Your channel is much better than other one mentioned and not just because I tired of watching carburetor float bowls being cleaned. You read the service manuals and show respect for professional solutions. McGuyver fixes can be impressive, but sometimes bailing wire and chewing gum are the wrong answer.

One of the better Cub’s Wes. That’s a real nice find my friend. My old neighbor had the 3000 series or the next model, can’t really remember just know that thing was a tank and it looks just like yours. Same everything. He’d pull fairly large trailers around the property with it. I believe it also has a vacuum operated PTO engagement too which was very nifty. Edit: Never Fails. Should complete the video before I comment 😂 We sell used tractors of similar capabilities for about 600, we also give credit towards brand new mowers for about 150 to 200 for your style mower.

I'd say a 100 to a $150 in condition you got it in. That's in my neck of the woods. Just think the besils rubricated the top end really really good. And must I one is a big fan of those constant tension clamps
I too am a fan of Mustie1, I envy his hoard, I can't build a stash like his yet, but I want to! I would see what Craig'slist and eBay have to offer before I'd contact Cub Cadet. Mustie could teach you how to stretch your dollars! Kreosene (Diesel fuel is kerosene with paraffin wax to lubricate the pump and injrctors) won't run in a gas engine, but it's the best out of any other fluid to make that mistake with! Nice find Wes!
Unfortunately, parts for this rig are quite a bit more expensive and harder to come by than parts for the smaller machine Mustie generally tinkers with.
I invested $1200 CDN on a 20 years old mower. Mainly a new deck with all the quills , idlers, belts and blades. Tune-up and carb kit. 4 tubes and it runs like a charm. The only plastic parts are the head lamps and grass deflector on the deck.
I’m an expert on these Cub’s and it was fun watching you stumble through that. I buy them in that condition for around $400. BTW it’s a Kohler Command engine, not a Briggs. They are known to leak and blow up at an early age. Keep an eye on your oil level.

I resurrected a free 1994 vintage Toro / Wheel Horse 264-6 with a 14HP Kohler recently that'd sat and been abandoned for ~5 years after it wouldn't start one spring. Carb was dickered (so rotten the main jet broke the carb casting in two when I tried to break it loose), fuel line was all cracked and collapsed, fuel petcock was clogged with rust from water in the fuel pooling in it, the petcock grommet crumbled when I touched it, and the fuel tank was full of algae. new carb, fuel pump, fuel line, fuel filter, fuel petcock, fuel petcock grommet, and a thorough cleaning of the tank, and now it runs great. also had to epoxy the shattered hood back together and unseize the brake caliper with a torch and a hammer (those two repairs are related). the deck is completely rotten, but it came with a 46" cut single-stage snowblower attachment so I'm not too mad.

If there were clamps on it to begin with, it’s a good idea to keep some on there. I’ve had a situation where just the pressure build up in the tank in the summer pushed a fuel line off it’s fitting. The fitting wasn’t barbed, but a slight bulge around the circumference. It definitely needed a clamp behind that to hold the line on.
one that old around Oklahoma goes for about 150 to 300 dollars, depending on the seller. If they know what they have, might even go for $500.00. glad you got it running with minor things.
Did you say what you paid for it? Love the quick easy fixes and getting a deal on them. I recently bought a 97 f150 with emission CE codes and a misfire and I fixed it with some MAF cleaner and new spark plugs but of course it needs other maintenance.
Well for it to have a swig of a little diesel it brought everything back around with it being oily. As seen from Derek on his VGG channel, he uses 50:1 two stroke fuel for the initial bark off to lube things. Lol no harm no foul it ran🤷♂️
That's about what they bring around here. The smaller homeowner type rigs bring $50-150 for a dead one, $300 or so for a rough runner, maybe $450-500 for a good one. Larger tractors add about 50%.
My neighbor had a Cub Cadet back in the early 90's. It had a combination starter/alternator that died almost every year. Every time he went to buy a new starter/alternator, the price doubled from the previous time.
Really my starter alternator on my 1971 Cub Cadet 127 is original and the Cub starts right up every time. The battery may not last if you don't take it out in the winter.
The decks rust out and they are probably on the second one, the pulleys also get loose. They welded that nut so it would not vibrate loose on the steering. I can save you on that sending unit, always fill it when you go to mow the lawn. That looks nothing like the cub cadet I used to till tobacco many moons ago.
Running about $250.00 in your case not running under $100.00 Musty gets a lot of stuff like that free. No deals like that around here. I agree with your father 1500 hours is the end of the world with those. We switched to liquid cooked diesel tractors over 20 years ago for this reason. I can get 3000 to 5000 hours on an F series Kubota easily and fuel consumption is probably almost half.
When I was a kid I had a mowing job in the summer. We had a John Deere 345 gasser and a 455 diesel. They used about the same amount of fuel per hour, but the 455 was mowing a foot more than the 345. Old mowers are worth a little more here I guess. $100 might get you a stamped out two blade unit. You never see them for free.

Wes, going into the landscape business now? That looks to be like a Bolens tractor, they always were top of the line and very pricey, with that hydrostatic drive and shaft driven. Easy fix to get it running, if you put GAS in it though. The deck kits are generic and pretty cheap, try Tractor Supply or a good mower supply dealer. What's with the fuel gauge, going to drive cross country and light replacement,do you mow in the dark? They probably cobbled-up the tie rod ends do to parts availability or again, price, but your a pretty good cobbler too. Find some grass, want to see it mow. BTW,what happened to the dashboard job? Oh almost forgot, in NY that is a side of the road pick-up, just scrap, repair shops here at least $75 hr. for labor.

Most deck no matter the brand if you don’t clean the deck and the up keep on blades tire pressure is a must for a level deck as wellwell gas will thin it and will be ok
lol you know i was watching the clear fuel line and thinking that looks a lot like diesel but chalked it up to the camera or hose and then you say it's diesel. looks like it will be a decent mower when your got her fixed up.

When I was a kid I accidentally put 5 gallons of fuel oil in my dads 6 cylinder '63 Chevy Biscayne wagon, didn't hurt it any.

They replace the deck because grass rots out the deck if it's not cleaned off.
The decks crack where the blade spindles mount.

I always mark my red cans with yellow tape on the handle and a stripe around the belly for Diesel lol

I'd just think of that diesel as a little top end oil - not a bad idea for starting up an engine that's been sitting for a while.

None runners here in Houston are around a hundred but runners will bring 400-500 without a problem. That is a good tractor.

It's a Braun from Harbor Freight. They work OK, but they are pretty delicate.
I purchased a Huskee one from facebook once it worked great the first 2 years then it started eatting up belts and i never could figure out why.

I have a JD 111 from 1982 that I use every year. That thing is unbelievably heavy.
Those are called "corbin" clamp pliers. I sold a ton of them over the years.
