking etc and it sounds really funny (extremely funny!!!!) it does it really does..... see what u think??............
The background of the script by NEMONE LETHERBRIDGE is interesting: it is inspired partly by her own story. See: www.bfi.org.uk/films-tv-people/4ce2b9f39e380 and especially: www.telegraph.co.uk/news/obituaries/1358481/Jimmy-OConnor.html
Excellent judge, excellent verdict, excellent episode! Thanks Jez

He was Jack Regan's Commander in the Sweeney too.
Great show. As non-Briton I wonder if the judges in the UK judicial system are sensible, perceptive and moderate as those in every episode this marvelous show. These judges are inspirational.
2nd time round, still fresh and crackling! Fine script! Thank you!
This verdict was very satisfying. Thanks for uploading these, Jezza! I'm addicted to them, though!

Jack Duckworth kept very quiet LOL Great upload
So did my Dad, on the jury …
You can't beat a bit of crown court great series
Excellent ending, excellent episode, many thanks again:)
I love playing 'Spot the famous actor'
Written by Nemone Lethbridge - one of Britain's first female barristers, who once defended the Kray twins in court.
That's interesting to know. This series definitely has many great actors as well.
You ARE very knowledgeable...
Hehe - good to see Bill Tarmy. Liz Dawn appeared as a witness in one of the episodes too.
I am always greatly impressed by the actor playing the defence council, he is so convincing as a barrister. With a moustache he definitely has the look of Sean Connery.
I thought that, in fact I thought it was him at first.
Charles Keating, an Anglo-Canadian actor I believe. He often appeared as a QC in this series.
That last witness was straight out of a dickens book....brilliant acting.
Excellent - a great story! Many thanks for the upload.
Off sick from school in the 70's..
I was so sure I saw a young Kenny Ireland, front left on jury, but the fact he wasn't the foreman, perhaps not. Great episode(s) all the same. The whole series is very addictive, thanks so much for sharing.
The jury are members of the general public so it's unlikely
William Blackstone's maxim was used so effectively.
This was such a good episode
Some really quality actors in this series.

Of course, I thought I recognised the man at the back! Jack Duckworth.
Me and a mate love spotting actors who have been in DW and Crown Court. There are loads.
Love Crown Court! Though I'm not sure why a Civil case would be brought in the Crown Court, as it is criminal court, but we can overlook that!
Albert Charlton's voice is like something from the grave!
He sounded like a right proper Dickens villain.
He'd have made a marvellous Sykes. @@kronsteen9093
Nice one Jez. Very much appreciated.
One of my favourite actors Edwin Richfield as Latcham
Thank you Jez.
Morris Perry was great in The Sweeney "I'm trying to save the squad, not your neck".
Excellent!
Very good🙂
NICE ONE!!£50 quid a week wages??God it must have been cheap when I was 7 years old.
Cheap in this day and age - but expensive in the day
The claimants lawyer looks like he should be in a punk rock band :P
thanks jezz.
Wow, amazing verdict. Justice will be done, even if it takrs YEARS just ask the Hillsborough families.
Did I just see Jack Duckworth?
I saw 'Vera Duckworth' in an earlier episode of Crown Court as a female dock officer
Skinhead_Ged maybe that's where they met lol
Vera Duckworth, or rather Liz Dawn, appears in "Evil Liver"! :)
Also Peter Dudley, who played Bert Tilsley in the Street around this time (Gail's father-in-law, Nick's grandad). The Duckworths and the Tilsleys were great friends on the Street too.
And Wycliffe!
Funny how a cockney ended up at Fulchester.....every episode it's Fulchester. Love it
Apparently there is one episode was a crime at toxton . Case 50 treason
There would be legal implications of using the name of an official crown court, so that bit has to be fictionalised.
Really good acting from Healey.
Well done jury!
Thks Jz.
This tv series is really interesting. Thank you for uploading, Jez!

Personally, I'm just used to the idea. I think it's a nice tradition.
It adds solemnity to proceedings and also makes the barrister anonymous
It is odd to outsiders, no doubt. But it's just part of court attire. Only warn in criminal trials, of course.
I suppose we grew up aware of it so it's normal in that sense, but it's not as if most people ever see the inside of a real criminal court.
Charlie Wycliffe acting for the plaintiff lol
I was trying to remember the actor's name, thanks
@@bodnica The actor's name is Jack Shepherd, he played the part of Wycliffe.
YES!!!!!! 💯
Theres a lot of shit going on in Fulchester ...
Frustrating can't they restrict ads to points in the program intended
Interesting to see Charles Keating as a barrister.
He's in many Crown Court stories, mainly the early ones with a few later appearances, always excellent.
Justice was done .
The look between the judge and QC when they mentioned civil liberties or something similar, what was that about?
I thought it meant the judge realized that the prosecuting QC was not one of the old boys network, as the defense barrister clearly was. Those two despised the plaintiff
Too many ads. Great episode though
There weren’t any ads on mine
Oh interesting case.... How to choose who may really be the one lying?
That sounds like Holly from Red Dwarf.
he looks like a flat fish he does a flat fish!!!!! with a moustache!!!!
Strange to see Deirdre Costello play the dowdy wife, she usually appears as the sexy 'bit on the side'.
Turning Queens evidence means you are forgiving a criminal and relying on his evidence in court. It stinks.

Hence why many legal systems look to discourage the police attempting to "round up the usual suspects"
there was a bang crash wallop!!!!
Darren Nicholls. Essex boys 1995
my fantasy is to be JUDGE in a court for only one day.

He wears earing cool in 1976

Josemjkno thank you, I love reading about the background to the beginings of these stories, this one is truly fascinating.
Glad you appreciated! Isn't life very often more fascinating than fiction?
