@@katekramer7679 neuroplasticity in stroke patients is where I mostly learned it... stroke patients often have to relearn tasks with a non dominant side and scientists started realising the results of neuroplasticity (brain remapping/rewiring after damage with intensive rehab/focused and specific training) was useful for non stroke people ans also research has now been applied to dementia - hence the focus on "brain training" games and specifically focusing on problem solving, puzzles, memory recall tasks to help stave off dementia. The brain is like any muscle, you can train it to be stronger - just looks up the principles of neuroplasticity and as long as the training you're doing follows those rules (specific, increases in difficulty, doing a certain amount of repetitions etc) it will grow new neural connections and strengthen weak ones. We see many people with stroke who are VERY dominant handed which makes it more difficult and takes longer to recruit the opposite side under control... other people who have played sport thst required them to be more ambidextrous for example (like dribbling basketball with both hands equally) will do better learning to use their non-dominant hand for tasks because thr pathways has already been created and prioer muscle memory the brain can try to revert to. In regular people, it's always good to do something once a day with your non dominant hand/side - even just for 5-10 mins to make your brain engage in the activity and create pathways instead of using automatic programmed sequences you dominant hand already knows... also it's just fun :)

I am a diehard leftie through and through. I twisted left, pirouetted to the left, circled counter clockwise on PH and dismounted to the left. The only skills I turned right on was doing half turns and blind changes on high bar. I was learning how to do half turns on my left arm for a while, but my coach thought it was better to do it on the right arm as it would feel more intuitive when it came to learning pirouette 1/1 and Rybalko later on. For a while I was proficient at doing half turns on both arms, but I eventually started favouring turning on my right arm.

As a non-gymnast it never really occurred to me that a gymnast would bias toward doing a skill in one direction and it's mostly fine because they just won't do it in a competition the other way. It makes sense, because analogously in something thag I do know about, skateboarding, people have the same issue where it is easier to do a trick one way than the other. But in skateboarding, doing tricks the wrong way (aka switch) is actually something that people do consider when deciding how much they respect another skater's abilities, and is also used in competition scoring. I wonder how much of that switch culture exists in gymnastics.

Dunno who the female is (I don't mean that in a petty way whatsoever as I don't follow gymnastics, I just love what y'all do on this channel), but since she has worked for it and it's exactly the type of apparatus I always wanted; I have to give her the compliment and say "She has a beautiful booty!" I don't mean that in a creepy way and though I can't control how she interpretation or takes the comment, I felt it was important to give props for something that all woman want to perfect, have an issue with and are so greatly varying in opinion about, these days. Some people feel the bigger the better, even in profane proportions like Nicki Minaj, while others like tiny little things. I am of the opinion that a bootiful female derriere is a thing one must work extremely hard to obtain in balance with their bodies femininity and muscle, and her's is damn near perfect (only bc nothing is perfect), so...
