It's weird how we're all so used to "always on" performances from content creators that when they just talk like the normal people they are, we think there's something wrong.
It really is jarring hearing a youtuber speak in their normal tone. its really funny how we forget that most youtubers don't talk the way they do in their videos, like Scott the Woz
I second Elliot here. Don't let soldering put you off. Especially just for 2 speaker wires. You have to learn somewhere and the speaker wires are very simple to do. Once you have that down, you can progress to bigger mods.

I feel like black A+B buttons with little white highlight dots would have made this even better. Just as a 'Kirby ate a Gameboy" nod to the buttons being Kirby's eyes. Great job all the same. its very lovely!
I did a very similar build a few years ago - the pink Kirby shell from Retro Modding (without any print or images on it), a white screen lens, transparent blue buttons and Start/Select, hand-wired LED backlighting for those buttons, v1 IPS display, rainbow color-changing LED power indicator, and USB C rechargeable battery. One of my favorite builds, but I scuffed up a bit of the shell on the front while trimming it :/

isnt the GBC just slightly larger than the Gameboy Pocket? that should work space wise at least probably hell to allign buttons and the screen right though

I get my hands on a 1Gen Pocket last week in Akihabara. It was around 20€ and in a mint condition, but with a burned in display. I ordered a Retro Pixel IPS LCD Kit and and try to build it myself by the end of the week. So yes, your Channels motivate my to do this. ☺️

If you just want to clean the contacts, using vinegar is overkill. Vinegar can corrode metal it if is left on it, so I think people telling you to clean contacts with vinegar are telling a bad (or incomplete) advice. IPA is absolutley fine in this case, I only use vinegar (and later electroplate with nickel the contacts) if it is in very bad condition.

I am currently collecting all the gear to also mod/repair (handheld) consoles. Like ESD mats, stuff to ground myself and mat, opening tools etc cause of channels like yours. I am fairly "old" with 33 by now, but your channel is such an inspiration to learn so much more than just buy and mod. Thank you for the entertaiment and if I ever mod my first GameBoy like in this video I will make sure to tweet it at ya :D

Wow I love how the shell has taken inspiration from the pink Kirby gameboy
I got that screen mod. I learned during my mod to not tighten the shell too much or you won't be able to use the screen control dial.
Wow, it's such a beautiful Gameboy! I think I'm going to try my hand at making one for my wife - Elliot makes it seem like a much less intimidating, do-able task.
Also, this video gave off ASMR, cozy vibes.
There's a mod to transplant the guts of a Gameboy Color into the shell of a DMG-01. There are also mods to give the buttons and D-Pad clicky switches.

You've already influenced me a couple of years ago and I have soldered here and there but recently I've modded my Pokémon Mini and I had to solder 2 wires and it worked first try...I was quite happy
That turned out so well. I love Kirby so it got extra points from me.

I'm mildly lactose intolerant, so about 2 years ago I stopped drinking regular milk. I've mainly had soy milk, and I can't go back to regular, it tastes really gross now.
Summary of alternative milks:
Soy: It has a creamy taste, and is great in coffees like flat whites or lattes. Doesn't work in coffees with a small amount of milk, like magics and piccolos. Great for tea
Almond: distinct Almond flavour, and is great for hot chocolates
Oat: it has a very neutral taste, and is great for all coffees. The flavour usually isn't as good as soy for coffee, but it's extremely easy to foam (it's easier to foam than regular milk), so it's perfect for coffees even with a small amount of milk such as magics. IMO, oat magics really makes the ristretto pop

Yo elliot you should make a "tips and tricks" video on soldering. And you could just link it in every description on your videos. Stuff like identifying pads, how to use flux, tinning pads. just simple tips and tricks. Currently i solder "professionally" as in its my full time job. just soldering 8 hours a day. I got the job with no experience and i thought it would be alot harder than it was. Having someone show theres techniques in depth really helped me with my job im sure tons of people would get alot of help out of it. (and do it with like bare minimum materials, Maybe get like a 20$ soldering kit on amazon and show that with the basic necessities that come included with most soldering kits you can buy)

Since this was so quick try and do a game boy restoration speed run!
I got a Gameboy worse then the first one. I purchased a lot that someone had taken time to disguise. They put all boards into also mint condition shells. It made you think o they are so clean nothing could be wrong with them. Open them up the DMG had so much corrosion that both boards where swelling up and you could see the layers. The Gameboy color had capacitors replaced in the worst way possible that the pads where lifted and they had messed up the pads on the power switch. Then the pocket same story as the color really bad lifted pads. I was so upset because what I thought was going to be mint condition Gameboys with a few issues turned into scrap.
I wish there were Kirby shells for the GBA SP, I've only found one and on top of being sold out it's expensive
So vinegar works really well, but yeah if you're ok with scrubbing a bit more, isopropyl is fine. Basically, vinegar reacts with the base that the battery is made of and neutralizes it, while being a light enough acid that it doesn't really hurt the metal or internal components.
Yeah white vinegar destroys battery corrosion perfectly

Just jumping on to say, with regards to dairy milk alternatives. I’m allergic to all milk but have found that Oat Milk from McQueens Dairies (deliver uk wide in old school glass bottles) is the best oat milk. Hazelnut milk is lovely and Sproud Pea Milk is worth a try too! I really don’t miss drinking an animals breast milk 😅!
Hey man I'm the same with cow's milk now, just goes straight through me. I didn't like almond milk. However, coconut milk I think tastes amazing and I use that as my cow milk substitute and all fine and now problems. Might not be for you, but it's great for me. Maybe give that a shot. Love your channel been watching you for ages but never sent a message.

Awesome build and maybe you should try rice milk, to me it tastes as close to cow milk as it gets.
When you mentioned milk not agreeing with you I felt that on a very personal level. Oat milk is definitely the move for cereal and coffee, but I'd go for soy as a backup. If you're not feeling a particular milk, try another brand as well. I'm not sure what brands you have immediate access to, but cheaper milks tend to be watery and not worth it. Love the gameboy work as always, would love to see another vintage walkman pop up in your future as well!
