      Coaching isn't for everybody. You can be a great teacher and simply not get any joy out of it. Its also tough on the body, which I think most people who've never coached gymnastics might not be aware of. You're still using a lot of strength and flexibility when you're spotting, its easy to strain muscles, especially when your gymnasts are doing new skills and you have to give a heavy spot. There's also the part of spotting where you have to dodge flying limbs so as not to get kicked/punched/headbutted. A former coach of mine had her jaw broken by an 8 year old girl who was learning a mill circle on bars cause she wasn't able to dodge the girl's crazy legs while spotting her. With proper technique it's less likely to happen, but especially when teaching more foundational skills like back handsprings- I think most coaches end up getting kicked or smacked at least a couple times during their career.
      Personally I quit coaching because I felt I wasn't able to be authoritative enough to properly maintain control over the rowdy kids. Its straight up dangerous to lose control of a kid or multiple kids in a gym, and one coach can only do so much to prevent accidents. I love gymnastics and I love teaching, but the classroom management aspect stressed me out a lot. Some kids really just dont seem to respond to stern talking to's and time outs. I preferred working with older more experienced gymnasts but as a small woman it was much harder for me to safely spot them. After a while the aches, bruises, and stress of coaching outweighed the joy I got from being in the gym and teaching. Perhaps Ash has had similar experiences? 🤷‍♀

    I'm trying to work out why the boys aren't screaming with more excitement and amazement when he manages all these new skills 😂 like is it one of those that as soon as the camera goes off they all scream and are like "YEEESSSSSSSSSS!!" ? 😂 like why they so chill lol

      Your witnessing how elite gymnasts encourage each other when learning and achieving 6 skills in 1 lesson. If Nile had struggled for weeks, and needed lots of coaching from them, they probably would have gotten ecstatic when he completed the skill. Just like they all did when Ashley made his Guinness World record.

    This month will be one year of gymnastics training for me. I did it as a kid and restarted at 32. It has been such a fun and rewarding experience! I'm in the best shape of my life because even though I only get to train twice a week, I have goals that motivate me to work on getting stronger between classes. Highly recommend checking out an adult class if you are fortunate enough to be near a gym that offers them!

    • @AlexLifts1210

      Good luck with it, I've always been in the gym but purely for weight lifting only, my daughter does gymnastics to a semi high level and it's pushed me to try it myself so I'm the same this year is the year of gymnastics training. I'm going to do Ash's get fit gymnastics guide 👍🏻

    Well done, you make these skills look easy 🥰 I know your Olympic journey is very different to anything I've experienced, but as someone who has had chronic health problems for almost two decades now I really resonate with the "I'm getting old" and "back in the day, when I was fit as a fiddle" - I used to be able to run around a 400m track at school without a care in the world, now I ache because I've done the grocery shopping 🤣😂 Just remember that you still have plenty of life left to live, even if it looks a bit different now 💖

    • @michellec6336
      @michellec6336 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've heard the guys say in Leeds a back flip is equivalent to what we in the US say as back handspring. And I think they call a full what we call a back layout.

    • @wozziesgirl
      @wozziesgirl ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A backflip is what gymnasts in the the UK and Australia, and probably other English speaking nations, call a flic. The US of backflip to refer to somersaults is kind of excruciating. Especially from a trampoline perspective. Usually when you talk about flipping something over you are talking about turning it by applying a vertical force at a horizontal distance from the centre of the mass, which is the mechanics of a flic, but not of a somersault.

    • @wozziesgirl
      @wozziesgirl ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@michellec6336 A full is a full-twisting back somersault, a back layout is still a back somersault in a laid out position.
