Great song. Wow. Talk about the Blues. People just underrate AC/DC. This is why I get a little irritated when people call them a metal band. They're not. They are just GREAT rock & roll.
Simon Wright auditioned for the band twice in July 1983, exact dates unknown. The official press release on him joining AC/DC was August 5th 1983, roughly one week before the North American release of Flick Of The Switch. Tour rehearsals started in Los Angeles in early October. These tour rehearsals were recorded straight through the soundboard and "Messin' With The Kid" was just one of the "cover" songs they fooled around with just for fun.
I don't know which of the brothers that had the deep rooted core love of the blues ( Malcolm or Angus ), but gawd love 'em for it. Night Prowler ... What a perfect reflection of that love.
Once again: This song is not taken from the Flick Of The Switch album recording sessions, it was taped during the Flick Of the Switch tour rehearsals held in Los Angeles in October 1983. It was available on a bonus CD that came with the "Aftershocks" bootleg album which covers all the Flick Of The Switch tunes rehearsed and played live during the 1983-84 World Tour. Hence it's not BJ Wilson on drums, it's Simon Wright.
I did some checking after seeing some of the comments on this page. One source lists Brian Johnson's birthplace as Dunston, Gateshead, England. He is of English and Italian descent. That's what the source said, also that he has three younger brothers and a younger sister. The other source said Newcastle Upon Tyne, England. The sources all seem to agree that England is his birthplace. Didn't know about the Italian descent though. That was a surprise.
"Aftershocks". Los Angeles Oct. 5th 1983 Rehearsal tracks: - Rising Power - Flick Of The Switch - Nervous Shakedown - Guns For Hire (take 1) - Rehearsal Jam - Guns For Hire (take 2) - Guns For Hire (take 3) - Nervous Shakedown (mulitple takes and complete) - Rehearsal Jam - Messin' With The Kid (only available on bonus CD)
No, no, no. This is not taken from the Flick Of The Switch album recording sessions, it was taped during the Flick Of the Switch tour rehearsals held in Los Angeles in October 1983. U can probably find a lot of these songs on cd's up for sale/auction on ebay. All of these will be bootlegs. And may be homemade, but songs like this one, carry me home, johnny b goode live w/cheap trick, etc wont be found easily elsewhere
acdc is greates rock and roll , blues rock and hard rock band out there. I don't wanna say they do the Heavy metal , but they really were almost on a way to do heavy metal with songs like highway to hell and thunderstruck
"Aftershocks". Live tracks. - Rising Power (Tempe, AZ 22 Oct. 1983) - This House Is On Fire (Detroit Nov. 1983) - Flick Of The Switch (New York, NY 5 Dec. 1983) - Landslide (Indianapolis 3 Nov. 1983) - Guns For Hire (Detroit Nov. 83) - Bedlam In Belgium (Toronto, Can 15 Dec. 1983) - Badlands (Roanoke, VA 13 Nov. 1983)
Yeah I have this track plus Brians Shake, Rising Power, Guns For Hire, Flick Of The Switch, and Nervous Shakedown. I never could figure out who the drummer is. Thanks. I only have those six tracks from that. Are there any more tracks im missing?
and they will be too offended by you attacking them, i dont care what you think, the fact that they are rocking for more than 36 years make them, with the rolling stones, the 2 best rock bands ever
are you sure its B.J. Willson on drums? if this is from the Flick if the switch rehearsals there is also a video of it. and there is simon wright on the drums.
How in the hell can anyone say that this version of the song sucks. All they are doing here is jamming. That is what musicians do.ANGUS is doing some killer lead work on here.If they wanted to tighten this up from being a loose jam it really would be great. This is great for a jam.Anyone who would criticize a loose jam negatively when the musicians are playing something musically correct doesn't know anything about music.JAMMING is the fun part of playing.
I had it in favorites but I guess its been removed by TH-cam...says unavailable.....sorry. It is a decent song.....Not many slow tunes with Bon....Ride On and....?
Seventiesclassic, who gives a fuck? If you truly understood what a classic is, as your name suggests, you would understand that this is a band that has not just been around for 36 years, but has kicked ass for that same amount of time, unlike Status Quo and Deep Purple. Look at how their new album sold, how their current tour has seen such high attendence. They are rock gods.
AC/DC don't like greatest hits or similiar albums. The only thing close is Who Made Who. Anyway, every fan knows of all their rare songs because of youtube.
I Call it Messin with a Junior Wells / Rory Gallagher song and screwing it up Bad , Brian singing messing with " A " kid should be " the Kid " I Love AC/DC but this is a Low point LADYS AND GENTLEMEN ...... RORY GALLAGHER Rory Gallagher "messin with the kid" (Madrid 1975)
i find this rather hard to believe to be ac/dc....why all the delay on the drums?....the rest of the tracks cut from the same album aren't like that. The sound is completly diffrent.
Great song. Wow. Talk about the Blues. People just underrate AC/DC. This is why I get a little irritated when people call them a metal band. They're not. They are just GREAT rock & roll.
Yep..heavy blues rock. Awesomeness 👌
God I wish they would do this sort of stuff on albums and live. It's in their blood.

