    I just got one of these, and I’m really pleased. Having more tone control on the bridge pickup is a great tonal adjustment and the treble bleed gives you a bit more control. I tried 2 of them and the necks were vastly different from each other. I lucked out and found one of them to be extremely comfortable for me. As an owner of over a dozen Strats from over the last 40 years, I think Fender is one of the only companies still pushing the envelope (maybe pushing is too strong a word, more like tweaking) and continuing to create interesting variations on a well tested theme. Before this one I would have to mod my Strats, this one will stay stock. It does the job and has its own personality (like all Strats do).

      Great idea, Phillip Sayce is an awesome guitarist.
      Maybe they should do a high end Squier Phillip Sayce Stratocaster so it becomes more affordable but they should still make the specs more high end to the rest of the Squier stuff (with the same pickups as the Squier Classic Vibe 60s Stratocaster). And they should work with Sayce to have similar specifications to his Stratocaster.

    It's good to try make things easier to players, however, not always is the best: easy things does not let fight through sometimes: when my bendings ot vibrato wasn't the best I played the acoustic with 13-53 strings, i was hard, but I solve the issue and now I control better those tecniques over different gauges. Also, great guitar playes from the past had 7'25 radious, big necks, but they we're able to play (and not so famous or great guitarist too), because they practiced, practiced and practiced.
    Having said that, the new colors are great!
    Just my two cents!

  • @AverageRider1

    Great demo Kenny... this is probably one of the only guitars I can honestly say I wouldn't have to mod much to be happy with it out of the box. Sounds great. My only hang up that keeps me from buying Fender Stratocasters is they still don't offer a hardtail option for the flagship line. I always have to look at the weirdo obscure models to get a hardtail so I quit trying to find my perfect Strat.
    FENDER!!!! Where is the hardtails for the Pro series?! If you build it they will come. I even went to your custom build option on the website prepared to pay the extra for the custom build and still couldn't get a hardtail option and the colors are limited. Man... I could only wish.

    Only thing missing now is a piezo for acoustic tones like Townshend uses and they would be killer. Did same with a Mex strat project and added an Earvana compensated nut. Loven it. Bridge is locked down though, no wammy. Oh and how about stainless frets and roasted maple neck, I was thinking longevity. No charge for the advice.

    Professional is a fine name, I like it. I was afraid we're going to say goodbye to Am Standard with no fine substitution. But this is just fine if not better. Pickups = there's a little doubt, and definitely no thanks to the treble bleed circuit, but other than that, a really FINE guitar. I want it.

    I tried 3 Fender Stratocasters in store. A Vintera 50’s and Original 50’s both had the top E string much too close to the edge of the fret board. All three of them were a devil to get in tune and after only light playing including small string bends they all went out of tune quickly and a retune was necessary, repeat several times to allow for string stretching but this wasn’t the issue. The problem is inherent in Stratocasters. I find it frustrating that I can’t go into a store pick up a Stratocaster and it’s going to play well and stay in tune without having to take it home screw down the trem , file the nut and lubricate it, lubricate the string tree, fit locking tuners, adjust the action, take 4 screws out of the bridge to make it more stable, oh no wait the six screws in the Vintera and Original are very stable according to reviewers so maybe the Pro needs four after 60 years of development, what a foul up, you can spend more time fighting with these great looking guitars than playing if you’re not careful. I’ve had Strats before including a deluxe and an anniversary model and they all had tuning issues and the anniversary had the same string too close to the edge problem. I had a new graphite nut installed on recommendation but it didn’t fix the problem. Buyer beware!

    2016 Fender Standard Stratocaster $1099. 2017 Fender "Professional" Stratocaster $1399.... Sounds great and I'm a fan of Kenny Way, but a 27% increase for what amounts to new pickups (which do not cost more to make) and a new neck profile. Yeah, I'll pass on this one and probably every Fender product I see moving forward... I like the changes, but despise companies that use marketing tactics like product name changes to increase profit margins. Are they paying their American factory workers more or is this going into the pockets of the owners? From 1984 when the American Standard was introduced up until 2016 when they retired it, we saw neck profile and pickup changes, case changes all this happened without a 27% price hike or name change.... Fender should be ashamed.

