it's a common trope in battle shonen shows to show how big of a gap the main characters have to face to reach the top level. When characters like Giyu show up, it's always safe to assume they're miles ahead of everyone in the area lol. The two hashiras coming here serve the storytelling purpose to show how weak Tanjiro and his friends still are and to set up the power differences among the Twelve Kizukis, that way when the big guns get involved you have a rough idea of their potential in comparison to the Demon Slayers!
To answer Adam's question, it's more likely that each slash of sword or certain form meant to cut something in certain way/angle so when the other force crom from different trajectory, it'll broke the sword's force. That's why the tree wasn't cut. Ugh Idk how to word it.
I think the 10th form was interrupted mid-way. IMO

@kamson8172 the word you’re looking for is ‘edge alignment’. You want the edge of the sword inline with the angle of the arm swing but perpendicular to the surface you’re striking. If the blade is angled when it strikes it increases the chance of breaking or just not cutting. It’s supposedly (from what I’ve heard) one of those things that seems easy and simple but much harder in reality in the chaos and movement of a real fight.

My husband is from Shimane Prefecture in Japan (I’m American & we live in California now), and since we got together 11 years ago, we watch a lot of anime (partly to help me with Japanese, since he is a terrible teacher 😂). He found Sarah’s channel awhile back, her first time through Haikyuu, and we’ve been fans of yours since -especially the joint reactions. I want to give you a HUGE thank-you for reinforcing everything I’ve tried to tell him about why Westerners love anime. He was astonished to see what a global phenomenon it’s become 😮, and when I tried to explain-for example-the unpredictability of the plots, plus the magnificent character development and the empathy anime forces on you, even for characters you start out DETESTING with every cell of your being, it didn’t compute. Now it finally does, thanks largely to your channel!

The word they use for "forged" in Japanese is "偽者" which can be translated to mean fake or counterfeit like you said which is why the demon took it as a bad thing
Adam referencing Adamantium is funniest thing in video cause Sarah was looking at him like "Adam what now?" it made me think "Sarahmantium" vs "Adamantium" XD

I'm not sure if someone already mentioned this, but Inosuke somehow cannot get Tanjiro's name right. According to the author, he only gets it right once out of every seven times... 🥹🫶🏻
I'll say it again here, Adam's Zenitsu pronounciation isn't any worse than Sarah's😂

I'm not an expert, but my understanding is that Adam's vowel sound on the i in Zenitsu is correct (ee) but overemphasized and Sarah has the correct emphasis on that syllable but the wrong vowel sound (even if it's barely there)
The difference is Sarah seems to correctly distinguish the sounds of the kana. She reads it as ぜんいつ instead of ぜにつ (or worse, ぜにーつ) which is how Adam and a lot of other non-Japanese speakers tend to pronounce it
Fun fact for Sarah : Shinobu (the butterfly girl) has the same voice actress as Yor from SpyxFamily!
- I've always thought of it as Tanjiro getting interrupted while he was "charging" up the 10th form. That's why it wasn't able to cut through the tree.
- I was also extremely stressed the first time I watched Inosuke being crushed by the Father. Had me stress pressing my hands into my forehead just like Sarah!!
- Inosuke's reaction to Giyuu slicing Father is going to be very on brand for him XD He's silly like that, but we love him for it.
Also since Shinobu and Giyu are my two favourites I feel the need to defend their friendship! They DO like each other. It's not shown in depth in the anime, but Shinobu likes to tease Giyuu as a way of trying to draw him out of his aloof and anti-social tendencies. Giyuu can easily ignore a "normal" social interaction, but annoy him enough with your persistence or prod and poke at him (the way Shinbobu knows how) and he WILL respond. Shinobu teases him again in a couple of episodes from this one and a lot of the audience took it as her being mean and made people think they don't like each other, but I always took it as her teasing him the way you would with a good friend and it's what sold me on their bond. A lot of their relationship is shown more in the fun little extras and non-anime material.
In the 2nd Official Fanbook, we get these really cute sections where we get to see what the Hashira think of each other. Another Hashira named Gyomei notes that while Giyuu is normally quiet and gloomy, he seems to enjoy chatting with Shinobu - which is kind of a big deal since Giyuu is always so distant and reserved with others. All the other Hashiras' descriptions of Giyuu boil down to either : he always looks sad and/or he's very quiet and aloof when spoken to. They rank his level of openness at 30% (lol!). In Giyuu's section, he respects Shinobu's dedication as a Hashira, but shows concern about her paleness from working too hard and in Shinobu's section, she wishes that Giyuu would talk more (lol!!!). I would argue that of all the Hashira (and frankly the entire corps), Shinobu is the closest to him at this point in time.
All in all, the story moves quite fast and while a lot of people appreciate the fast pace, sometimes it leaves no room for some of the smaller, seemingly unimportant stuff like character relationships to have a chance to be more fleshed out. Anyways sorry for the essay, but clearly my compulsion to talk about Shinobu and Giyuu took over lol!

