As a farmer, I hold right to repair in very high regard. After watching Average Joe Innovations video I decided on the Snode AD80s. I bought the Snode because I’ve seen too many comments/reviews about the plastic plate inserts on the Nuobell breaking. Durability is #1 for me when spending $800+.
First day impressions:It arrived in a waist high box. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxP26Tir6n60vUkdtn4mbwhRO8cwuJQNy2 Each dumbbell was in its own foam box within the shipping box. Everything was secure and in good shape. No weird smells. The weight changing mechanism is really smooth and straight forward. Changing weight is really fast and easy. Though the handle is plastic, I don't think it will be breaking anytime soon. So far pretty impressed after my first session with them. I was afraid they were going to be too wide at first, but I didn't have any issues with them while doing upright rows.
I'm hoping Nuobell upgrades their cradle and handles in response to all these head-to-head videos showing their durability is their Achilles heel. I like my Nuobells, but I'm definitely expecting them to fail within the five year extended warranty I got with them. I'm hoping the replacement parts will be stronger, so it's a one-time replacement/upgrade.
If Nuobell can fix some of the durability issues I've seen comments on, I think it will be a hard product to beat. I'd also love it if they extended the handle slightly to let the Jayflex Hyperbell attachments work with it.
It would make more sense for the Snodes to take advantage of the longer handle and manufacture a C-shaped magnetic plate (that contoured around the inner ring) that could attach to the inside of the dumbbell so you don’t have those bulky things hanging off the end. Have them in 1.25, 2.5, and 5 lb increments and you would have incremental adjustments and the ability to go up to 90 lbs. If you paired that with another 5 or 10 lb magnetic plate that could attach to the end and you could easily get up to 110 lbs per dumbbell.
The plastic on the snodes doesnt affect the durability because there in no tension on those parts, @Averagejoeinnovations broke it down in his channel, coop not everything has to be metal to be durable ,plus snode offers parts replacement 7:467:46
Then why are like 1 in 3 reviews about how the handle or handles stopped being able to be adjusted though there were no drops? Obviously something in there is flimsy. Literally like every 3rd review on google, amazon, etc. is 1 star and basically said for this reason they became useless.
Nuobell just needs a bit more metal construction and it would be the all time king of adjustable dumbbells. Snode needs 5lbs increments and that alone would probably close the gap to Nuobells and consumers buying choice.
This was the first time I realized that part of the Nuobell durability issues are linked to the low starting weight, and per the video, they're already 1.5 lbs over the stated '5lb'. Add a bit more metal, and they're going to be overshooting 5lbs even more. Personally, I think adding another pound in exchange for significantly more durability is a fine tradeoff. However, they could make their cradle rock solid without sacrificing anything. It's even beneficial for the cradle to have more weight, so it stays in place as you rack and unrack the weights. I'm really hoping to see Nuobell respond to the durability concerns with better replacement parts.

Got the AD80s for 3 months now and they are incredibly durable. I don't think the 1.1 inches length difference is some kind of problem, just because their handles are longer, which is very suitable for my big hands. The most important thing is, it is a dumbbell but not some fragile things, I really enjoy the knocking sounds between plates when I put them back in the cradle. And I know these are unbreakable!!💪💪
I have had the Nuo's for over a year without any real issues. The stand is very nice too. Before that, I has the Soloflex 90's. I've never dropped either of them in a couple of decades of combined use, so I'm ok with durability. It's not like they are over a hundred pounds and you would need to drop them after a set. At this weight, they are more for accessory work than compounds anyway. I've never tried the Snodes, but I'm sure they are good too. Kind of like picking a Ferrari or Lamborghini, they both are great at the job, and a lot depends on individual preferences. Actually glad to hear the Nuobell handles are a bit heavier than claimed--I've been lifting more that I thought :) Love the dumbbell reviews! Ok, back to my back workout....
After watching this video and your Pepin 120 Fast video... I ended up going with the Pepins. Those just seem to be the best in the industry right now. Pricey, but they seemed like that were worth the price. That lifetime warranty is clutch as well.
