Merry Christmas and Happy Borthday to you Steve. As a German i am very pleased to see you doing a review of an EPA. You got one of the newest EPA, you can get on the market at the moment. The Jerky and the Boulion are realativly new to the EPA.The "noodels" have their origin in southern Germany/Austria. They are similar to italian gnocci. By the way, my favourite christmas movie is Christmas Vacation. Man i love Chevy Chase as Clark Griswold
I really appreciate the info Carsten. It has been a long time since i have had gnocchi and i did not think of it since i am used to seeing it in smaller pieces. Was nice and tender though. As you can see i was not a fan of the jerky due to it being dry, but i thought the broth was very good. Whenever i see salt as a first ingredient i think of those square bouilon cubes that taste like a salt lick, but this was very nice. I wish i had some plain crackers to put in it. I also think Christmas Vacation is great. Even with my strange taste i wonder how aunt Betsy's lime jello mold with the cat food on it tastes like lol. Thanks for watching Carsten and i hope you had a merry Christmas!
HAPPY BIRTHCAY !!!!!! those biscuits are the same as were in the German civilian EPA I did earlier this month, I liked the flavor of those, went well with the patés I had in my ration
Yeah the biscuits are nice they have more of a natural sweetness without being overloaded with sugar. I still wonder how they make the bread though. It seems like they mix all the ingredients, press it into a log, then slice it. If that is true then why is there yeast in it? I will find out one of these days lol. Thanks for the birthday wishes and thanks for watching Kaylynn!
Another great review Steve. I really want to try one of those rations. It all looked super good. I had to stop and start this video since I am making a smoked crab dip with artichokes for a snack on Christmas Day.
I have had 2 so far and enjoyed both of them quite a bit. Always lots of items with lots of drinks. It is also nice to have 2 coffee and tea extracts that make more than your typical 6 to 8 ounce cup. The smoked crab and artichoke dip sounds awesome. I fired up the smoker too for a rib roast that i done a quick 5 day dry age in the fridge. Turned out pretty good but at that time i was still kind of sick. Oh well i will enjoy it later. Thanks for watching!
Yeah it can be a bit lonely at times, but i have worked night shift my whole life so my social life has always been dismal. I am used to it though. Thanks for watching Connie!
Hi Steve...What a great ration..I've had one at home for a couple of months now and it has so much food contents i haven't had time to review....think it will take at least two videos to do it justice....The whole ration looked great and i'm sure i would have enjoyed all of that also....Hope you had a great birthday and Christmas.....ATB....Mick
Yeah it is a lot of food and i seriously thought about making it into 2 videos, but i figure i will just make it a single and see how it does. One thing i really like about the German rations is you will not go thirsty either. I think there is 9 drinks, plus the tea and coffee extracts make a lot. Everything was very enjoyable too, plus i like how the mains were a surprise since the name did not include everything that may be in the dish. Will be looking forward to your German review. Hope you had a great Christmas Mick and thanks for watching!
Hope you had a great Christmas too JDS and thanks for watching! Oh yeah as for chow i put a rib roast on the smoker after a simple 5 day age in the fridge. kind of sucks looking at food like that while you are sick lol.
Hey Steve Happy Christmas again. And happy late birthday sir welcome to the 50 club I'm like you I love all the old films we have a tv programme book packed full, of the old films from the 70s &80s and 90s and the wizard of Oz from 39 anyway that was a fantastic review sir and very filling contents well done man and many thanks again for your box of goodies which I've enjoyed
Thanks for the birthday wishes Pauly! It is amazing how time flies the older you get. I hope it goes even faster for the next 5 years so i can start pulling pension and quit my damn job lol. I know what you mean about the classics. For some reason the past year i have really started enjoying old westerns from TV like Death Valley Days, Zane Grey Theater, and Laramie. I really recommend the German rations though lots of great food and lots of drinks. Definitely plan to keep an eye on them to see if any new menus come out. Thanks for watching!
