    You can also recondition older paints that have really solidified or "gone weird" from sitting for years between uses. Just use an eye dropper with distilled water, and another for dropping in liquid matte medium (or regular medium, but it takes more water). I think my oldest citadel paint is like 8-10 years old in those awful screw top lids.

    You have got to be kidding me. It's that simple. It's essentially when companies like Bausch and Lomb do where they will sell you the same saline solution for washing contacts as contact eye drops in a tiny bottle for twice the price of a large bottle. You are a savior for showing this all this stuff!

Plus, with their distribution system being worldwide, it pushes the quality even higher. You can't get medium from anywhere else in the world approaching the quality of GW medium. Dude, I love your Videos but the stuff coming out of a condenser is basically distilled water, not deionized water. Difference being one's made by heating water (so that Ions remain as residue) and condensing the water where it's clean. The other's made by piping water through two ion exchange resins, replacing cations with hydronium and Anions with hydroxide. Both then react to form water with no impurities left. Distilled water will usually be slightly acidic due to carbon dioxide it catches from the air while deionized water would be ideally completely ion free, if you remembered to Regenerate your resins and kept the process slow enough for the resin to do it's Job.

Which is "What exactly is the difference between Lahmian Medium and a product like Liquitex Matte Medium or LIquitex Glaze Medium?" And the only answers I ever get are "well they're the same. So have fun." Obviously they aren't exactly the same. And I see here just what that difference finally is. Awesome video.

    I think we need to summarize a little, I watched 3 or 4 of your excellent videos about home-making washes and now medium... and I'm a vit confused/astonished :D
    In the end it all boils down to: RATIOS. The ingredients seems to be the same: color/inks (I have yet to understand if ink is better for washes though), deionised/distilled water and matte medium.
    More water for glazes and very slippery washes.
    More matte medium for washes that stays a little on the surfaces without slipping only in recesses.
    Do I get it right? :)
    Your videos are amazing, thanks! You are a staple of this hobby!

    Afraid to say, what you’ve made is not Lahmian Medium. When commercial Lahmian dries out it leaves a solid lump of plastic-like material about 50% of its volume. This suggests it must contain at least 50% acrylic resins of the type you get in Matte Medium or floor polish. You’ve still made a useful paint thinner but t’ain’t Lahmian, mate!

    Hey guys, I guess I'm doing something wrong, but it seems like after adding the matt medium to distilled water, I have some particles flowing all over the bottle that don't want to dissolve, but it also creates foam on the top after shaking up. Few minutes later when it settles, all of the matt medium seems to sit on top. Here is a picture (photos.app.goo.gl/Ta7qEkM8YUPuUmHu7). When I try it with de-ionized water it seems to dissolve better, but there is still foam at the top (photos.app.goo.gl/s5we6aZrEe458PAH9). In both cases I cannot seem to achieve the same results as shown in the video. Thanks in advance.

    • @dimligloing
      @dimligloing 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Jose Maria Demenzia This is used instead of water to thin down your acrylic model paints. The paint is pigment, water and acrylic binder to stick the pigment together and to the model after the water evaporates. As you add water to the paint there is less acrylic binder and eventually it stops working as a paint. Just like if you water down PVA it stops acting as a glue. So this medium contains acrylic to help thin the paint without destroying its ability to form a coat over the model. Artists who use acrylic for painting also have this problem and use similar mediums. Better than having your painting drop off the canvas.

    It's not clear from the video what you're testing -- is it viscosity or opacity? Or both?

    So, if lamian medium is matte medium with water, and interior clear varnish is matte medium (as mentioned in another video), does that mean I can water down interior varnish and use it like lahmian medium?

      i just finish my test brew, and it work flawlessly on normal color, but it seem not really work well with metallic paint (or it just because the paint, need further testing though)

    I've finally got round to getting a tub of matte medium. Out of curiosity, whereabouts did you get your deionised water from? Reckon poundland will sell it, or is that wishful thinking?
