You tell on yourself in the first 2 min. Optimism is not on its own a strong enough reason to stay in a toxic relationship. Optimism also goes: "It's ok if we break up, I'll be fine, amd I'll find a new, healthy partner in the right time."

Nietzsche is not a nihilist. Instead, he predicted that the common man would go through the stages of religion -> nihilism -> existential crisis -> comfort seeking. He also predicted that certain individuals, the Ubermensch he endorses so much, would instead be more like religion -> nihilism -> existential revival -> self-inflicted trials/embracing suffering -> life lived as a form of art itself. It is not right to call him a nihilist when he so often, very, very often, constantly degraded those who would only stop at nihilistic conclusions of life.
He wrote in his later years about the Eternal Reoccurrence, meaning to envision life being infinite means one would likely experience living the exact same life you are now, again, and again, for all of the infinite eternity. May as well create a life you are grateful and even proud to live again. That is the point of creating one's own meaning. For him it became like his religion. Having such a meaning behind his writing automatically defeats the idea he was ever a nihilist in his works.
I think it is a shame that he died before ever finishing his 4-part series The Antichrist, he was hospitalized and died in hospice after finishing only the first volume. But Nietzsche wrote that he was only breaking down the past philosophies that lead to nihilistic, pointless life, so that future philosophers could build on what little foundation he's laid to create a new and much more grand, more meaningful philosophy. In his later works, he even said, "I am finished with being a no-sayer! From this time on, let me only be---a yes-sayer!" His philosophy grew and evolved as he aged and contemplated to himself. To read only one of his early works and consider that must be his entire philosophy, is to ignore that people develop as they grow, and Nietzsche knew this, constantly reevaluating his works as he went on. One can only imagine what he would have written had he been able to finish his last project. But again, he left that to us to complete for ourselves.
It's more correct instead of calling him nihilistic, to call him something like a moral-subjectivist, but even that is missing the mark when he proclaimed himself to be antimoralist, he regularly called himself an amoralist! It's most correct to say that, Nietzsche only respected two things, the Will to Power (the desire of any being to gain ability to meet their own wants), and love (believe it or not, he wrote extensively how love was what transcended concepts of good vs evil). To call Nietzsche nihilist is to forget how much he loved life itself, and how deeply he yearned for people to love living life as extensively as they could, for people to become something they venerated as much as one would a god. That's the essential meaning behind The Antichrist, to become anti-Christian, needing no god or savior, and ascending to greatness through one's own will alone.

No, its wrong, Übermensch cannot be affected by neither nihilism or religion, Übermensch is an embodiment of life affirmation that doesnt have any views or beliefs but doesnt suffer from it, because the life as it is would be always enough for them, he is fully human and fully animal, he is amoral.

    • @brianjones9780
      @brianjones9780 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

@@kiss-shotacerola-orionhear220 To define the Ubermensch as one who has never doubted his own existence or purpose in life, or that he never in his life considered the existence of the divine, is a bit unrealistic. It has too much of the "the Ubermensch should..." in it.
If a man achieves everything the Ubermensch would be expected to achieve, and then on his deathbed says "I believe in Jesus", does that make him any less of an Ubermensch? Perhaps he would not be the exact image of Nietzsche's Ubermensch, but an Ubermensch he is anyways. The internal environment of the man is not really what matters, anyhow, it's how he affects the world.
What Nietzsche wrote, he wrote specifically saying that everything he's laying down is only groundwork, subject to revision by future philosophers. In this spirit, I posit the idea that an Ubermensch could exist and still at times ponder the divine, and even doubt the meaning behind his very existence. What matters most is that even if he suffers for these thoughts, they do not hold him back. It is not the absence of the suffering, but the *transforming* of that suffering into something life-affirming that makes him - The Ubermensch.

@@brianjones9780because saying I believe in Jesus also often implies the moral component of Christianity which is a nihilistic religion, no one that said it views it purely as some sort of creationist theory, but a moral compass to follow. That's said, Übermensch "believing in Jesus" would not be a sincere thought, but the game he plays right now, a theater play.

