As an Christian elder and minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ, I can undoubtedly say that this was one of the best messages that I have ever heard on TH-cam!
There is nothing to add.... just a word of encouragement to keep sharing forgiveness, love and an opportunity to receive and enjoy the free gift!
God bless you Paul and Jay!

It's called Stoicism Uncle Pauly! Finding the joy in the mundane, the beauty in the ordinary. What others consider boring is in fact a wonderful life. I didn't realise just how fulfilled my grandfather was until I came to understand that idea. He would happily sit for hours just listening and watching. When he spoke, however, you knew he had considered it deeply.
    Keep being boring.

Nonsense. Boring is stressful as your wanting to chase bikinis but don’t have enough self esteem to try so you end up watching TH-cam and keep doing all the things that doesn’t really make you happy instead of doing the things you do so you become bored and stressed. Not a good combination so grab your speedo and show the ladies your pot bellied hula dance.

I'm not a Catholic but I woke up and told my fiancee that we needed to attend Easter Mass which she did not expect to hear from the Christian American. She was so proud to go with/take me to Mass that day. Good people are good people which may sound corny but if it's in your heart it will come out.

You are so very fortunate to experience such great spiritual insights in your retirement years in the Philippines. I've already developed some of that, which is strange while still being in the US. I used to work 50 to 70 hours a week, made a ton of money, and was miserable. About 4 years ago, I started turning down all overtime after remembering a good friend of mine who years ago told me "No one on their death bed ever said Damn it, I wish I spent more time at work!" Thing is, after all that my ex took all that money I made. Poof. Now I am an average 60 year old man getting ready to retire in a year and a half. Invisible here in the States. No other goals other than retire in Bacolod makes one strange here. That's okay, because I get to watch everyone get miserable on the gerbil wheel trying to get "ahead" while sitting contentedly in the park or wherever.

Sounds familiar, good to get out before it's too late. A lot of my past co-workers developed medical problems, were miserable and some past away maybe due to stress. One of my best friends worked a lot all the way up to retirement, he retired, then when I visited him at home he was talking about just coming back from the office. I told him that he did not go to the office and that he retired a while ago. Eventually, turned out that he entered into a dementia stage. It was happening as he thought he was still working. I helped out getting him help. He went from hospital to assisted living to nursing home to death. His home was paid off, had a large amount of money in the bank and it's all gone by the vultures.

Watching you helped me make the decision I’ve been trying to make for 11 years and really retire. September will be two years since I turned off the television. Now I need to turn off the desire to get up and go do something for somebody else and start doing something for me and with my wife.
I’ll keep watching and I might just pass through your area in October and say hello. I last five weeks in the Philippines was the most relaxing time I’ve had and I’m looking forward to that again. Jesus is not for the perfect people he came to allow those of us who are not perfect to keep trying and doing the best we can. You have found happiness I am working on that myself! One of your crazy people! Thank you for being you!

Excellent video Paul. Many years ago in Canada, I climbed that crazy "ladder to success" and became very "successful". It also brought great anxiety, failure and grief. After beating my head against that impenetrable wall, I finally leaped straight out of the box and moved here to stay with my Filipina wife. We live a very simple life in the provinces on a tiny pension but we manage. Life is very slow and boring and I love it!

We cast our worries upon Him. Trusting Him. It's a life of joy apart from the world's measure. God bless you, Paul.

I bought into the “success” program for 55 years and I WAS successful. The minute I decided to retire though I put that behind me. It was a career and a life I was mostly proud of but now that is over and it is the time to do something else like have my own version of a successful retirement. i go to the movies. Read books. Swim in the pool. Visit a museum. I get a massage. Travel locally a little. Mostly I am in the condo with my wife. Once a week I go out and meet English speaking friends. I never had an identity problem with retirement. I am a retiree. Getting rid of all my possessions to move to Thailand . . . I call that a success!

when i started to make decent money towards the end of my career, i just lived the same except paid off all debts and saved money. retired at 61. now 65 (nearly 66)... focus on losing weight and getting in good shape. biking 1 to 2 hours a day. living in canada. nice house but in no way rich. unfortunately my wife is ill and i really cannot travel. i enjoy your mental attitude. success is what each individual thinks it is. my concept of success is being kind.