Going with Snode AD80. I also think the Snode stand is well designed and solid being cast iron. To me, the Nuobell stand seems generic, especially with so many Nuobells-style knockoffs now on the market. I'd suggest reviews include the stands as it was also part of my decision. I have smaller hands so I hope the longer handle of the Snode isn't a negative. In all honesty would've preferred a rubber hex set but space and cost is a factor. Not to mention the amount of total weight a hex set is 5-80lbs pairs. My gym is second floor of a house and total weight is a consideration.
Coop you guys like you and Basement Brandon are lucky IMO to get these really expensive dumbbells for free just to make videos on and give your opinions that's pretty awesome because they're not cheap obviously and it would be awesome to have them for sure!

Would love to see a bracket style elimination video of all the adjustable dumbbells. Put them all against each other with comparisons like this video and see who comes out on top
I don't know. I think it makes a lot more sense to do it like this, matching up the dbs that appeal to the same general group. For example, the people who swear by the ironmasters and similar dbs have very different priorities than the people who like these, never mind those who like the bowflex and similar. They prize durability and the ability to go heavy above everything else. Its apples to oranges, IMO.
I was considering the Nuobells, but the durability of the Snodes is what matters to me. I dont want to be overly concerned being delicate with my dumbbells while working out
@13:57 Nuo Bell does have wobble with the relationship between the weights and the handle. This wobble comes from a little play in adjustment mechanism. The set I had did have this wobble. I have never held the Snode before.
Honestly I've heard SO MANY PEOPLE break the nuobells, I think the dropping section is much more imporant than the rest of them tbh, especially with heavier weights
Great video! I'm JUST starting to research home gym setups. I came in knowing nothing about any of this stuff and left feeling well informed. Thanks for communicating the important info so well!
I ended up ordering the Snodes. My wife, teenage son, and his friends all use my home gym and durability is a big issue. @AverageJoeInnovationsLLC did a breakdown of the Nuobells and it was concerning that they could end up breaking down even just with normal use. I've also seen reports of the handle breaking after accidentally rolling off a bench. That said, I'm disappointed with the "nub" magnets they include with the Snodes since they look like they interfere with setting the dumbbells up on your thighs. I may end up just ordering some PlateMates since those lie flat.
I just ordered the snodes. I'm thinking they can also go on the inside of the dumbell without interfering with your hands. There are also some 3rd party options.
I was just watching your other video and hoping you would release this soon. This video is great! made my decision easier, I was debating for a while. Thanks a lot!
@@dawgsfanatic1319 That is essentially the battle. I'm going with the snode for durability. I feel with whichever you choose, you might always be curious about the other.
Rec’d an email from Snode - they are overwhelmed with production due to high demand. Therefore, the 6-8 week projection for shipping appears to be more realistic.
You are the man Coop! Thanks so much for making these videos. I'm in need of some heavier adjustable dumbbells and have been researching online. Think I've watched around 15 videos already and 80% of them have been reviews by you. Currently using Boflex 552s which I've outgrown, plus they hurt like hell on the thighs when kicking them up or resting them. I think the Nuobells are exactly what I need. The cost is going to hurt a bit but doable. I'll be sure to use your link when I order them. It's only fair since your honest reviews is what sold them to me. Thanks!
Considering that buying fixed dumbbells with storage rack would cost at least 2x, it's actually pretty cheap. I paid almost 1.5k for only up to 50lbs set fixed dumbbells with rack. I would never get PowerBlock's or Nuobell's because there are too many plastic parts, but Snode's look very appealing to me.
Powerblock is know for durability but the design is too bulky for me I can’t get my self to pull the trigger. Nuobells break by the handles if you drop them. Each brand seems to have cons lol
In the UK the Nuobell 2-32kg are £699 with a stand costing £159 from a reputable firm. You can buy a set of rubber coated from Mirafit 5-30kg in 2.5kg increments but missing the 22.5kg pair on a rack which is only around 40% bigger footprint than the nuobell stand for £1000. There is no comparison, you get 10 pairs of dumbells that will last a lifetime and take up little more room for less than 20% more. I know they have to pay for development costs and take up a bit less room etc . But really they are not worth anything like what they are priced at.