    • @brianjones9780
      @brianjones9780 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

@@kiss-shotacerola-orionhear220 implies the moral component? *Which* moral component? Even within any specific denomination of Christianity, there are *many* moral components that often are completely contradictory to the moral components of other denominations, or even within their own! There is no way to speak of "Christian morals" in less length than a textbook without hyper-focusing on or ignoring certain denominations of Christianity.
And after all, there are denominations of Christianity that do not care how moral or amoral a person you were, if you can believe that Jesus forgave you, you are absolved in the afterlife. It's not hard to believe a guy was put to death as an injustice to him, and he still mustered up the will to forgive everyone that ever lived anyways. There are denominations these days of Christianity that say if you can believe in that, you are a Christian. No moral behavioral obligation, only a momentary belief, that thought occurring itself is all that is necessary.
So this is the real point I'm making, that a statement, "I believe in Jesus" has absolutely no bearing on how a person behaves morally, even if said truthfully. One only needs to visit an American town on friday, go the local bar with all its debauchery and adulterers, and then see some of those same people at the church on Sunday. There is no one singular "moral component" to Christianity at its core, because Christians can't even agree with each other on what Jesus said in the first place, except that no moral sin is too great for Jesus to have forgiven!
I'm positing indeed again, the extreme idea, the absurd notion that a person may be *an amoral Christian.* After all, Nietzsche said himself that Jesus was speaking a profound truth that was tainted by the resentment of his disciples, a profound truth that can only be communicated in symbology. In some denominations, this makes even Nietzsche a Christian!
One must understand that Nietzsche wrote for his time in contemporary fashion, and what he knew about Christianity was only current to his era. Even more, he first graduated from a Christian university for theology! Before he ever considered philosophy on its own! And yet, despite all his amoral, anti-Christian musings, he still says in essence that he is not anti-Jesus, no, he admires Jesus! He is anti-"the religion that erupted after the crucifixion!"
Behold. Nietzsche. He accepts the truth in Jesus, and rejects the bullshit that came after Jesus. This made Nietzsche the first Antichrist.

@@Jules-kp7rw That's fair; what I mean to suggest is that optimism is just an enabler of activity.
If your goal is to lounge, and you're optimistic about lounging, muy bien.
If your goal is to work, and you're optimistic about work, muy bien.
Where horrible comes to play is when there is a mixup between goals, feelings and current activity, and also a few niche things.
Optimism is an enabler of habits and activities, and can be used to mitigate the psychological stress of bad activities and habits and reinforce said habits, as well as reinforce good habits and activities too.

@@Jules-kp7rw I guess in my understanding, the side of optimism comes from the idea of optimism as an enabler.
Lets say theres a dude who's killing people and he's optimistic about his situation. He's probably going to keep killing, or feel less moral qualms about murder because optimism is an enabler of his actions. Like he could hate killing people, but optimism, looking forwards, has him killing still because he dreams of a time where he doesn't have to kill anymore.
Optimism is more grey, as are all things in my opinion, but because it's an enabler, is enables all things it's applied to, including the "bad"

This was absolutely incredible! I was already hooked throughout the majority anyway but once you reached the end and began talking about no-self and dualism I immediately perked up as it mirrored my own psychedelic journey exactly! While I don’t think I’ve ever experienced a proper ego death, I can think back to moments during trips of establishing that connection to the collective human consciousness, and times after trips when interacting with someone and being able to put myself behind their eyes, that vague sense of knowing that I could just as well BE them, as they could just as well be me. I’d always at least *tried* to be a kind person, *tried* to be altruistic, *tried* to remember that others are living lives just as rich and complex as my own, but could always faulter. But then, having gone and seen and felt that for myself, having seen and felt that oneness we subliminally share, having seen and felt what truly unites us, all that stuff not only comes naturally now, but I am easily the happiest I’ve ever been and grown into a much better person. Now over five years on from my very first trip, I wouldn’t have missed them for the world, and the love I feel, the newfound optimism I harbour is only growing stronger. Remember, like he said in this video, you don’t have to take mindbending drugs to find this, but however you choose to, go have a look for yourself! I think you’ll be pleased with what you find. :) take care everyone, lead the best lives you can, remember that we truly are all one and that if we truly act with love in everything we do, then the rest might just work itself out ✌️☮️

