  • BEST BUDGET 5.1 HOME THEATER SPEAKERS - Klipsch Reference Theater Pack Review
    What the WHAT?! This 5.1 theater speaker set packs a PUNCH, along with an insane price point! And this ain’t some no-name brand either…it’s from KLIPSCH! So you know it’s quality. I review the Reference Theater Pack and give you a few pointers along the way. Check it out!
    *CORRECTION: I made the mistake of circling the wire terminals and called them the "keyhole mounts" on both the satellite and center speakers. D'OH! My bad. The keyhole mount holes are actually in the exact spot as the ¼ " threaded insert. Sorry for any confusion!

    Little tip. When finding where to put the Sub don't just put it where you like the look place it in all 4 corners testing one at a time then try some others places. If you have a friend or partner to help ask them to come in the room each time and close their eyes and tell you where they think the bass is coming from. You want to get it in a place that makes it impossible to tell where the sub bass is coming from. If you place on the left in front of you and its easy to tell its there then keep trying. Once you have it in a place that makes it impossible to judge where the bass is coming from then you will be getting the best experience possible.

    Hello, thank you for the review and information. I've had an Onkly DTR 5.5 receiver only ever connected to my dated Bose AM5 which still sound incredible. But time has come to replace with a 5.1 set of speakers. I found this set and made a purchase via Amazon (expected delivery this week) since Costco was out of stock. The set should be more than sufficient to improve what we had previously in our family room, really looking forward to hearing it all. Once again, thank you ... very helpful info, well done!

    Just set this system up with the Sony AV receiver ( STR-DH790 ) and a set of Micca RB42X which I used as my fronts. Makes an awesome 5.1.2 system and the subwoofer is incredibly powerful. I have it set at about 10 o’clock on the sub and negative 2 in my receiver and it vibrates everything in the living room. For an 8” sub it’s really hard to believe it puts out that much power. Even my installer couldn’t believe the quality of sound for such a low profile set. Great accurate review. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

    Nice video dude! I got this same package back in November and I still find myself fine tuning the settings for it (never ends, I swear). I was wondering what you set your speaker levels to in your AVR settings? I know each person's setup will vary with distances and all, but I was just curious. My LCR are about 10-11ft away and my surrounds are about 8ft from my seating position.

      So how are they?? I need new speakers for my Onkyo TX-SR 373 and I did touch them at Costco. I'm blind by the way. So yeah they feel cool. Now they had them unplugged from the demo shelf. So couldn't press the demo button to hear the,m. Does the sub really vibrate the room like a car sub would? I mean the kinda vibration he described is car stuff my guy. I wouldn't be surprised even though it only goes to 38 Hz cause I have heard some other Klipsch subs at Costco and brugh they hella sound like a car sub. What AVR did you use with them?

    Ealan, great video very informative! I know nothing about sound systems so please excuse my ignorance, but I heard you mention connecting the system to a receiver… is this a piece of equipment that you need to make this HOme theater system work or is it a standalone system?

    • @ealanosborne
      @ealanosborne  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s correct. You do need a receiver to power these speakers. Pretty much any intro receiver will suffice - Denon s650h, Sony STR-DH590, Yamah RX-V385. 👍

    Great video dude! I’m looking for a multi speaker surround sound system to set up in my room so I can jam out to music nice and loud. I have a pretty big room so this interested me. Would it be possible to simply connect an iPhone to this system to play music? If not, what do you recommend?

    • @ealanosborne
      @ealanosborne  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, Jake! Well, since this an “old school” wired speaker system, you’d still have to power the Klipsch passive speakers with an AV receiver and some speaker wire to connect all the speakers to the receiver. But there are some great inexpensive receivers out there that have Bluetooth connectivity to stream music thru it like the Denon AVR-S540BT. I’d recommend that! You’d have 5.1 surround and killer bass for music and it won’t break the bank! 👍

    I bought this when I first got back into home theater and honestly for a all in one it’s a great system especially on sale . I think it’s one of the better htib systems out there . Grab yourself a budget avr and you could be up and running for 600-700 bucks that’s a good deal for everything and a good starting system . I eventually returned it though and bought a full klipsch rp series 5.1 but sold that as well lol now I have svs ultras

    • @ealanosborne
      @ealanosborne  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chronot1342 Probably the Onkyo. It's got just a touch more power than the Denon, although their room calibration software isn't as good as Audyssey (which comes with Denon), so you might be doing a tad more manual corrections. But pound for pound, Onkyo over Denon just by a hair. But the last thing to consider is music. Yamaha is a clear winner when it comes to a great hybrid home theater/music receiver. And the Yamaha makes it MUCH easier to create a whole home music listening experience all controlled by the TSR-700 (if that's something you're into). Otherwise: 1) Onkyo 2) Denon 3) Yamaha

