    I was lucky enough to get my hands on about 40 plastic pallets.

      I thought that too a couple years ago. The ones I got where the blue stackable light weight ones. When they get cold they busted up real bad, they where brittle and not good. There might be some heavy duty ones that are better.

    I think I said something before but
    If there's a seed corn plant near by they have a score of pallets give them a call the one near me don't charge and you can get 100 at a time or as much as you can haul

      @@InTheWoodyard ya when seed is shipped the sometimes have to re stack the seed
      Where I work in I'll corn comes in from Brazil on a odd metric pallets and we could use them in our palletizer so when the corn came in in the spring from south America we threw away lots of pallets every day
      Hope that helps

    • @InTheWoodyard
      @InTheWoodyard  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I just shot a video about just that yesterday, it will be on in about a week. If you have the room, an open area with single rows running north and south would be perfect, but I do not think it makes a big difference. Sun wind and time are the best drying things next to a kiln!

  • @tom5051666
    @tom5051666 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I do not understand the purpose of the pallets. You don't have a forklift that can pick them up when fully loaded so you end up quadruple handling every piece of firewood.

    • @InTheWoodyard
      @InTheWoodyard  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Firewood ....all wood... will wick moisture from the ground if it is in contact with it especially if it is in a big pile. And buy putting the wood on a pallet it not only keeps it from ground contact it allows the air to flow under the wood too so that it drys faster. I stack the wood so that it is also pre-measured so that when I load it to deliver it I know how much wood is loaded for the customer easily all the time.

    • @tom5051666
      @tom5051666 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@InTheWoodyard the drying makes sense, it would be much easier for you and your customers if you had some way to pick up the pallet and put it in the trailer, then take it off at the customer end so they don't have to re-stack the wood.

      It sounded like Chris was working on getting some of the industrial nylon mesh that his brother Kenny puts down under his pallets . If you get a chance to watch yesterday’s video from Kenny’s wood yard you’ll see how effective that is for Kenny. It extends the pallets lifespan and still lets rain water or snow melt drain through.

    • @InTheWoodyard
      @InTheWoodyard  3 ปีที่แล้ว

    We've been doing a pretty big remodel at the house and some of the material comes on pallets. A truck driver delivered some new bathroom vanities to us that were on pallets and I told him that I would keep them for firewood stacking. He pointed into his truck and said "How about all of these?". Instant score and delivered. The wind out of the NW is why it is cool there so much. NW of Wisconsin is the Artic, right?

    Having worked in the LTL freight business for quite some time I've found pallets are referred to as "skids". I visit a lot of different businesses and have a chance to find the best skids to use for stacking my firewood. Guess you could say your business is "on the skids" ...literally! Keep cutting, stacking, and most importantly, $elling your firewood. Good night Irene - Will