People, like me, who have been on the hedonistic treadmill usually wont notice theyre on it. But once you do, you realize that owning things is nice n all, but it doesnt inherently lead to being happy. It can, if done right, but usually it doesnt.
What does however are experiences that mean something to you personally. Creating a painting. Building something. Telling a joke to others to spread a tiny bit of joy. Cook for your friends and enjoy a meal with them. etc..Those are the things that usually are fulfilling, instead of buying things. Buying stuff may give you shortterm pleasure.. But it will also make you hungry for more. And It will never be enough. The extremes we see with the ultra wealthy. How many yachts are enough? How many mansions filled with staff? Its never enough.
I also agree with anti-natalism. The problem, to me, isnt that there is suffering. Because, to live is to suffer. The problem is, that here is an absurd amount to experience in ones life, compared to positve ones. Which is why i refuse to bring anyone into this. But thats a choice everyone has to make for themselves. Or, well.. at least should think about.
Nietzsche also wasnt about nihilism. He feared nihilism taking over because of the decline of the church and made points to avoid letting it take over. Because nihilism would erode society over time, at least he seemed to think so. And i agree, for it is poison to the mind. He was about existentialism. To become the best you you can be and continue on despite apparent meaninglessness.
The Idea that awareness, whatever it is, being fundamental is also a very, very old one. Many believed or believe this. Many big scientists do too. Max planck for example. But who knows if its true, or not? My guess is, that we are all equally insane, whatever we think to know or believe. We should instead roast some marshmallows by the fire with our fellow apes instead of thinking too much. We will know after we die, probably.. or we wont. It wont matter.

It’s why confidence and self esteem is so important, letting others impose their will on you can really screw some ppl up and send them down dark paths

Anti Natalism is a very gravitating thing because at glance it seems logical. But in the end its vision is separate from its practice. In thought it’s empathy for the planet and the seemingly vain suffering of plethoras of beings. However its practice is a defeatist death cult down to the bone. It’s one step away from post mortalism. This falls in the same paralleled consequences as nihilism. It’s a fundamental no to life. Nietzsche’s fundamental philosophy was a big YES to life, to Amor Fati (love your fate) love life in utter totality and love the earth in utter totality. One philosophy feeds to life the other lullaby’s to death.

To further complicate the question of Nietzsche’s nihilism, if one accepts the distinction between moral nihilism (rejection of the truth value of moral claims) and more general epistemological nihilism (rejection of the very premise of meaning and knowledge) its pretty clear that Nietzsche falls into the first camp while simultaneously arguing against the latter.

      ??? Where? How?
Nietzsche's work is an antithesis of nihilism. His main argument is that in modern society, God is no longer the base for moral and existential fulfillment (that's what he means when he says that God is dead), and as such, we must give life meaning ourselves by forming our own base for moral and existential fulfillment. He argues that life must give itself meaning, and as such is a direct opposition to nihilism, as well as religious-based meaning because it seeks meaning outside of life and also romanticizes its end.

I almost cried in the end, the idea that all things and all beings and beliefs, and everything that exists is only one, makes me feel so fufilled and connected. i've never felt this way before. it makes me feel so close to everything, and relate to everything that is, and especially God, it makes me feel like i'm him, but not him, and we all are like this, but most people have not felt this, everything suddenly makes sense, everything has meaning now, it feels like there's not reason to question anything, because we are all one, and we're the same thing, and we are brothers, but not brothers, we are one. I feel like there's no sadness, depression, or any kind of feeling or mental state, i feel pure peace, some kind of peace which is impossible to fully describe, you just feel it. I feel like i needed this, i feel free, i feel like i can do whatever, but at the same time, i don't wanna do bad, because it would hurt me, since what i'm doing to something, is hurting "us", or the one we are. So yeah I don't have anything as grand as a belief system but if you want to have good mental health make sure you do these 3 things every day.
Not going to explain the benefits of exercise or meditation, most people know they should be doing both. But y'all always come after me for dancing. SO just know that I read a study and it was the best thing for depression. Try it if you don't believe, you can test it for yourself.