      Frankly im glad i just got a 2016 standard, because. because i dont like necks that get wide, whole reson i like fenders is the thin necks. Oh well. Its not like guitars wear out so ill just keep mine. though i will say, they will probably cost less retail. still the price increse for what appears to be the same guitar with a diffrent neck, bugs the shit out of me

    • @derekzuchowski4105
      @derekzuchowski4105 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah the changes wouldn't cost Fender any extra but they are charging $300 more for an already expensive guitar. What a rip off. Glad I bought an American Standard. I don't even think I would like these changes any better. I'm happy with the frets, pickups, and neck profile that were previously included.

      Let's be honest here,shall we?Fender is just selling the same guitar,that Leo made in 1954,for the last 60 years,without any substantial upgrades,they just tag a new name on it and increase the price.

    • @rmzzz76
      @rmzzz76 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      stevie spillberg there is nothing like the real thing! In 2004 I attended a guitar show where a vender had a 1954 Stratocaster in very good condition going for around $100,000. I sheepishly walked up and ask if I could try it and to my surprise the owner was happy to let me plug it in (plugged in to a vintage vibro king), It was an experience I will never forget. I have not bought a new guitar since. The Eric Johnson signature with maple fretboard that was in production for years was a very good recreation, also in the late 70s to early 80s a Japanese company released near perfect reproductions under the Tokai brand (lawsuits by Fender for the headstock design shut them down). I have owned both.

    By these comments I'm guessing no one has heard of this guy. So much negativity. It's not that hard to change the video to something you like. He plays this strat like his others with the tones he likes and gives feedback on the things that are good for his style. This is him INTRODUCING the American pro strat, not giving an individual position tone comparison. And yes obviously a Hendrix influence in the tone but he uses these tones in his music

    Hey Kenny...how come the pole pieces stick up at irregular distances on this Strat? I've never been able to pull 'em up or push 'em down (for fear of breaking my pickups). What kind of electronic sorcery is this? But it sure do sound sweet! Fender - send me one for Christmas! Please? ;)

      It's called a staggered pickup. Because it has...well, staggered magnets :)
      They're a bit of a historic remnant - from good old days. And in current times largely irrelevant, but for purposes of keeping the tone as classic as possible they still make them that way.
      Got custom 50s on my strat, and hated them at first touch. Now I wouldn't imagine my tone without them. Definitely takes some time to understand how to get the goodness going.
      Perhaps I should explain why they were designed that way in the past. You see, Fenders used to have really low radius on the necks. Aka they had very noticeably curved fretboards. Many guitar manufacturers did, almost flat necks is the thing of modern times. So, that means that string action had to be set accordingly for proper setup - strings would rise over a pickups in a little arc, following the curvature of the neck. So the magnets were designed this way to roughly follow this curve.
      Nowadays, it's not really needed because necks have pretty flat radius. So flat-pole pickups prevail. But Fender do like their staggered pickups, so much in fact as to put them on their flagship American Standard Strat. And it definitely gives quite an interesting tonal characteristics. Slightly louder and hotter G string, and a bit quieter B is a bit of a stratocaster trademark. And you don't get it with a flat poles :)
      Edit: DON"T try to adjust them. They're not movable. And for god's sake don't try to file them down. Most likely you will demagnetize them, and your pickup will be ruined.

      Thanks for the info! My Gibson MIII has been sitting in a corner in 'timeout' for months every since I got a Telecaster. I have small hands, but I love the Tele neck...and less frets(?) Hard to explain, but I feel like I have more room to 'move' between the frets, on bends and jazz chord grips. (Yeah, bend a string on my Gibson and the whole guitar detunes...every string! For years I just stuck a block of wood in the tremolo cavity!)
      I did notice on the demo that the tone/volume did remain proportional, and though I can't comment on the G and B string relative volumes I'm willing to trust Fender that they got it tweaked just right!