Schupfnudeln actually are potato dumplings. They are made from the same dough as the 1-inch potato dumplings "Kartoffelknöpfle" (cooked potatos, egg yolk, some flour, salt), not one of those more widespread 2-3 inch kinds of dumplings. They originated as a "leftover dish" and are boiled like dumplings and then fried in a pan the next day. As they became more widespread, the frying step got left out in some recipes, like the one you had in your EPA, and they just get re-heated.
Great review Steve. Trying to catch up on your videos. Been out of town for the holidays. That is a good looking ration. Have a great day my friend. Merry Christmas and Happy Birthday 🎂🎄
Yeah i got a little behind too while being sick and need to catch up. The ration was great i need to check some more when i get some time but i have others to do. Hope you had a merry Christmas and thanks for watching!
Wow 👏 I would love to try this ration, The meatballs and pasta looked very good, I checked the link, where purchased I guess there not in business, I'm sure that ration very expensive, Great Entrees very good review. Sincerely your freind from Mo Rick and God bless you and your family
Yeah the older German rations are really good, but they changed to a new supplier i think last year and they are not getting very good reviews. I still have one more of the older style rations left that is still good. I think it is menu 3 which is pea stew with pork sausage, and gnocchi with meatballs in cream sauce. I may crack into it next month. Also unfortunately MRE Zone went away about 2 years ago due to a problem with Customs i think. Bummer too since he carried a lot more of the rare and odd stuff.
@@nuked99 Thank you Brother, I hope you get thru cleaning your mom and Dads house soon, it never easy , we are going thru the same situation. So try not to stress out two much, I really enjoy your reviews, and your Dog is beautiful. God bless
Thanks Rachael. I wish i could get more of these German rations but they have a new vendor now and the food is not that great from what i have seen. I do have one of these left though but i forget what menu it is.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schupfnudel These are traditionally eaten with Sauerkraut where I’m from. And yes, they’re dunplings, really (but then, other German noodles are more closely related to dumplings than mediterranean pasta, too, especially Spätzle).
I just checked and Your MRE has a few in stock as well as MREmpire. I think Your MRE is in Lithuania and MREmpire is in the U.K. If you live in the USA like i do then there is a chance Customs will catch a package from Your MRE and the ones that come in from MREmpire seem to always get caught. At least that is my experience so far.
@@lancerevell5979 Well due to the mad cow disease and the swine flu problem many years ago you are technically not allowed to import beef and pork products into the USA, and for some reason i think chicken. Fish is no problem. If Customs inspects your items they can legally confiscate the suspected items that are not allowed into the USA. They will also provide paperwork of what "Acts" or rules were broken and provide contact information if you wish to dispute the situation. Personally i have never had a problem with my items coming through Customs in New York and Chicago. And i mean seriously i got packages and rations with the unfortunate yellow Customs Inspection tape all over my packages and they took absolutely nothing. I think i am just lucky because i talk nice about them 😃 Unfortunately there was the one time where i ordered from MREmpire. I will say they are great people to order from but since i live in the South (Arkansas) my package went to a UPS run Customs building in Louisville, Kentucky. They took just about everything, and i mean WAY more than what they should have been allowed. Out of 3 24 hour rations and a 12 hour ration they left me a pack of raisin and nut mix and 4 packs of crackers. They even left me a notice on 5 reasons why my items were confiscated like going against the poisonous weed act and the endangered species act. They even sent me a bill for $25. After the third notice i finally traced my middle finger on the bill and tossed in 25 dollars of Monopoly money. Never heard from them again and they never replied to my initial dispute about confiscating almost everything. Anyway sorry for rambling for so long! The "Schupfnudeln" are actually a bit like italian gnocci, but the traditional german way. My grandma teached me how to make them and I love it. I feel like it's more like an south-german thing. We eat them mostly the classic way with Sauerkraut, or especially kids like them the sweet way with sugar and cinnamon. I like both. You had them with creamsauce and meatballs (Not fish I guess) but I don't have a special recipe for that- sorry.