I know this is a little older video Paul but what you basically mention in this video is the art of not giving a F about what others think. I stopped caring what other think of me about 10 years ago, if they don't pay my bills or live my life then I don't an F what people think or say about me. It's made my life so much more enjoyable. I'm 53 and my 5 year plan is to move there and live out a happy and relaxing retirement.

In my opinion, Paul let himself become the product of his culture when he was living in the USA.I've been living in the US all my life and I have no desire to keep up with the Joneses or to buy the latest greatest gadget just because everyone else has one.For the most part, You can live the kind of life you want to in the good old USA.Paul, you do have the power of volition. You don't have to go along with the crowd, especially in the land of Individuality.I enjoy your channel.

I am SOO glad you shared the story about Jay! You did a wonderful job of passing along the calming, inspirational message he had that day!
I had the fortune of a 5 week visit to the Cebu area in the late 90's at the urging of a friend. Short story is, I loved it so much, I've spoke of returning ever since. My opportunity is nearing. I plan to return within a year or so.
I think you have a perfectly boring, PERFECT life there where you are!
Please keep up the lessons, news and stories!
You are great at it, and it IS as informative as you are hoping it to be!!!

Your young barber has been blessed by God. As difficult as the path may be which lies ahead for him, he will continue to be blessed. Thanks so much for sharing his story, Paul.

Paul, I still like listening to you, even that I do not agree on few occasions. And this is one of them.
Being ordinary is easy, does not require much. Being successful is way harder as it requires a lot of effort.
It is very common and natural when you achieve something, you would like to share that experience with others. It bores those majority who did not achieve it and inspires the minority of those who would like to learn on experience of successful ones. Answer yourself in which group you are.
That is why most people are not wealthy and criticizing wealthy helps them justify the position they are in.

As a retiree though I view that success as being in the past. You can be proud of past success but mostly the path I and others are on now is more interesting.

Boring is good. That has helped me save money. No get rich schemes, going on cruises, gambling, lottery tickers or buying a lot of things I don't really need. My idea of going out to eat is cooking a hot dog over a fire. Follow the herd and you will be just like the herd. I married a Filipina, brought her to Arizona and am very happy. Very hard working, with a pleasant disposition. Sent her to a cooking school before she came over and she loves it. I can't wait to send her to an advanced cooking class in the Philippines and drop another $2000 as she loves that stuff. I saved her from a slow, painful life and she is happy every day. Love your channel.

Paul I've been watching your vlog for about a year and I knew you were special ! Your testimony about the young barber, Jay, was very moving! You may not realize how much you are impacting the people who watch your videos. I was born again in 2014 at the age of 66. All my life I thought I was a Christian because I went to church and thought I was a good person. I found out later thankfully that my only way to be saved was by confessing my sin to God, repenting, and claiming Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. It was because my second wife, a Filipina, steered me in the right direction. I know it wasn't just by chance that I met her because God had it planned for me that way. Because of my being born again I'm at peace. Paul, keep doing what you're doing. God bless you brother! Best wishes always. Don Haren, Clearwater,Florida

You are successful, Paul. You're 67 years old. That's a big success. You also have a pension large enough to support your way of life. You have a marvelous girlfriend. Paul, I want to be as successful as you. By the way, I'm 69. Retiring to the Philippines next year.

Thanks Paul, sometimes we Christians, need to be reminded of this. We all fall short of the grace of God. He continues to pick us up, brush off the dust and forgives us as long as we believe. I never belived that until later in life. I didn't figure it out until I was into my 50's. So this guy was 23 years old - probably a lot younger. I wished I would have got it back then, it would have saved me and those who knew me, a lot of grief. Ok I will get off the pulpit - I am debating on retiring to the Philippines or Panama. I will be 65 next month. Healthy but struggling with the decision.
