I’m a full time shoe cobbler, which means I fix shoes, bags, wallets and other leather goods. My goal is to take old, used shoes and bring them back to their former glory, and back into this world. Oliver, I’m trying my hand at replacing the sole and welts on my shoes. My question is what size and type threaded do I use to sew the wilt on and what size and type thread do I use to sew on the sole? Thank you from a want to be cobbler
@@charlesfurgerson I’m not to sure what size my thread is for sewing welts on, but it’s just a waxed thread that you can order online and you can use the same thing for sewing the soles on

Interesting vid and a nice change of pace from the usual men's boots & shoes. For feedback, bringing the music down about 4dB will really help with making sure your voiceover isn't drowned out

@@Theshoeman02 There's also a cool trick called a high pass filter in EQ that you can search on TH-cam and it really helps put your voice in front of the music. Your channel has the recipe elements for great growth and glad to see you're making small changes here and there to keep improving :D

Can regular stichdown shoes be able to get this type of construction. I know it’s not possible with regular Blake stitch.
@@zombis89fisto so you could Blake Stitch a Stitchdown shoe but it’s not necessary because the soles are stitched to the uppers already. The only difference between a Blake Stitch & a Rapid Blake Stitched shoe is that the soles are outsole stitched whereas a Blake stitched shoe is only stitched from the inside. So it is possible to convert a Blake Stitch to a Rapid Blake Stitch.
That upper is elephant leather. It looks very similar to hippo but you can see the bumps of a typical elephant boot.

Why does it matter?
Couldn't the customer just have rubber sole protectors added to the existing leather soles, especially since these boots are new? Get the same grip but at less cost?

@@michaelgarretson5519 I’m actually working on a personal pair of Lucchese Boots where I’m relasting them from a square toe to a round toe, and I’ll be putting a leather midsole on those.

@@mwilliamshs unfortunately I cannot film every little detail. All I did was use a little bit of Angelus Acrylic Leather Dye as a base coat, and then used a matching shoe cream after it dried

Hey if I was to send you a pair of brand new Thursday shoes. How much rough estimate would it cost to do full jr soles and dove tail combo heals?
@@siruspietroski776 so base price for my JR soles and dovetail heels are $225. If you wanted to add a midsole we have a few colored rubber midsoles to choose from, as well as a thin leather and a thick leather midsole. Rubber midsoles are an extra $10, the Thin leather is an extra $20, and the thick leather is an extra $35. With the $225, You get to choose your color stitching both top and bottom, as well as edge finish.