Not sure if i would like gnocci sweet, but i think they were quite good in this ration. I have not made them before but like you my grandmother (Polish) taught me how to make quite a bit of foods before she passed away. I think it would be quite easy to do. In a way i still feel stupid for not knowing they were a type of gnocci instead of pasta. Thanks for watching Caro Cat!
IIRC some people eat the sausage/pate with jam. Though berry jams are generally used for this (since apricot would be a bit too sweet). Oh, and I think the patties in sauce are more commonly known as "Hamburg steak" in English. Also, hope you feel better!
Yeah i now remember Nathan put jam on his pate a few times. I forgot about that. Hamburg steak sounds correct. I make Salisbury steak occasionally and it is in a brown gravy and mashed potatoes. Thanks for watching!

I have two packages of Beyond the Beaten Track Grapefruit and one of MSI Grapefruit (the latter was in my last EPA). I hate grapefruit, so if you want I'll send 'em to you!
I would be more than happy to take them if you want. I have had the OtBT grapefruit and it is close to the same but more like a pink grapefruit. I still like them though. Is there anything you are looking for in return? Thanks for watching!
Traversing Food nope, I just want to get some of these drinks off my hands as they tend to be the parts of rations I don’t consume often. Let me know if there are any others you like and I’ll be happy to drop them off in package and send ‘em your way.
Really appreciate it Bryan. My P.O. address is in the description. In a way i do the same thing this time of year during hunting season. A lot of my friends take all the foldable stoves, fuel tabs, and matches off my hands since they pile up during the year. Thanks!
@@nuked99 I'll send you a package in the new year. Canada Post was on strike for a month, so mail delivery is only now catching up to norms, so waiting a week won't delay the package much, if at all. I found a third package of BtBT grapefruit too. Call it a late birthday gift.
Congrats, on all of life's accomplishments friend !! Great looking ration friend. I am slowly working to getting mine reviewed. I will learn from yours friend, to do A better job. Great looking ration. { Breakfast } . Now that, is A wet Nap, not moist nap!! Nice utensil kit. Myself and Renee, saw some similar, at the gun show this weekend. Not exact, just, similar. Fine grind on the tuna, spreads and jams look good. Crackers good, drinks looked exceptional. Great job of mixing components. { Lunch }, mains, sides, snacks, drinks, all look great. I have eaten all my bread, from civilian ration, from Art and Nina, Tin saved however. I will enjoy the one , in your ration to me sir. If I have that butter spread in mine, I will enjoy that also. The meatballs and pasta, not exactly was expected, agreed. It looked and sounded awesome however. Agreed on Sesame bars, all combine as one, or, in British packs they do, LOL. Still highly edible, and delicious. { Dinner } Description of soup, slightly different. Main looks awesome I would have divided all 3 meals, virtually the same way as your did. Now, I have to rethink, LOL. My one track mind , is, easily derailed, as you know. I will do something, to make your gift to me, stand out as different. Once again, Thank you for all things concerned, gifts, presents, support and friendship. I will, find something, you have not tried yet, and, send your way. There are very little meals, that you have not tried. This does create Problems, to me, LOL. I was almost, done with single meals, so , I could start the older 24 Hr. rations, and then, get to yours and Btemples. It would seem, LOL, luckily as A blessing, I acquired, and, am in the process, of either winning, being gifted, and , trading along for some more rations? I will have something from Art and Nina soon as well. I enjoyed, your ration and review friend, as if, there was ever any doubt !! I hope, my effort at, your ration, will do you justice friend. Oh, The King of hearts, Knife, will return, LOL. Renee, loved your knife, and, removed the rest of your coffee candies, from around the world, on her visit last weekend. We both were disappointed, not one single meal. Most vendors, know, everyone had already spent their Christmas money, as did I . I just hoped, for that one rare occasion, like last years Canadian IMP case. This was not the weekend. Happy New year to you and yours, Happy Birthday, and, Congrats, on, filming Anniversary. Peace, John.