    • @ealanosborne
      @ealanosborne  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks so much for the compliments, Richard! For a 5.1 system, I would personally avoid any HTIB that also comes with its own receiver (like the Onkyo HT-s3910). It usually means the internal components of the receiver are pretty cheap. I would recommend getting the Klipsch Reference Theater Pack, the Denon AVR-S650H, and some 14 gauge speaker wire from Amazon. It costs more up front, but it'll last you a lot longer and give you better performance.
      As far as an Atmos system is concerned, you'll usually need to spend at least $800 and get a receiver that's at least 7.1 channel. I'm actually releasing another video next week reviewing 2 budget Dolby Atmos soundbar systems, so those might be an option for you too! Be on the look out for that when it comes out! :)

    I love your videos Ealan! Good content coverage plus some humor and visual effects along the way!
    So I do have a question......
    So this Theater pack is currently on sale for $350 at Costco and you get the 5 speakers and a 8" sub. I'd have to buy a receiver at about $300 to power it. So the all in cost would be about $650 to get 5.1 surround.
    I am also looking at the Klipsch Cinema 600 soundbar which is on-sale for $300 right now. This package, from what I can tell, has better front and center speakers (classic Klipsch horn design) built into the soundbar plus it has a larger wireless 10" sub. I can also pair the Cinema 600 soundbar with the wireless Klipsch Surround 3's for about another $250. So the all-in price for the Cinema 600 + Surround 3's would be $550 and this would get me a complete 5.1 theater package.
    I'm curious what your thoughts are on this Costco 5.1 Theater Pack vs the Klipsch Cinema 600 + wireless Surround 3's? I'm thinking the Cinema 600 + Surround 3's would be a better deal since all the speakers seem to be better plus it has a larger more powerful sub. Plus it's $100 cheaper.
    I was curious what your thoughts are?
    Thanks!

    • @ealanosborne
      @ealanosborne  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow! Thanks for the compliments!
      Here’s the rub - both of those setups will have their pluses and minuses. Yes the theater pack needs a receiver, but good ol’ fashioned wired speakers will last and give you few problems, if any at all.
      That being said, the Cinema 600’s soundbar speakers’ frequency response goes down to 35Hz, so they are full range, compared to the theater pack’s speakers which only go down to 110Hz, so they’re not as full.
      And yes, that subwoofer is bigger, so you’ll get amazing low frequency response. But the 8” sub in the theater pack is still so surprisingly powerful.
      BUT...those Three speakers are wireless, and I have read articles saying they aren’t the most reliable. There is a chance if you get the Threes, you’ll have no issues whatsoever. Cool. But wireless speakers always have more of a chance to do bizarre things. But the convenience of not having to deal with wires with speakers behind you, that is definitely a plus.
      So you just gotta pick your battles wisely. 😀 I think either setup is a good bet.

    • @ealanosborne
      @ealanosborne  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The nice thing about this system over a soundbar is that you aren’t confined to the width of the soundbar itself. You can make the left, center and right speakers as close or far apart as you want. But using a soundbar just for a center channel? I don’t think that’s done easily, and I don’t think it would improve the situation all that much anyway.

And this Klipsch theater pack doesn’t come with wireless speakers, so you’ll need speaker wire to pass the audio signal from your amp to these speakers. I personally have a media closet where my receiver is, then I cut holes out and fished speaker wire behind my walls so I could mount these speakers on the walls in my living room with minimal wires being seen. I’m using the same setup Onkyo tx-nr787 with klipsch theater pack! Can you share best settings for the amp? Thanks in advance

    • @ealanosborne
      @ealanosborne  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Which settings were you thinking of? As far as volume levels, that is unique to your home theater space. For example, I have 10 foot ceilings and an open concept living room that includes a kitchen and dining area in the same space, so I have my center channel louder than the Front L/R speakers so I can hear the dialog better. The reason I got the Klipsch RTP in the first place was because when we first moved into our current house, there were already 4 speakers in the ceiling and a center channel speaker in the wall below where the TV is mounted. The previous owner just used those ceiling speakers as their 5.1 setup. But then I thought, "Once I get an inexpensive, yet quality 5.1 system, I can turn those ceiling speakers into height channels and have a full 5.1.4 Dolby Atmos setup!" So I had to do quite a bit of tweaking with levels to make it sound encompassing since my walls and ceilings are pretty far away from the listening position. Other than that, I don't really mess with sound modes or tones since the Onkyo is good at recognizing which protocol to follow, whether that be Atmos or DTS:X, etc. Although if I wanna listen to music, I try and stream it from my phone ( as opposed to from the XBOX) through the Onkyo app, since it does make it sound better when that blue "Music Optimizer" button is lit up. Hope that helps!