brian's voice is really bluesy here, and it's awesome!
I don't know which of the brothers that had the deep rooted core love of the blues ( Malcolm or Angus ), but gawd love 'em for it. Night Prowler ... What a perfect reflection of that love.
I love everyone who posts these rare AC/DC songs...I've never heard any other version of this song, but AC/DC rocks it.
Try Rory Gallagher live in Europe. A great version on there 👍.
@@stevendean4290 Gave it a go. Not as bluesy, but it felt almost... I dunno - Dire Straits-ish? Well worth the 6 min. Thanks! :)
fly on the wall rocks .. back in business ... what a rockin song...
I love Angus's amazing blues!!!!!!!
Messin' With The Kid" is a 1960 American blues song originally recorded by Junior Wells and credited to songwriter/producer Mel London

Yeah! I believe it, sounds the same crap production.
This song is better than any on FOTW though
great song. should have been on the album. or at least backtracks or the remastered edition.
Evan Maynard agreed!
Simon joined after the recording was finished,BUT is seen on all the music videos and played them all live in 1983
Love it. AC/DC rules.

@mikszn You're absolutely right ... They do play a great blues ...
It's BJ Wilson on drums. This was before Simon was hired and after Phil was fired. Look at the tags, you'll see his name there.
U can probably find a lot of these songs on cd's up for sale/auction on ebay. All of these will be bootlegs. And may be homemade, but songs like this one, carry me home, johnny b goode live w/cheap trick, etc wont be found easily elsewhere

Rock Blues
If you take Wiki as gospel you're in trouble. And if you read the entry carefully it said "may feature".
Johnny Winter's version is up there too.
"Aftershocks". Live tracks.
- Rising Power (Tempe, AZ 22 Oct. 1983)
- This House Is On Fire (Detroit Nov. 1983)

- Guns For Hire (Detroit Nov. 83)
- Bedlam In Belgium (Toronto, Can 15 Dec. 1983)

AC/DC should play more blues-rock songs IMO :D
It's to good to be real.
all the old blues players have been playing the same song with different lyrics they're entire carees, its just the blues
Good thing for the right thng
There are 2 more songs that haven't been released from the vaults of the Flick of the Switch era
Ya the way they used to when Bon Scott was with them in the early days.
Yeah I have this track plus Brians Shake, Rising Power, Guns For Hire, Flick Of The Switch, and Nervous Shakedown. I never could figure out who the drummer is. Thanks. I only have those six tracks from that. Are there any more tracks im missing?
No, BJ Wilson was never asked back after the Flick Of The Switch sessions.
blues an rock'n roll it is the gun of AC/DC
and Brian's strange voice
@bill53100 Absolutely Right !! all best !
the comments page is for arguing. if you REALLY just want to listen to the music, don't even scroll down.