Hi John! Hope the German ration i sent you is not too difficult i know you mentioned that you do not have a smart phone with Google Translate. I am sure you can use the "enter text" part of it though online. I also wonder how many different bread spreads there are we know there are at least 2. And yes it helps having some single meals on hand in case you need to do a video in a pinch. Glad to know you are enjoying the stuff i sent. I have just been piddling around the house the past few days cleaning and such. Drinking beer and watching hockey. Hope you are enjoying your time off and have a happy New Year!

@@nuked99 no problem...I can hook you up www.kitchenstories.com/en/stories/meet-schupfnudeln-the-german-and-austrian-answer-to-gnocchi foodal.com/recipes/pasta/german-schupfnudeln-potato-dumplings-for-every-occasion/
www.thespruceeats.com/german-potato-noodles-badische-schupfnudeln-1447178 www.mygerman.recipes/schupfnudeln-potato-noodle-recipe/ I think you will find one that suits your palate.
The bread goes best together with the spread AND the sausage...
I will remember that! Thankfully i still have one of the older versions left. I hear that the newer rations are not that great, but i have yet to try one. Thanks for watching!
Pretty sure you can buy the drink mix at foreign mre
Sure can. I remember checking there about a month ago but they must have added them recently. Thanks for the info!
In your recent video, you still wanted to get the grapefruit drinks , maybe contact the German ration producer, if you kept that contact card
Happy Birth-Aversary!
Thanks Steve!
Tuna salad for breakfast, hardcore.
lol nothing like a little extra protein in the morning to keep you going. I love the German rations though. Thanks for watching Dan!
Happy Birthday!
Have you found out where to get those orifo drinks if no you can go to mre nation or. I used to work for amazon.com you can also get them off there cause Amazon sales everything
Yeah i have found the grapefruit drinks at MRE Nation but i have not seen them at Amazon. Thanks for the info Rufus!
HBD!🎄
Thanks James and thanks for watching!
Happy birthday
As a former grunt I’d throw away or trade half that stuff. Unless on a base , damnation!
I know this is one of my older videos but i thought it was pretty good for what it is. I do have a original typ 3 menu that i plan to review in the next month.
don't feel to bad today is my 40th. happy belated birthday.
Nice keep them coming👍👍
I plan on it all year long and thanks for watching Tamara!
Found some Orifo grapefruit juice drink mix for sale TF...Check out mrenation.com...go under MRE Components then go to Foreign MRE Components and the select German components....Hope this helps and you can get as much of the drinks you like for $2 ea. Another fantastic video by you TF. Hope the holidays/birthday have found you in good spirits, and that you had a Merry Christmas and a Happy Birthday....Glad you are feeling better.. You are definitely quickly becoming my go to for ration reviews....oh, and Die Hard is a Christmas movie...lol.
The funny thing is i was at mrenation almost 2 weeks ago and did not see it listed. I have a list and plan on making a custom foreign mre and 24 hour US mre. Thanks for letting me know. I am still feeling a little dizzy but at least i have no problems eating now. Plan to see the doc again this week if i can. Thanks for the Birthday wishes it is usually just me this time of year. That's ok though. At least i did not go crazy this time and make pizza out of all my holiday leftovers from dinner lol. Hope you and yours had a Merry Christmas and thanks for watching!
Happy belated birthday
@@guidedbywez Understandable. I have a package to send to Canada and am waiting for everything to calm down too.
Schupfnudeln are made from potatoes, it's more of a “German gnocchi“ than pasta. :)
I do not know why i did not think of that, but i have never had gnocchi before. They were quite good too. Thanks for watching!
Very cool friend.
Stop saying "...but thaats okay"! :)
hear you go orifo foods
Merry Christmas and Happy Birthday!
Thanks a lot guys hope you had a great Christmas too and thanks for watching. Anything new on the horizon coming soon?