I have a home gym (with enough space) and was looking at the nuobells, purely because I also love bait of tech and gadgetry. This comment just convinced me to go with a full set from Mirafit without any worry of ever damaging the weights from drops (not that I really drop weights) Thanks a lot :)
Great Review! I’ve had the nuobells for a couple years and love them. I do wish I could drop them after a heavy bench press set though. Anyways, keep up the good work, Coop!
The 5lbs increments and quick changeability of the Nuobells is enough to keep me from the wants. My wife uses our home gym so it’s a must to either have adjustable with smaller increments otherwise I would just dedicate the space to a full dumbbell rack . Also I would never trust magnets while pressing over head or face 😂 bad idea
I see the more benefits Nuobell has but to be honest the durability is just too important comparing to 1 more inch in lenght or colour choices or other benefits. If i would buy i would buy Snode.
I should have gone witn Nuobells. I know you really like the "click" or feel of the change which is one reason you like Nuobells. One thing you didn't say, is the Snode dial is very plastic sounding and the dial numbers must be glued on or something and is wavy...like it wasn't glued on smoothly. The adder weights aren't worth buying and I wonder who on earth came up with that design to put to thick knobs to dig into your legs. I regret buying these!
Good video. I had to go with the SNODE only because the build quality is definitely better. I tend to drop my dumbbells from time to time and I'm certain those NUOBELLS will break.
Thanks for this comparison. I have the Nuobell 550 and I just got the upgrade kit to make into the 580. The plastic parts was not an issue as I do not drop it purposely anyway. The upgrade kit I got has a damaged plastic part but Nuobell and my Canadian dealer had the replacement part and it was easy to replace. The design indeed is smart. the 5lb increment is indeed important for the average home gym user. I am based in Ontario, Canada for context. I almost bought the Snode AD80 but thanks to your reviews, I decided to just upgrade my Nuo550. More power to your channel.
Between these two, Snode dominates and it isnt even close. If Snode made a 100+ pound adjustable dumbbell with this same build quality, they would easily be the best adjustables on the market. However, for now if you want a heavier set, the Pepins are great if you can bite the bullet on the price.
@@enrikoalfaro6724 there is missing info for category wins. handle is chrome of snode, plastic on nuo, gearing is far superior on snode, reparability of the most likely component to fail inside handle is way better. I had the nuos they were great but broke within 2 weeks of very gentle use. for the price point i would not go with something fragile, if you trip over them while laying out, $800 in the garbage.
Imagine if they had a love child. Something that had the best of each. I have the Nuobells. I do enjoy them. But, I'm thinking of adding the Pepins eventually.
It would be cool if Snode made weight clips that easily attach to either side of the handles to add 5lbs. You could then clip them on and off for 5lbs increments.
Thank you so much man appreciate your expertise out of the two I chose new Bell by a punked out , saved $400 and got the Bowflex adjustable dumbbells I might live to regret it because of the aesthetics and quality of the engineering but again thank you for your time and expertise
I thought Nuobells would be number 1 - until i got a pair. To me, theh are still too fragile - always have to be extra careful with putting then down after heavy presses. As well, the plates misalign too often when I put them away. Overall, I liked my old powerblocks better - although they have their own downsides it was just easier using them since I wasnt worried about about them breaking.
ANOTHER Adjustable dumbell review!!! If I was being a cynic, I would say Coup does this cause it earn him the most commission. Sad cause there is so much more out there to review!!
To summarize, the Nuobells won because: - Nuobells are shorter/more balanced/better warranty/better adjustment mechanism/5lb increments/colors. - Snode's advantages are that the cradle and dumbbell are more durable. In reality though, Snode has the better warranty now (same duration, but allows them to be dropped), the adjustment mechanism is virtually identical in that they both take seconds (and arguably, the Snode's fixed handle is better), the 1" length/balance difference is 6% of total length and is probably unnoticeable, and no one cares about color options. The only relevant advantage Nuobells have is 5lb increments, which you can work around by using magnetic adder weights (although the ones Snode has are pretty terrible, but you can diy your own), but you can't workaround the fact that Nuobells are disposable equipment at an $800 price point. Snode still has room for improvement: most importantly, create improved adder weights that attach to the inside plates, and the plates could be improved by making them a bit bigger/thinner and flattened to prevent them from rolling away. But to conclude Nuobells are better makes no sense.