yes he did larryoloai
Great song.
Fuck haters.
Love acdc.
I'm not a very big fan of AC/DC at all, but this wasn't too bad. Has a nice rock-steady rhythm.
i like to listen to this and sing "sweet home chicago" eric claptons version
I'm still looking for this on mp3 or wav file. Can anyone help me out?
That's Simon Wright on drums not BJ Wilson
Wow, you really got all that?
If you ever wanna sell (I really doubt it, but you never know)some of it, i'd like to buy.
@poopyguy1694 haha you tell em poopy guy!!! :D
and they will be too offended by you attacking them, i dont care what you think, the fact that they are rocking for more than 36 years make them, with the rolling stones, the 2 best rock bands ever
LOL, look at the video tags... see BJ Wilson? he was drumming.
Do you have the extra Guns takes? I have all of that except those.
@lassalle4 Thanks :)
It isn't it was recorded during the Flick of the Switch tour rehearsals.
reverb and delay are 2 diffrent things. The vocals and guitars have reverb on them, the drums have delay.
are you sure its B.J. Willson on drums? if this is from the Flick if the switch rehearsals there is also a video of it. and there is simon wright on the drums.
is this a bonus track or something?
Hey does anyone know where I could find the lyrics to this cover song?
How in the hell can anyone say that this version of the song sucks. All they are doing here is jamming. That is what musicians do.ANGUS is doing some killer lead work on here.If they wanted to tighten this up from being a loose jam it really would be great. This is great for a jam.Anyone who would criticize a loose jam negatively when the musicians are playing something musically correct doesn't know anything about music.JAMMING is the fun part of playing.
Sounds like their own version of Rory Gallagher's "Messin' with the kid"
How can I get this in an mp3 format?
Question, how can you tell its BJ Wilson, I always assumed it was Simon.
This song is great! But it wudnt really fit on FOTS since it's so raw. But one thing is sure. This thing is way underrated!
I had it in favorites but I guess its been removed by TH-cam...says unavailable.....sorry. It is a decent song.....Not many slow tunes with Bon....Ride On and....?
AC/DC didn’t do bad i like there songs but I don’t know why they didn’t put this on flick of the switch
no way easy to recognise angus too
@MaximumRocker30 look for rory gallagher
@patorr69 Oh I know I just mean not their style.
It's a good song, if they ever felt like redoing it. It just wouldn't fit in with the rest of the album, which rocks hard.
why ultra rare? lol.....well...it's NOt....but I love it..beCaUse it is AC/DC !
RORY GALLAGHER
LetThereBeACDC, you mean you found the original I'm A Rebel recorded by ACDC? You should definitely post that one, Dude!... Interested in trading?
u can confirm this shit o.O?
@lassalle4 WTF!!!?
the deffinately not phil. some one was riding on a cymbal.
Ron would have killed that song bon Scott would have killed it
its a juinior wells cover.................
wow, acdc doing a junior wells tune. acdc is a good rock band but they should leave the blues to the pros. although this is pretty good
Seventiesclassic, who gives a fuck? haha
Really, they didn't do jack shit in the Bahamas? I suppose they didn't do jack shit when the recorded Back in Black in the Bahamas either...
Mess with God fella's I speak English and I am sovereign Lord Andrew of Australia and New Zealand and Antarctica
Nope.
Look at the tags....
Let me be very clear, you DO NOT have the original recording of "I'm A Rebel" to claim that you do is BS!
I Call it Messin with a Junior Wells / Rory Gallagher song and screwing it up Bad ,
Brian singing messing with " A " kid should be " the Kid " I Love AC/DC but this is a Low point
LADYS AND GENTLEMEN ...... RORY GALLAGHER Rory Gallagher "messin with the kid" (Madrid 1975)
its a 12 bar blues fool
No worries, there's a lot of misleading information concerning these so called "rare AC/DC tracks".
Rory Gallagher made this song best
i find this rather hard to believe to be ac/dc....why all the delay on the drums?....the rest of the tracks cut from the same album aren't like that. The sound is completly diffrent.