Don't understand why people think Determinism means you have no control, it's not fatalism. It's simply that whatever choice you make is just the only choice you would have ever made, it's not the only choice you could have made because if the only thing stopping you from making a choice is yourself then there are multiple choices.
If you are asked what icecream do you want "Chocolate, Strawberry or Vanilla?"
You now have three choices, there is nothing other than your own preference stopping you from picking one over the other.
This is where hipsters will say "but if you don't choose your own preference then it's not your choice" which is stupid because you can say that about anything if you zoom out enough, which is pointless and also besides the point of what a choice is. Then it becomes a discussion about what the self is, but at the end of the day our wants, need, preferences, environment, upbringing, past etc are what makes us who we are, the self is what it made up of all these things. So the person making the choice of ice cream is making a choice predicated on all of aka the person itself is making the choice of ice cream. It's like a poker game, you can't pick the cards but you can choose which to play. He has three choices, he then has to evaluate which one he wants the most and makes a decision based on his preferences which is apart of who he is as a person.
This idea of the ultimate self being some being separated completely from the brain is a joke, in that case if we were separated from our brain we'd not be us anymore because we wouldn't have any of the things that make us who we are. Our history, preferences, personality etc the self is all of us not just our consciousness. The consciousness is simply what makes us able to process all of this and actually make choices, yes it's proven that our subconscious makes a lot of choices and actions before our conscious mind gets to however there is a lot of data on that, which contradicts that but it's been proven that our consciousness can stop us from doing this subconscious action. If my subconscious send a signal to my finger to flick out my conscious mind will be able to stop that movement. Which once again proves that are sub conscious is also part of who we are, the only reason the whole debate exists is because of this obsession with this ultimate sense of self which doesn't exist. Our own brain given there are given there isn't a tumor or something are who we are.
And btw yes I know these out of body drug induced things have happened where people feel out of their body saying their consciousness or spirit was removed from their body, but I'm sorry taking people on psychiatry as proof seems a little silly

as an happy nihilist I find peace in the idea of no meaning.
as for me, the only meaning there is to things is the one life gives it.
Gold isn't inherently valuable, we made it so, us living things.
life doesn't have any meaning or value if you don't give it one.
I found happiness in this, I have control over everything, and I like to think that "To experience" is life meaning.
just do as many things as possible, like trying to get all achievement in a game, but there is so much stuff to do that you'll never be able to experience everything, but your goal is to do as much as you can with the time you have.
even if you believe in god, what creator wouldn't want his creations to be appreciated and noticed by someone?
don't limit yourself, try everything, you can do and achieve anything with dedication, literally ANYTHING!
Art, music, math, knowledge, muscle, agility, anything you see somebody do you can do, might take more effort, but its not a never!

Overall great video, but I think it was a mistake to use Nietzsche as the image of nihilism, and in fact, I think the whole concept of nihilism is a bit muddled throughout. It would have made equal sense to put Peterson or Camus as the image, as all three men are basically responding to a nihilistic world. Nietzsche has his Ubermensch, Peterson says we should just act as if God is true even if not real, and Camus says we should embrace the absurdity of it all. But if you say Nietzsche is a nihilist, then so are the other two. I think Nietzsche should have been given his own category. I think his belief structure is even greater for self improvement than Peterson or Camus. It would have been interesting hearing your take on Nietzscheanism. Also as a more minor point, I don't think blackpill is purely an incel thing. Funny enough, I think of the blackpill as largely synonymous with nihilism, pessimism and doomerism. Maybe I'm just chronically online, but I've used the term "Feeling blackpilled" and it had nothing to do with women or attractiveness or anything like that. Just depression or feelings of hopelessness. Bonus points for dissing The Last of Us Part 2. I'll give you a sub for that.

I'm disappointed I had to scroll down so far to find someone who understands Nietzsche's philosophy not as an endorsement of nihilism, but a response to it. He predicted in the late 1800's the mental health crisis of existential dread that we would all feel in a society where God (or any religion) is not really alive in each of us. He predicted the lazy comfort-driven pleasure seeking we would all have to overcome. When people say Nietzsche is a nihilist that only says to me that they have only a surface-level understanding of his writing and probably are just going off of what someone else told them.

But I said "To me". The blackpill has no objective definition as it means something similar yet slightly different to you. So if we were to define the blackpill with what the general "blackpiller" thinks of it, then I'm not really a blackpiller and yet I'd call myself one, as I would be referring to scientific materialism and determinism.

