I've been watching this channel nonstop since finding it....weird it took about 200 hours of Aquarium Coop videos before this was suggested. You've become my plant source. Thanks for the info.
One of the biggest things surface agitation does is to increase the volume of water that comes in contact with the atmosphere. You bring water that is lower in oxygen into the oxygen exchange zone at the surface and then that water is moved into the water column by the current to allow for more lower O2 water to come through. It serves to mix the more oxygen rich water with the less oxygen rich water. Great video series.
I've been watching so many of your videos since I discovered you the other day. I can't believe it took TH-cam this long to recommend! Your stuff is awesome!
I've been watching co2 videos for a few days now trying to find some science about co2 diffusion in fish tanks and you have nailed it!!! Thanks for the great information!!
Man, since I first Subscribed to your channel I"ve learned so much, all of the supplies needed are ordered 1) the Fluval 220 kit .2) Aquascaping tools 3) and filtration mechanical and bio- including some nice pieces of Dragon stone. So when its all delivered I must write again. thanks you are my new Sensei. Thanks.
I have been watching so many videos to learn about Co2, but your is the best of the best great explanation of what is Co2 thanks and what to do! Thanks
I am about to make my first planted tank. I bought a Co2 set, and will enjoy the progress of watching and experimenting with plants. I tried the non Co2 version some time ago - I'm not doing that again.
@@TheWaterBox So my tank has been going for like 2 weeks now. I'm getting some algae on the driftwood and the stones. That may indicate that the algae have good terms. Any suggestions on how to fight the development in the early stage. The drop checker is showing green-ish yellow, and the fish are not showing any signs of too much co2 in the water... Faster grow plants? Lower the co2?
So stoked for the next vid! Just finished planting my background in my new 40gal and really looking forward to getting some plants for a carpet! Thanks for the steady supply of info!
Once again great info helped me get alot better In understanding the co2 and oxygen mix.May have some questions but not sure with so many commenting you may see me but I hope for the best really fighting with my DIY system to get it right
Awesome man thanks for this great video! Learned a ton from your lighting series and have already done a bit of DIY CO2 with assistance from your other videos. Excited for this series!
7:23 Minor correction, you mean *partial* pressure. The air in the top of the tank will be the same pressure as the room, clearly or else it would pop like a balloon. However if CO2 is outgassing from the water column it will naturally increase the concentration in the top of the tank, this will decrease the partial pressures of other gases in the air N2 & O2. The partial pressure id Of course if you did put your tank under pressure, you could dissolve more CO2, that's why soda bottles fizz when you pop the lid.
Thanks to you and your videos helped me gained alot. I would like to ask, does bps mean alot? I accidentally discovered that my diffuser works well when put in the outflow of my filter, it makes a super micro bubbles dispersing throughout my tank. The thing is, Im only running like 3seconds per bubble on my counter but my checker is still blue. Im not really sure if anything of those mater coz my co2 microbubbles are all over my tank and I mean "all over" as in my tank literally looked milky and not due to bacterial bloom. But coz of my co2
I’ve seen this video a few times already, but your information is solid. I belong to a Yuma Tropical Fish Society. Do you do club visits on your best aquatic topics?
Awesome video, thank you, my question is should i use air pump and pressurized Co2 together? Or i should turn off the air pump while my CO2 is running?
You can do both if you don't have surface agitation already. The thing air pumps do is cause surface agitation from the bubbles popping at the surface. Not inject O2 into you tank but again, keep the equalibrium in the tank. You may have to up the co2 injection a little
Soon. But it's just counter how many bubbles you get per second. That's it. There's no calculations to it. You just dial it in til it's giving you the co2 levels you want.
Top videos again my friend is it true when lights are off tank when going to bed Your plants don't take in co2 and take in the oxygen that's in the tank that the plants produced in the day can you run co2 24 hours a day
Yes. At lights out the plants stop taking in co2 and expels O2 but it won't allow you to keep injecting co2. It doesn't give enough O2 out to keep up with injected co2. You need to turn it off at night.
Nice and imformative vid!! Thanks!! Is it adviseable to use Co2 on the dry start method seeing that the tank is kinda sealed with cling wrap? If so, will a passive diffusion system work? Just recently got my 1st 2 pressurized systems so I am still new on the subject.
Are you asking DURING the Dry Start Period? You don't need Co2 during that period. Just make sure to have a couple of golf ball size holes so there's co2 getting into the tank.Passive systems only work in water.
Yo I like that runner cut in, nice edit. Anyway on the co2, I find it my plants pearl more if I send all co2 into the tank via diffuser than using an inline reactor. Not sure if I’m tripping or not, might have to just crank up the bubble per second, I hate the fizz look in my tank.
Could be perception. Inline reactor can be a pain to dial in because you can't see what's going on. Unless your talking about an in line mister/atomizer?
The Water Box oops yea I was talking about an in-line atomiser. Anyway my drop checker is lime green, but you know how reliable those are, haha. My fishes seems fine so I think I’ll dial it up a bit more and see how the fishes react.
does running co2 fluctuate the ph a lot? I was thinking about adding a system to my discus tank but after research people say its not a good idea because of the ph swings at day and night.
It swings but swings slowly and it's fine for discus. I've run Co2 in plenty discus tanks. And remember, it's an artificial drop. Just as long as you don't do sudden swings you are fine.
There's no actually "kit" per say. Maybe places like Co2Arts or GreenleafAquariums have kits available. You might check there. I normally just buy my co2 system piece meal so I can customize my set up by type of tank and budget.
I click your link to amazon and found most of the items and just keep watching over and over to make sure I got the right stuff again thanks for breaking down all the info
I use a sponge filter in my tank so I dont get much current. Does the sponge filter affect my co2 and should I use a current maker to distribute? I have one that move 175 - 400 GPH that I could use.
The bubbles coming from your sponge filter will create surface agitation. That's how air stone/bubbles work. It creates ripples at the top of the water level and create the slight waves.
Hey, is it normal to have ph drops in co2 injected tanks? As what I have noticed(I use a PH meter), before the lights turn on and my co2 is off my ph is at a 6.8, but when the lights turn on and the CO2 is on the PH is 7.2, I'm just worried about the part where you turn on the CO2 before the lights go on an hour before, will these PH shifts stress the livestock out? I currently have no livestock in my tank, but I just wanted to know does this occur often or what can I do to make the PH stable. BTW Co2 doesn't affect Gh and Kh right?
Drops, yeh, that's normal and it's fine as long as it doesn't drop super fast and too much. It'll change your PH and KH readings temporarily and can be controllable but you still have to watch out for it. But your SUPPOSE to get a drop, not a rise. I don't know why you're going from 6.8 on off hours then then a jump to 7.2 during on hours.
@@TheWaterBox Ok thanks, maybe luckily there's no livestock, I'm guessing it's because the tank is heavily planted? So all the co2 is taken out within that time period? I haven't injected Co2 yet, so i'm guessing that's the reason.
I would like to know. Do we have to open the main valve full or just abit. Cause when I open abit by tomorrow it went to 0. So I need to open more. The canister is new.
I suppose by dsm you mean dry start method?? Maybe you are not spraying the plants with water often enough? If you are.... I suggest lifting the lights a bit