    Are you still happy with the klipsch reference system? What AVR do you feel that would best pair up with this system. Keep in mind I would like to add two maybe four height speaGers (LOL) at a later time. Also Marantz makes slimmer AVR with less watts per channel at a lower cost than the regular Marantz costing over a thousand and higher. Would you recommend a slimline less watt Marantz over a Denon or Yamaha AVR. I want to start with a 5.1 setup then slowly build to a 5.2.2 or 5.2.4 or 7.2.2. Please let me know your thoughts.

    • @ealanosborne
      @ealanosborne  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      An interesting thing I’ve noticed is that manufacturers aren’t selling budget 9 channel receivers anymore (less than $1,000). I got my Onkyo TX-NR787 a few years ago for $499 after watching the price like a hawk, then jumping on it when it went on sale.
      But all manufacturers have discontinued that tier of receiver. No idea why. But the Denon x3700h is the best/least expensive I could find that was 9 channel, but still costs $1,200. Since you wanna go up to a 5.2.4 or 7.2.2, you’ll need 9 channels eventually, so might as well make that investment up front? There is a Marantz similar to the Denon that costs $1,699. Yikes! But of course that’s gonna be an amazing receiver.
      I’d stick with the big beefy receivers, as opposed to slim line, since you want to upgrade eventually. If you just wanted to stick with a 5.2.2 with small satellite speakers, a slimline would be fine.
      My Reference Theater Pack I still thoroughly enjoy. It’s good for me for now. I might upgrade my satellites to some SVS Primes down the line. There’s a chance we might be moving to a larger property 3 years or so from now, at which point I’d want to have a dedicated home theater room. Then I’d upgrade everything slowly. But for now? No need to upgrade my current home theater TOO much more. 😄

    Hello sir.
    This video is great and I enjoyed the content...
    I am now a subscriber based on this video.
    I do have a question I'm hoping you can provide your opinion on. I'm moving into a new build and have opportunity to spend about $1500 on speakers and a receiver for my rec room. I can do basically anything at this point. Regular speakers, satellite. Or Even in wall. My hope is to have a great movie and gaming experience as my personal preference for music is on my record player. I'm hoping to also have 5.1 surround minimum and wireless connectivity. What would you personally recommend?

    • @ealanosborne
      @ealanosborne  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you want a wireless system, the Enclave CineHome 5.1 system is getting great reviews. Although if you can spend $100 more, the CineHome Pro is $1,600, so it’s gonna have higher quality components.
      Do you have a Costco membership? Or know someone who does? They sell a Klipsch 5.0.2 Dolby Atmos system for $900, which is by far the best price you’ll get instead of trying to buy those speakers individually. Add the Klipsch R-12SW Subwoofer for $250, and the Sony 7.2 STR-DH790 receiver for $350, that brings you to $1,500.
      But I’m also releasing a video later this week about how to get a decent 5.1.2 Dolby Atmos setup for less than $1,000 if that interests you. 😀 Stat tuned! And thanks so much for subscribing!

      @ealanosborne  ปีที่แล้ว

      I've never experienced in-wall subwoofers before, but I'm sure they're good to some degree! It might not perform the best compared to a normal subwoofer since they have to be pretty slim/narrow to fit inside a wall, but depending on your room, it might be perfect! 🤷‍♂

    Thank you for the review I am considering the same system from Costco, although my other choice is the Polk T15 bookshelf(4 of them) with a T30 center,. Either choice will have an8” sub and atmos speakers from the brand I go with. Really can’t decide and I have to have them in 10 days for install... any suggestions?

    • @ealanosborne
      @ealanosborne  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ChribecaShooters Thanks!! I personally haven’t heard the T15 speakers myself, but they seem to be on par with the Klipsch speakers, at least on the spec sheet. Although the T15’s are heavier - 8 lbs as opposed to 3 lbs. And they’re larger and boxy, compared to the sleeker, smaller tapered look of the Klipsch. Don’t know if that makes a difference to you personally, but if the performance is about the same, I’d go with smaller and sleeker, so they’re a tad less noticeable. But that’s just my personal preference, since one day I’ll have ONLY in-wall speakers, since I like my system to WOW people, yet be hidden. Like a ninja? 😄👍

Wouldn’t hurt, I guess. It’ll either work or it won’t. 😄 Good luck!

    Yo Ealan. My nephew finally set the system up. So on the Sub there's a faze thing. What's that do and what's it for? Also the power switch has auto or on. What's auto do?

    • @ealanosborne
      @ealanosborne  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Phase is just if maybe there’s some boomy issues or not enough bass due to the location of the sub. Try testing it with phase at 0 and 180 degrees and see if there’s a difference. It might not do anything, or maybe it makes an improvement after all. 😁
      “Auto” means it will be on “standby” mode when not in use, then kick on if it detects low frequencies. “On” just means it’s always on. 🤘Happy listening!