Determinism is just logical but acting like you cant change anything is dumb so you just have to not let it affect my life. Like skepticism this just leads to an infinite spiral of meta-analysis

I don't agree with every opinion you have, but this video is well made, and I appreciate the way you segue into the next topic from the previous one.
Some good takes on some of the most damaging beliefs, too.
    Keep grinding, brother.

At this point the Jordan Peterson haters are way more cringe than his diehard fans. And this is from someone who doesn't rlly care about him one way or the other.

He's one of the most embarrassing, self loathing people alive. Imagine taking someone who shows up to debate Marxism, but then openly admits to never having read the source material seriously. Imagine taking someone who calls other people mentally ill, but has to cope himself by popping benzos and having unhinged Twitter meltdowns seriously. All he does is bitch and push a fad diet while also being chronically ill. Could literally never be me. 😭🤣

@neg9801 because healthy people aren't benzodiazepine addicts who have unhinged breakdowns on Twitter daily, and push eating disorders onto their followers. Hope that helps!

It is often surprising to many people, especially in this age, that beliefs that are inherently true more often lead to a more fulfilling existence than falsehoods. I think this is because we are very confused about what truth is. We've deceived ourselves into believing that truth must have an appeal to rationalism or be entirely material, when that is not the case; it simply must be real.

Thank you for being completely frank about each belief. I think the videos formulation of not only providing information but discussing it as well is incredible, and I never see it in videos that are Supposed to be discussions! And I think analysis and discussion is the most important part of discourse, intellectual or philosophical, given that the discussion has foundation. Hearing about the utter cowardice and hopelessness in the negative interpretations of nihilism really puts absurdism into frame as the more rational choice because absurdism is nihilism, but the experience of absorbing and learning about absurdism is so freeing because you become ultimately fearless. When applied correctly and morally, you can be free from the fear of death, the pain of undue shame, and the stress of hanging onto parts of your life that simply do not work. I also appreciate your honesty and straightforward nature about psychedelics and the ego death experience. A lot of people do not lend them respect in regards to taking what they saw extremely literally, and talk about the actual, indeed transient pleasure (or displeasure) of an experience itself and simply do not observe the vast implications from it, which is the real and genuine part that leads to lasting change. I would love to see you outdo this video.

"There is but one truly serious philosophical problem, and that is suicide. Judging whether life is or is not worth living amounts to answering the fundamental question of philosophy. All the rest- whether or not the world has three dimensions, whether the mind has nine or twelve categories-comes afterwards. These are games; one must first answer. And if it is true, as Nietzsche claims, that a philosopher, to deserve our respect, must preach by example, you can appreciate the importance of that reply, for it will precede the definitive act. These are facts the heart can feel; yet they call for careful study before they become clear to the intellect." -Albert Camus, The Myth of Sisyphus. While absurdism is not self destructive, it sure is depressing.

Wow. I've been going through a harsh philosophical journey and not only have you talked about the beliefs I've been going through, you've also had extremely similar thoughts to mine on things like religion and nihilism. You earned yourself a sub and I'm glad I'm not alone with my thought process

There is optimistic nihilism and it has helped me a lot. Knowing that even though i have made mistakes non of it matters. All i know is that i will try my best and make life worth living.

Autruism can easily fit into the A tier
as a person who was once excessively altruistic and know many altruistic people, I note that it can lead to a total self-destruction
we can say that a very auttruistic person can/will *sacrifice* themselves for others
taking it to extreme (for the sake of the example), narcissism is when you only focus on yourself, and auttruism being the total opposite, where you only focus on others.
losing focus on yourself is very dangerous. you will often find yourself giving more than you can give, and risking more than you could. you end up giving the necessary space you have with yourself to others, which ends up leading you to do much less than necessary for yourself
without realizing it you start to feel an absurd lack of yourself, and as "helping others" is something very well seen by society, you end up taking it and thinking that only giving to others is good, which ends up making you move even further away from yourself. the more this progresses, the more depressed you will become
if you want to help others and still survive, you need to find the middle ground. you need to take care of yourself as much as you take care of others