I got the snodes and they feel solid. Real iron weighs. The handles feel better than the ones at the gym imo. There’s a little slack in them but it’s not a big deal to me at all
I am surprised that there was no mention of the 50Ib Nuobell option which is what I woujld get (maybe I missed it), reducing price to $600---also a factor that I like to consider is how quick customer service is replying to queries/parts. On that note, I would like to add I left a message at Nuobell but they never called back--others might be able to chime in on these companies' service responsiveness.
I’ve had the nuobells since December 2021. Sold my Ironmaster dumbbells for them and came out ahead price-wise. Nuobells are still just like new. No ragrets.
Man I personally wouldn’t. I’ll keep my Ironmasters forever. Lifetime guarantee. Only one I may part with it for is Pépin fast but even that I can see the Ironmasters outlasting it. I also have powerblocks for drop sets but Ironmasters for durability is number 1
@@marucat2797 Yeah, the new owners don't get the lifetime guarantee. I cherish my ironmasters more than my car. lol. My car has depreciated while my iron masters have appreciated. I think I got them for around $600 with the stand.

Great review. Durability is a major concern for me so I am leaning Snode. Curious what people’s thoughts are on a comparison between Snode and Powerblock. I want something that will last years and years (like Powerblock) but I also like the versatility of a conventional style dumbbell (like Snode). Anyone else torn between those two?
I had a set of powerblocks, the cage design worked great for some workouts likely overhead single dumbbell tricep extensions with a wider grip. However, it worked against me during other workouts. The power blocks I owned had a nub stick out of the plates that frequently caught the pockets of my pants which was super annoying. I have a set of iron masters which are awesome, but doesn't allow me to do super sets easily. I'm adding the snodes AD80 for durability and supersetss. Hoping the magnets work well. If not, there are always the platemates. I think the 5 lb increments are important and the biggest downer for me.
i owned the power blocks they were great but were only 50lbs i needed a heavier weight i was going to go nuobell but i bumped into snode i liked the overall build quality and i haven't been disappointed since purchasing them … nuobell looked to cheap to me ..
Regarding the handle. I like to buy tennis racket grip and tup on it. It will make it grip good. And it is soft. And also will add thickness to the handle.
Anything is better than the Nuobells. Mine broke 6 weeks after buying them and that was from very gently setting them down on the floor. Never dropped them, they just aren't designed to really be used with more than 35lbs or else they will snap like a paper twig.
I prefer the durability. As far as weight is concerned it doesnt bother me having 10lb changes....ill either to a few more or a few less reps....i always train to failure and try to have perfect form and i tend to not count my reps. Form over weight and reps.

I was considering the Nuobells, but the durability of the Snodes is what matters to me. I dont want to be overly concerned being delicate with my dumbbells while working out
should get the weights of the total dumbell to see which is actually closer or over 80lbs
@13:57 Nuo Bell does have wobble with the relationship between the weights and the handle. This wobble comes from a little play in adjustment mechanism. The set I had did have this wobble. I have never held the Snode before.
hey coop, huge fan
just checked out SNODE, their warranty is 2 years now by default
Honestly I've heard SO MANY PEOPLE break the nuobells, I think the dropping section is much more imporant than the rest of them tbh, especially with heavier weights
Great video! I'm JUST starting to research home gym setups. I came in knowing nothing about any of this stuff and left feeling well informed. Thanks for communicating the important info so well!
Snode is now showing a 2 year warranty on their site! Just a heads up :)
pepins are the undeniable king right now. Price point is nutty though
“Best Reviewed Dumbbells”
Ironmaster : 😲
Nuobells different colors can vary in cost. The negative reviews I’ve seen on Nuobell is them breaking or even breaking while being delivered.
