    Here is the finished section on SAS RAID controller using 2.5 in laptop-style HDs. Walks through the steps of installing a server-based SAS RAID controller on a desktop computer. I am using SATA drives but you can also use SAS drives. Be careful to carefully consider how to cool your SAS controller and SAS drives in your case, they require much more airflow than do SATA drives.

    1. Will this card work in a PC in order to support SAS drives? Using mini-SAS to SAS breakout cables?
    2. Would the drives connected to the card be recognized in Windows?

    Nice video, do you have a tutorial with examples using sas drive and what type of connectors using with some specific controller im really confuse with that.

      Good question, this was a lab allowing students to learn enterprise RAID both setup and repair of RAID arrays. But there are bigger issues, SAS drives run hot and they must be cooled, controllers do not have fans so they must be cooled. Most controllers use a 1-4 connector one interface goes to four drives. SAS have value only if you plan RAID arrays, if that is case check our video: th-cam.com/video/ZqPxuQ1ibKI/w-d-xo.html and th-cam.com/video/-7EjJYInIzE/w-d-xo.html

    Sir, please help and reply my question.
    My LSI SAS array card 588735-001 is damaged, it was previously configured with raid. If I buy a sas raid controller of the exact same type, does it need to be configured again or is it plug and play?

    • @TechsavvyProductions
      @TechsavvyProductions  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, and it is critical that you configure the new one exactly like the old one in order for the array to work properly.

      @@TechsavvyProductions If I replace with new sas raid controller and configure it again, will the operating system and applications that were on the old hard disk be lost?

    • @TechsavvyProductions
      @TechsavvyProductions  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, be sure as much as possible you restore the disks and controller as the old one.

    Can you use just one or two drives instead of 4?

    does the card require raid software or will will the drive be accessible by the host ?
    meaning throw in the card and a sas drive and then the drive can be formatted by the host and show up on the desktop as if it was a sata drive?

    • @TechsavvyProductions
      @TechsavvyProductions  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      During the boot process you are given the opportunity to access the controller firmware, its in the firmware that you setup the JBOD or RAID configuration. Based on what you configure that is what Windows or Linux sees as a drive.

      @@TechsavvyProductions i was mainly asking if it was pretty much plug and play because i have kali linux installed and i am thinking of getting one of them cards.

      Yes, after a driver is installed it should work fine.

      @@TechsavvyProductionsпривет, в прошивке биос контроллера 9260 видны диски подключенные к контроллеру но они не определяются в windows, контроллер lsi 9260 8i, драйвера для контроллера установились с отчетом "устройство работает нормально".
      Что надо сделать в этой ситуации чтобы нормально работать с дисками не создавая raid массива?

    How do I get into that bios? I have 2 1tb ssds connected to the controller, no drive connected pc, so no OS. I boot up and it goes right into my mb bios. What am I skipping? NO shows that beginning step! DO I connect another drive to pc, install windows then use utility disk that came with controller??? PLease someone respond

    • @TechsavvyProductions
      @TechsavvyProductions  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most newer motherboards turn off BIOS boot up screen text (example POST). Start by turning off fast boot and any motherboard logo displays so you can see the adapter card's firmware display during boot. As your UEFI/BIOS boots it must yield to the firmware in the controller with some type of keystroke info to access the controller. Hope it helps and thanks for watching!

      @@TechsavvyProductions I figured it out yesterday. I had to turn Legacy mode on for my motherboard. All is working now, but EVERYTIME it boots, it goes thru the process of initializating, I dnt press anything, then after it boots into windows. Is that the way it is suuposed to be???

      @TechsavvyProductions  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct, once you have everything working you may be able to turn off legacy. It depends on the firmware on the motherboard.