Was expecting their reaction to seeing that lady in Inosuke’s vision be more talked about. They love backstory and that’s a pretty good potential back story talking point.

Do not forget the sword cut needs to happen in a particular part of the tragetory to be optimal, one way to parry a sword strike it to intercept it at the beginning of its trajectory. Particularly the katana best cut it is the rounded part of its tip, it is this part one aim to hit the opponent for the cut.
When you hit a spike in volleyball, if the point of impact is off, you won't be able to use your full power, right? Similarly, a sword has a proper position to cut.
To answer Adams’s question- yes the stength of the sword is usually linked to how powerful someone is.
Soon enough you will understand more about the Demon Slayer corps and why Giyu and Shinobu (the butterfly lady) are a bit different from the three rookies that are Inosuke, Zenitsu and Tanjirō

@10:00 I could be making stuff up, but because he didn't get a full swing through, that's why he wasn't able to cut through the tree. Basically the demon stopped Tanjiro mid swing.
I love that Sarah had to cover her face. This bodes well for the rest of the show. S1 is such a phenomenal season it just gets better.

Surprisingly nobody told you yet, but isn’t the moon pretty today as shinobu (butterfly girl) told giyuu is a Japanese way of indirectly confessing your love.
Zenitsu's name is pronounced as Zen(ぜん) - itsu(いつ) separately. There's no "ni" (に) character in his name, so it shouldn't be pronounced. Just Zen'itsu 😄

you swing differently when you trying to chop a tree and when you try to slice the neck, neck is smaller area so you need precision over brute strength (but you also need lot of strength otherwise it simply wont cut through). And you swing in a way that makes the impact most effective. By moving the target closer or farther away your power drops

Tanjiro was making money too. The lowest rank of the Demon Slayer Corp makes what would be roughly $160 a month if translated from Yen to the USD. But when you consider this is during the Taisho era of Japan. Looking into currency conversion of that era to today, that would be about 5k in the lowest rank of Demon Slayer corp.

I love how we can see the difference in the energy of Giyu and Tanjiro, especially in how they use their breathing. Giyu, the master, is calm and cool and collected, while Tanjiro is super energetic in its uses, really shows what mastering it might take. With high energy Zenitsu being lighting and wild Innouske being beast it really shows that breathing styles might need to line up with people to work really well.

Thank you for this video! Just wanted to offer an opinion about the different forms of the sword technique. The different forms do not necessarily have to be more powerful than another. They are just different applications of the water breathing for different battle situations.

You are getting better with each episode with the theories and questions. Forged bond is used like forced, they trying to create a bond but lack everything that nuture the bond, trust, love, etc.
Small recommendetion: next episode try not to make much stop
Its about the sword quality in part probably - they are low ranked so I doubt they got the most masterfully crafted blades - doubt anyone spent a lot of time on a blade of the lowest ranks. The other thing is that with how rookie they are, they probably slash at an imperfect angles - good enough to get the job done but Katanas are really fragile to pressure from the right direction so if its slightly off it can be snapped.

I think this episode intended "forged bond" to be ambiguous. Tanjiro, Inosuke, and Zenitsu have a forged bond, meaning a strong connection. But the demon family has a forged bond, meaning it's a forgery. That's my opinion at least.

You should really watch attack on titan. It is arguably the greatest fictional show of all time; yes, even if you put it against game of thrones and the like, when you look at the ratings and the hype it got, it is literally arguable. You should really watch it, it is a breathe of fresh air and so different from shows like haikyu and demon slayer.
