Hey, regardless of the reason WHY you guys decided to actually film the commercials, I'm so glad you did... It just wouldn't be the same without those awesome hilarious commercials.
As a 90’s kid, this was a easily one of my favorite episodes. Trey and Matt literally got it right with this one. The Pokémon phenomenon back in 99 was a real thing. I can relate to Kyle. I remember like it was yesterday when I first heard of Pokémon. I was in the 4th grade at the time and it was Friday. Went the entire weekend and there was no word of anything Pokemon related. Came back Monday and it happened. ALL of the kids were talking about Pokémon. It was crazy how fast it happened. That’s why I love this episode. It really captured the feeling perfectly.
@@malcolmxpanther I don't know if they "hate" it, so much as they weren't able to understand the appeal. They were obviously approaching this from an outsider/uninitiated perspective. I mean, they're Gen Xrs, so they probably spent time collecting toys of Star Wars when they were little, even though Star Wars had more of a story than Pokemon (the anime) did. And I am saying that as someone who grew up loving the Pokemon anime and still watches old episodes occassionally. I would love to see a sequel episode to Chinpokomon though. Since Pokemon has had a resurgence in popularity with the now in their 30s Millenials that grew up with it, Trey and Matt could skewer the trend of nostalgic reappreciation.
I feel when Matt and Trey are describing the plot of an episode to a journalist, they aren't apologizing, but more confessing how they came up with the idea.
These are interview highlights from Comedy Central. No journalism involve since it doesn't come from another media source. You practically don't watch the channel enough, stranger.
It was a missed opportunity for sure. South Park has been almost every episode since season 20 talking about Trump or the news of the hour. I missed the first 14 seasons of the shows when they cared about gaming and giving Kenney a hero back story. Maybe they have turned into those old guys who just love washing the news now, more than playing games or caring another fandom.
If Parker and Stone ever decide to make a third game on their new game series, it should parody Japanese related media/pop culture, involving Chinpokomon, princess Kenny, the okama game sphere, & the ninjas from season 8 in which it'll include alot of their own animation and actual Japanese animation.
The Wild Wacky Action Bike commercial is one of the funniest things I've ever seen, and the fact that they actual made that thing makes it so much funnier. It wouldn't hit as hard in animation.
It was part of a promotional stunt with itunes to celebrate south park's 15 year anniversary. They let the fans pick their top 15 favourite episodes and had Matt & Trey do commentaries on them.
As someone who grew up when pokemon first came out, and started to take over the world of kids. They hit it so hard on the head and honestly? The episode is one of my favorites. Whenever I am watching select episodes of South park. I always have Chinpokomon on my list. I remember seeing the first pokemon game commercial on tv, and being like "Oo? What's this?" Then begged my mom to get me Red version and she did xD My parents didn't really understand it kinda like the parents in the show. But they were supportive of me, same with my grandmother who bought me a booster box for an early Birthday Present and that's how I got my first edition charizard. Which would later be stolen by my best friend. I also remember my dad buying me cards online, and seeing them in his hand as he gave them to me. It was honestly an amazing time to be a kid. I also remember my parents got my older brother a gameboy color and blue version. He didn't play it much. Pokemania was crazy when I was a kid. I remember a bunch of kids at my school having underground trading in the bathrooms at the school. I remember the school banning the cards and even toys from the school. It was crazy and Honestly don't think we will ever see something as crazy as it was.
I always thought the funniest part of that episode was that they used the same song for all the commercials with different lyrics. Classic DVDA tunes - masters of the "still playing hair metal in the 90's" sound
haha I also think it's hilarious they made actual live action commercials in lieu of animating them just for one joke. Not to mention they STILL make you crack the hell up.
Crazy how much effort they used to put into this show. In the last few years they basically just look at whatever is in the news that week and have Randy do that.
They already did an episode about mobile gaming - a Canada related one. Maybe they could make an episode where the Canadian minister of mobile gaming and emperor Hirohito each use the Terrence & Philip games and Chinpokomon Go as means for world domination.
Matt and Trey are absolutely right about the Pokémon anime - it's just an incomprehensible tool for brainwashing kiddies into buying crap. IMO they should have played the games, but then again you have more Chinpokomon in The Stick of Truth (released 15 years later) that are actually based on the newer games.
These 2 guys have a Badass relationship!! Hope they stay friends for ever!!lmaoooo They don’t need nobody because they play(voice act) atleast 99 percent of the characters !!
I don't know why this isn't very well known, but the anime is based on the game, not the other way around as most people seem to think. The story was based on the game mechanics so it couldn't really go anywhere. At the end of Red and Blue you just start start again and keep collecting animals until you get a worthless certificate. Meowth couldn't talk either.
Because most people in the 90s(both children and adults) know Pokemon from the anime. It came on every saturday morning and after school and for it's time it was vastly superior to any other cartoon around it's time so kids loved it. It wasn't a good anime, but it and DBZ was the reason most people got into anime due to how well marketed it was in the western world. The games were just treated like any other regular game, heck even the trading cards were more popular at the time.
It is on itunes, you can get it for around $2, or you can pirate it. Search around for "South Park s03e11 jhonny2. The entire episode was redone in 1080p.

It’s cool how they kept up with the new Gens to make new Chinpokomon for Stick of Truth. Same for Call Girl’s Chinpokomon GO move in Fractured but Whole. Ike even likes Chinpokomon Sun & Moon!
@Der Bettnässer yeah they say it's a genius idea but they are free to get in the game ... You get em in game not in real life lol In Japan as you say it was more the i choose you so even less consumerism there
I wish they would bring those weird ads back they were hilarious.
very true, however, they did do that drink drink ad with the Shiti pa town eps. I think it was that episode at least.
THE MR HANKY ONE WAS THE BEST
Alabama man!I want one!
Alabama man!!!!
OMG the Mr. Hankey playset was THE BEST!!

@@TheMcGlizzyand I’m here to let you know I left it at 169 🫡
I was about to point that out, too! 😂
It seems like Trey and Matt have the mind of an adult but the sense of humor of a child.
They made a bootleg toy for their show, and they named it "little penis" in Japanese. Sounds about right.
I can relate.
Ya think?
Just like me
It’s funny because they hated Pokémon. Which is ironic because I love South Park and Pokémon. Which I loved watching both since I was a kid

I'll trade you my shoe for your roostor.

I wanna see a Galar Shoe!

Dude that small penis story is fucking hilarious! I had no idea that's where that came from. These dudes are legendary.
