    I'd say the vintage lizard ones are circa 1975-1980. That's based on the style, heal, height and toe. 60s and before would have had sharper toes, snip toes, and more slanted heals, Iguana lizard didn't really get used until alligator hide was banned. And alligator was about the only real exotic used on western boots up until the ban. Go back to the 50s and before and the heals get higher and even more slanted. Shaft height went up and down with fashion. Real working cowboy boots of that era were about 12-15" tall, high, slanted riding heals, thick veg tan soles and a narrowing toe, rounded at the tip.

    I planned on skipping through this video since it’s pretty lengthy, but once I started watching, I couldn’t stop. You do great work and I love the attention to detail. Would have liked to see how you nailed those heels through the inside of the boot.. I’m assuming there’s a tool for that? Keep up the good work, can’t wait to see more!

    Fantastic resole job on both pairs. I have 2 pairs of the newer Hyer's, Hays and Spearville. I like them and built quite well. Reasonable prices also.

    *Those boots look amazing! Thank you for sharing a very thorough video about these cowboy boots! It was so informative!*
    *With cowboy boots, would having a midsole make them too stiff for walking? I'm asking since it's something I noticed with many cowboy boots. I've read that having an outer sole is sufficient.*

    • @Theshoeman02
      @Theshoeman02  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I personally prefer to have a midsole on my boots. It’s a lot more comfortable, but yes it would make them a little bit more stiffer, but will break in no problem.

    Great idea for a video. I own some vintage HYER boots, so I appreciate the comparison with the new generation of boots. The new ones appear to be high quality and are well priced. In your video, the lining on the vintage pair looks like pigskin while the new ones look like thin cow leather. Am I right about that and is one preferable to the other?

      All that being said, boots from Leon aren't anything to sneeze at. So do whatever you like, but get them at these prices if you want them because the made in USA boots will be at least $200 more expensive, most likely.

    They should introduce more boot styles, not just roper and cowboy boots.

    • @Briebabcock8052
      @Briebabcock8052 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I think maybe they will, but their main customer is gunna be the working cowboy/cowgirl and those who ride horses and such plus those who want those styles. The problem with many mondern western boots is too much textile material and not enough being made out of genuine leather, including vegetan leather which lasts longer and has more durability than the vast majority of shoes and boots made from textile materials. That's just my thought process though