I was just watching your other video and hoping you would release this soon. This video is great! made my decision easier, I was debating for a while. Thanks a lot!
Well…what did you decide to go with? The addition of 5 lb increments or a more durable product?
@@dawgsfanatic1319 That is essentially the battle. I'm going with the snode for durability. I feel with whichever you choose, you might always be curious about the other.
@@dawgsfanatic1319 I went with Nuobell because of the 5 lb increments.
Thanks!
I just picked up the Nuobell, absolutely amazing
Vs pepin please
Yes please
Waiting for the NuoSnodeBell
The 5lbs increments and quick changeability of the Nuobells is enough to keep me from the wants. My wife uses our home gym so it’s a must to either have adjustable with smaller increments otherwise I would just dedicate the space to a full dumbbell rack . Also I would never trust magnets while pressing over head or face 😂 bad idea
Righteous stache, man.
I don't know if I can believe anything Coop says after he commented that he only wants 1 set of dumbbells.
I ordered the snode after the 1st vid in them... They better win 🤞🤞🤞🤞
Same! 6-8 weeks for delivery though 👎🏼👎🏼
i have the snode AD80'S they are super solid …
Between these two, Snode dominates and it isnt even close. If Snode made a 100+ pound adjustable dumbbell with this same build quality, they would easily be the best adjustables on the market. However, for now if you want a heavier set, the Pepins are great if you can bite the bullet on the price.
We must have watched a different video.
That's what I'm looking for.
Even a half moon x4 to puzzle together to mold around each inner side.
Octabell adjustable dumbbell review!
Asked about snode a year ago in the comment section. Went with baad ass dumbells. Wish you would of done this review alot sooner
Thank you so much man appreciate your expertise out of the two I chose new Bell by a punked out , saved $400 and got the Bowflex adjustable dumbbells I might live to regret it because of the aesthetics and quality of the engineering but again thank you for your time and expertise
Those are plastic made lol. Let me know how long they last until the plastic breaks
@@josegarza7719why break balls maybe all he can afford, no need being an ass
I thought Nuobells would be number 1 - until i got a pair. To me, theh are still too fragile - always have to be extra careful with putting then down after heavy presses. As well, the plates misalign too often when I put them away. Overall, I liked my old powerblocks better - although they have their own downsides it was just easier using them since I wasnt worried about about them breaking.
ANOTHER Adjustable dumbell review!!! If I was being a cynic, I would say Coup does this cause it earn him the most commission. Sad cause there is so much more out there to review!!
To summarize, the Nuobells won because:
- Nuobells are shorter/more balanced/better warranty/better adjustment mechanism/5lb increments/colors.
Pls compare Nuobell vs Snode vs Pepin
I wish the Nuobell or Snode was a bit cheaper than I would get a pair. Hopefully can find a used pair at some point. Excellent review thanks.
If im paying $800 to $1000 for a dumbbell it better have a good warranty and durability should be fantastic
A big benefit of the Snodes are the 40 kg max weight as opposed to 32 kg of Nuobells (if you’re in the EU).
That's tough when the website is telling you two different prices, hate to be the person who didn't find the "code" and paid full price.
Great review!
Saks fifth Avenue often has coupons that can be used for the nuobells that they sell.
I got the snodes and they feel solid. Real iron weighs. The handles feel better than the ones at the gym imo. There’s a little slack in them but it’s not a big deal to me at all
Review needed on the jacked up fitness power rack !
Have you reviewed the Octabell Adjustable Dumbbells yet? Was curious if they were any good?
Not surprised he picked Nuobells
@@Doctorartpt it’s funny I was going to part with my 120lb kit but I said no ways. Like you said, Ironmasters is gold. I’ll take it over all the new adjustables out there.
@@marucat2797 The ironmasters were awesome, but I favor the speed of adjustment over the durability. I’m not a hardcore lifter by any means and take care of my equipment. If these failed after their warranty period, I would likely by the same set or whatever is equivalent the same day. Now if ironmasters change up their design, I’ll be first in line. I have their V2 super bench with several attachments and love it.
