Not to be a Marine mechanic you done real good.. seriously... a couple things when installing the water pump, as you finally put the impeller and the key with the o-ring.. to install the pump housing simply push it down while turning the shaft clock ways.. easy peasy! Then installing the lower unit with the prop already installed and the unit in gear , turn the prop as u lift into place.. 3rdly I would have checked my work with a pressure test. And lastly , don't give the gear lube one last pump! You add pressure then you get the squirt on the ground when you unscrew the pump.. other than that ,,Great job!!

i did the lower end and upgraded my fuel system for my 40hp with your help thanks. i have a ouestion my motor surges or chugs at mid rpm sometimes. Then run good. Then starts it again. it seem to run good when it wants to. i did your setup vid. do you have any ideas. I thank you again. Great videos.
Next time use a large zip tie to compress the impeller. once ou have the housing haf way down clip the zip tie. PRESTO
Or do it the easiest way and put the impeller on shaft and while pushing down on housing rotate shaft clockwise.
@@John-jc1ig the issue with that is that tends to pop the 0-ring from the impeller housing out of place. some sealer 1000 and an hour of drying time cures that, but sometimes its a pain
Brandon...I am working on my 1969 33hp that has sat neglected many years and was not pumping water.Pulled lower and checked impeller.Found fins rotated wrong way,but impeller seemed very plyable still.I also put a hose on copper tube to try and flush motor and water is squirting out a small hole in tube just above brass shift linkage connection. Is that hole supposed to be there?Also,nothing coming out the hole on rear of leg where I see it does on videos any help is appreciated...

Thanks for a great video. I ran aground with our boat last summer. And the spoon went off. Everything became so much easier to fix the engine after I saw your video. Now I have a question regarding the VRO system. If I disconnect VRO: Do I have to have a fuel pump? // Robert (Sweden)
You can use the existing pump on there if it still works. Just cap off the oil line so air doesn’t/water/debris doesn’t get in and unplug the alarms for the low oil and no oil.

putting a water pump in my 40 Hp. Evinrude E40TLECR what i have seen on some muddles there is a o ring under the pump . i haven`t seen one on mine or one in the kit that would fit . did that meddle not have one ????
Hi, Hey great clip, I put a full water pump kit in my 60hp because I have a problem I'm hoping you might help me with. Dum ass forgot to remove the water muffs before going out so the engine went in safe mode and even after water pump replacement still once it's warmed up it goes back into safe mode. Any ideas what I can do? I live on an Island 1000km from anywhere so no dealers and they won't help over the phone. Would appreciate any suggestions. Cheers

It has faded to match the rest of the motor.
And really, it matches nearly perfectly. If I didnt know I painted it, I would never be able to tell.

its all in the factory service manual. something like 580mm
I use electrician's thumb gum inside sockets to retain bolt and as a filler.
Does this motor have power trim
at 5:19 in your vid, there's an oil seal at Drive Shaft Bearing Housing. Can I replace the seal without taking the housing apart?

Very nice job watched part one as well, isn't there any seal between the lower unit and the motor housing? I just hooked up a water hose and first time started a joshnson fifty tiller and water leaks between the lower unit and where it bolts to? it does have a nice pee stream when started but that extra water leaking out has me worried.
its called a "split line relief" to prevent corrosion. so yes, there is supposed to be water dribbling out. its a wet exhaust and needs to cool it, thus water just falls down.
Makes sense to paint it after a water pump job . Then you roughly know when you did the impeller.
Maybe the guy who found the impeller the opposite way was just trying to get a little more life out of his impeller.

I have a 1994 Johnson 50hp. When installing the new impeller, the new kit has the drive shaft o ring. After installing the drive shaft turns stiff, is this normal because of the o ring under the drive shaft.
It's going to be stiff because of the new parts.

Awesome videos. I’ve got a similar motor and I’m finding that the exhaust is sometimes not coming through the propeller, but rather through two ports closer to the power head. Any ideas what may cause this?
When lower unit is in drive it pulls the exhaust out the propeller with pressure.
Push the housing down as you turn the driveshaft .

Hi Brandon , thanks for the video. Just finished doing my 50hp which is same set-up. Listen, I’m confused about that o-ring that sits in the bottom of the impeller. The one I took out (old impeller) had an o-ring buried in the bottom recess but the new impeller has no such recess so o-ring doesn’t seem to really fit or be necessary. Have you come across this? Do some set-ups simply omit the o-ring?
Yes, I have see that.
However, did you buy an OEM kit? Also, did It come with the O-ring? And, did you look for the O-ring are on both side of the impeller?
@@BrandonsGarage that’s a good point. The kit was not OEM it was Sierra and it did NOT come with the ring. I ordered that separately.
permatex 2 work for o rings ?
Zip tie the impeller then drop cap on
Next time you do it put the O-ring holding the key way in and then slide the whole housing with the impeller in it down
