Tesla Model Y - DIY Ceramic Coated Seats

  • In this video, I decided to ceramic coat my Tesla Model Y white seats. After 9 months and 14,000 miles the seats have worked perfectly but on my last trip, I noticed an orange mark on the passenger seat that didn't want to come off with baby wipes. I was finally able to clean it off but I wanted to take steps to per a ceramic coat on the seats as added protection. Take a look at the video to see how well it worked.

    Thank you for all your helpful videos! I’ve been watching for a while now and just ordered my model Y yesterday (using your referral link, of course 😉), and was just telling my husband that I needed to watch videos on ceramic coating seats before I take delivery so I’m ready to protect it! You also convinced me that I need to get PPF installed ASAP. I’m torn between doing the front end and fenders or just wrapping the whole thing! I sprung for red as well, so now I feel like I need to baby it. 😂

      Thanks for using my referral code! I really appreciate it. You will love your Model Y. Go #TeamRed! As for PPF, I would recommend as much as you can afford. I know it can be pricy and the car was stretching my budget to begin with but I have a bunch of little nicks all over the car after 15,000 miles. Nothing huge but annoying. Thanks for watching!

    Looks good! It would be cool to see a follow up in 6 months or a year to get your impressions on how it’s holding up.

      Probably will do just that. Hope to keep the car for many years.

      @@iowatesla I had this on in the background and had missed some parts of it earlier. Then I saw the other comments and had to rewatch the ‘twins’ part. Great job on that masking! Really good use of that effect too, so we could see you finish the front while you talked about the back. Really creative! I’ll have to pay closer attention on my first viewings in the future.

      The beard is gone now. Drove me crazy. The video effect was fun. This type of video is fairly boring. Was trying to make it interesting.

    I haven't used your referral code yet as I have decided to go with a Cybertruck instead of a model Y. Thanks for the review. I will save it for future use.

    Nice job! Where did you get your Baymax headrest sticker? I’m interested in putting them on my seats too. I think they look so cool.

    Isn’t the baby wipes and cleaner an overkill? Why you didn’t go directly with the cleaner? Thanks for the video.. nice material!

    Appreciate the video. I'm still deciding what to apply on the seats. BTW, were you in a transporter malfunction? LOL

      LOL. No transporter malfunction. Just a little movie magic to keep this video from being too boring. Thanks for watching!

    How did you do that editing trick at 7:50? Great video!

    • @iowatesla
      @iowatesla  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was a straight forward mask technique in my editing software. Didn’t plan it ahead of time. Figured it out during editing. Thanks for watching!

    Thanks for the video. Looks like an easy "install" but time will tell how well it hold up. By the way, do you have a twin brother @time 7:22? 😂

    • @iowatesla

      It was easy. About as easy as they get. No twin. Just a little movie magic.

    Does it smell strong? I want to coat my seats, but don’t want a chemically smell that overpowers that “new car smell”

    • @iowatesla
      @iowatesla  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      After it dried, there is no smell.

    Do you know if the ceramic coating contains silicone? I usually don't like the feel of silicone on a leather surface. Too slippery.

    • @iowatesla
      @iowatesla  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The label says silicon dioxide. So, yes. I think so. It is a little more slippy but I'm a week into it and it already is starting to feel more 'normal'. Thanks for watching!

      @@iowatesla Are you getting silicon and silicone confused? Silicon valley is in the S.F. Bay Area whereas Silicone Valley is in Hollywood. ;-)
      Silicon Dioxide is likely used as an abrasive (or protective layer?) whereas silicone is used as a sealant.

    • @davidhite1868

      @@iowatesla Does it make your fingers feel slippery after you touch the seats? Silicone does that. Silicon dioxide is the "ceramic" in "ceramic coating".