@@jmagnum15 what I noticed in comparison to say powerblocks is when doing push exercises like shoulder presses or dumbbell flat presses I prefer the ironmasters due to its stability and even distribution of the weight. I think nuobells, Snode, and pepin fasts also would feel like the Ironmasters but this where for me powerblocks feel awkward. I definitely want to try the pepin fast though
Could you make a video of the best compact home gym with only essential/highest quality.
That has everything that you'll need stomach/back/calves/armes/legs/shoulders/neck etcetera.
I'm building my first home gym and I only want the best of the best: buy once!
Equipment for life!
I have a low square foot to use!
I love your clips i'm going to send back the puzzelmats I ordered and get rubber flooring instead!
Durability FTW! Ordered the Snode AD80s. Hopefully they don’t take 6-8 weeks to reach my residence…
I ordered mine over 2 weeks ago and at the time it said they would ship out by May 31st. I think they've been getting backlogged since Coop did his original review.
@@Jeremy-mc8ee Coop should be the face of the company. Snode needs to make 5lb increment weights!
Just ordered mines as well over a week ago. Hopefully it comes within a month.
@@traderhines76 me too. Excited about getting it. Thinking the magnets will be enough to address the 10 lb increment issue?
@@Doctorartpt TBH, the 10 increment issue doesn’t bother me. However, I will get the micro gainz add on and plate mates to make the dumbbells 90 pounds.
You have to compare the NouBells, Pepin Fast, SnodeAD80 and TruLaps
Great Video 🔥🔥👍🏼 thanks to Coop and GGR Team, helped me with my decision
@@Doctorartpt that’s super helpful, thank you.
i owned the power blocks they were great but were only 50lbs i needed a heavier weight i was going to go nuobell but i bumped into snode i liked the overall build quality and i haven't been disappointed since purchasing them … nuobell looked to cheap to me ..
@@CJScratchcurious… why didn’t you just buy the expansion 50-70lb or 70-90lb set?
Thanks for the comparison, that helps a lot.
Will you review the trulap 8592 dumbbells? It seems to be a great contender !
Placed an order for the new matte black Nuobell dumbbells, they’re using aluminum for the grips making it better for outdoor use and humidity.
I own Nuobells and the knurling is passive. For 80lb dumbbells, the knurling should be more aggressive.
Agreed. That's my only complaint right now. When my hands get even a little sweaty the knurling isn't quite enough.
Can you please do a comparison between the Trulap Adjustable Dumbbells vs the NÜOBELLs.
Regarding the handle. I like to buy tennis racket grip and tup on it. It will make it grip good. And it is soft. And also will add thickness to the handle.
Can you do a review on the trulaps 8592 dumbbells, they replace 52 dumbells and go up to 92lbs
Are the trulaps better than these?
Why do adjustable dumbbells intrigue me so much? Not that I own any.
Let’s see a Trulap vs nuobell dumbbell review
Will plate mates attach to the nuobells?
Snodes site shows it has a 2 year warranty now. They must have seen your video!!!
Anything is better than the Nuobells. Mine broke 6 weeks after buying them and that was from very gently setting them down on the floor. Never dropped them, they just aren't designed to really be used with more than 35lbs or else they will snap like a paper twig.
“I only want one set of dumbbells”
Filmed in front of hundreds of dumbbells
I have knock off Nuos and they are awesome!! Been using them for 7 months or so, not perfect but very good for the price.
20% off stated weight seems like a lot. Be like a 45 pound plate actually weighing 54. Made me wonder how consistent they were within the pair.
I’ve yet to weigh a plate or dumbbell and have it MORE than 1% heavier. The almost always shortchange
I prefer the durability. As far as weight is concerned it doesnt bother me having 10lb changes....ill either to a few more or a few less reps....i always train to failure and try to have perfect form and i tend to not count my reps. Form over weight and reps.
Great review! Thank you. Have you used the dumbbell hangers with either? The hangers are the spotter equipment that let you hang them from a bar when doing DB benchpress.
That feeling when your comment from a previous video ends up in the current video 😅
