    The clip might bother people. It's amazing all the things that bother people. One reviewer was complaining that the stub on the knife was hurting him (?) A big thing seems to be, it has to be one hand opening - what are they? Gunslingers?? Would wonder do they actually use these things or hang them up on a wall in a presentation box.

      I agree sometimes little things can be nitpicked about multi tools. Fortunately there are so many good multi tools out there it is getting harder to differentiate between them, so sometimes small things become bigger issues.
      Ironically, assisted technology whether plier or knife based doesn't seem popular but the market does demand more outside opening tools. I find myself really liking outside tools as well!

      Your reviews are balanced and focus on the plusses while mentioning the negatives. Caveat emptor and all that. Some of these reviewers should stick to the only tool they ever used in their lives (!)

      Well I admit there isn’t THAT many situations where you need one handed deployment, but sometimes it is very nice when you’re holding something especially in awkward positions or when getting your other hand free isn’t convenient (like for instance you just wrangled out a mess of wires that took two hands and realize you need to cut a zip tie to free them). There’s also a bit of a safety aspect to it, unlikely as it is maybe one hand gets caught in some rope or strapping and you need to quickly cut it.
      Plus it’s more just a “nice to use” thing, being able to just blindly pull a blade out and flick it open in less than a second is just nice, as opposed to pulling it out, looking at it to find the nail nick, using two hands and pulling it open.

    Why anyone is still carrying a pocket knife around, I don't know. For dressing game, fileting fish or tanning a hyde yes a folding or fixed blade is still a good carry but besides that, I think a pocket knife is a total bust. I'm a traditionalist and old fashioned but I love my multitools!

      I understand. I actually hear of many people who carry both. I just carry a multi tool but I know the steel used on many dedicated knives is better. I'm with you though, I love multi tools that cut down on the pocket tools needed.

      As Hvac budget says the steel is often better on a dedicated knife, but also the ergos are far better if you are doing serious work with a knife. A lot of people just consider the blade on their multitool as a backup.

      @@simonh6371 I can appreciate that. I don't hunt anymore, I used to carry a Camillus version of the Buck 110 folding hunter and the Buck 110 itself. I'm 35 years old and as a kid, I was never introduced to multitools, a couple of Swiss Army Knives was it. I didn't have a multitool until I was in my early 20's, the Leatherman Kick was my first real, full sized plier based multitool.

    I bet the handle was bent by dropping the tool. It would be vulnerable due to the way it sticks out when new. Thanks for the vid.

      Probably so. SOG seems to have tried to fix some issues in the new FlashMT. Thanks for watching!

    Talking about multitools and knives in general, I do understand the desire for one handed opening and locking blades - I'm in the UK btw so I can't EDC a locking blade but I can EDC a one-handed opener (provided it doesn't lock) - but when it comes to automatic opening blades I just don't get it. Firstly there are more working parts to go wrong, secondly if that does happen in your pocket you risk slicing your family jewels, and thirdly a guy shouldn't really find it a big struggle to open a blade manually. I like the fact that Leatherman have not gone down this route with any of their multitools/knives, it just seems unneccessarily gimmicky to me. Otherwise I do like SOG for the fact that they incorporate other innovative features in their multitools, such as the bit driver being between the back of the plier jaws and so on.

      i will only carry assisted knives anymore. the convience of not needing to flick my wrist or really manipulate my hand while up a shakey ladder is super convienent to me. now, i get that thats not important for everyone, but in my mind its more than just a gimmick. having said that, i EDC this multi tool and the knife on it is pretty terrible.

    • @simonh6371
      @simonh6371 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BFitch70 You shouldn't really have to flick your wrist with a knife with a thumbstud or hole in the blade a la Spyderco though.

      I think the spring assist is a bit gimmicky but that is also probably why people like it. For me it's almost like an adult fidget factor just like flicking out the Leatherman Free P series multi-tools. I agree it is another part that can break. In the SOG Reactor as well as the FlashMT they do have a lock so it doesn't operate surgery as you mentioned. For serious work though I use my Surge etc.
      In the UK, just curious what full size legal carry multi-tool do you find works the best?

    • @simonh6371
      @simonh6371 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hvacbudget8600 I can literally count the full size legal carry multitools on one hand, at least half decent ones from reputable manufacturers. We've got the MP600 bladeless, Rebar knifeless, and the Bond that's it, unless you are lucky enough to find an old PST or Juice somewhere. I have an MP600 bladeless but rarely carry it as it's pretty bulky, in fact I put my normal Rebar in with my bike repair kit in a pouch, inside my rucksack when I'm riding anywhere, as I reckon I can justify being part of a toolkit as ''with good reason''.
      What I sometimes carry too, although it's more midsize than fullsize, is the SOG micro toolclip. I know the other tools are pretty poor on it but the pliers are actually almost as big as those on a full size mt, just without the needlenose bit on the end if you catch my drift. I pair it up with a SAK like the Climber or Farmer X. If I want to go ultralite I just carry my Squirt or Nextool mini with a folder or SAK.

      @@simonh6371 That's definitely limiting! Does modding a knife off a multitool and replacing it with some other tool make it legal?

    I really like SOG, so this isn’t SOG bashing... and they've recently up'd their game on their knives. And it appears they're trying to up their game on their multi tools as well. But the thing that holds them back, is resting their laurels on those compound leverage power assisted pliers. They really can't keep kicking that mule by building a multi tool that has a mediocre design and mediocre quality tools surrounding an awesome set of pliers. There are some great minds at SOG, so it's very likely we'll see better designs coming in the future. Like I said, I'm not bashing, I really like their stuff and their mission. Just an observation.
