Things I find WEIRD, in amazing BUDAPEST - HUNGARY

  • Salut les morues! :)
    First of all, I love Budapest and Hungary to the bottom of my heart! :)
    I made this video to smile and have fun with the random little things that can seem weird to someone when they travel and/or live abroad. I avoided on purpose all the heavy stuff as this is not a critique but only a fun way to look at the differences that make the life abroad so interesting and full of colors. Obviously this is full of exaggerations, but it has to be taken lightly! By no mean am I insulting Hungary or its inhabitants, this is just to have fun all together!
    That being said, I hope you enjoy the video, and if not, here is a free package of 100 tissues to absorb your tears! ;) (Bocsi, I had to say it! :D )

    Enjoy the video! :)

    • @KilianKlein
      @KilianKlein  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I see ! I guess i basically only know the center of Budapest which would explain the remainings of the flats for rich people ;)

    • @aifulin8581
      @aifulin8581 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Kilian Klein I don't have a clear understanding of why we built those ceilings so high back in the 19th century, but I assume that this way large windows could be contructed to the houses, plus people needed enough space for their gigantic chandeliers (because yeah, these flats belonged to elegant, rich people). But these kind of old flats only exist in BP city centre and the centres of other historical towns, the vast majority of Hungarian flats and houses have normal ceilings about 2.5 m height. So don't worry, if you move out of city centre, you won't have these problems anymore xD

  • @therealpeter2267

    When we had the toilet with the hole in the back you are talking about that was really bad, like no joke I had to poop carefully to not get splashed by the dirty toilet water and sometimes to avoid it I had to lift from the toilet like 20cm to dodge the splash. So I guess thats the reason.
    We have small packets of tissues too, but if you are really sick you appreciate that you dont have to open the little packets one by one.
    To get rid of the spider webs use a paint brush on a long stick.
    Decilitres hehe :) its sometimes nice to have decilitres.

      I'm actually quite surprised that decilliters are not used anymore outside of Hungary xD I guess it should be the same with decagramms, because I've seen confused foreigners when I mentioned that I want to buy 25 dkg of meat xD I think it would blow their minds if they knew that in some parts of Hungary, we still use quintals for measurement ~

    So i'm hungarian and only that you need to turn to flush the toilet and the fröccs part is true(by the way you miss that most of kinds have 2 or 3 different name lol) but you can buy little pacages of tissues EVERYWHERE. there are usually locks in toilets what don't need keys and there is only a few pub, where day don't have similar sizes. And by the way we leave the long pipe on the vacuum cleaner...

  •  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I went to so many old Hungarian flats and it was not possible to lock the door. And as I lived in Berlin, toilets are same. And it's not weird, I prefer German/Hungarian toilets as the other ones. I know in Germany, it's not weird for a man to peeing sitting down

      Kilian Klein Dude,this is a dumbest video i ever seen. If you want to clean the ceiling get broom or you can buy a duster with a telescopic handle. There’s nothing bad with the toilets in Hungary. Well designed and just rearly get clugged. You shouldn’t criticize the language rather learn and amazed it cause it’s a beautiful language. We have more ways to express ourself than other nationalities have.

    • @KilianKlein
      @KilianKlein  6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I believe you have missed the tone of this video. This is not a criticism nor an analysis of any sort, this is just a comedy video to take waaaaaay lightlier than you apparently did. :) I am deeply sorry if you got offended but this clearly wasn't meant for that.
      No idea if you already lived abroad but finding little things weird is actually one of the best parts of the charm of the whole thing! And laughing about it together, locals AND foreigners, is a great way to actually make those differences obsolete! :) For example, when I hear foreigners who live in France saying that having beers served at our McDonalds is weird, or that our bathrooms have "bidets" is funny, I find it really interesting and actually cute as for me in my point of view of a local, this is perfectly normal so i never considered it something special. :)
      Anyways, again sorry if you did not get the light heart that came with this video and got the wrong idea of it and of me, it wasn't intentional!
      And just FYI, I did learn the language (obviously not fluently but i can hold some conversations ;) ), and I do find it very beautiful, just as much as I find Budapest and the rest of Hungary amazing!
      Hope you can forgive me and that you will consider this video with another angle after that. Have a nice day! :)

    I think 3 out of this is very stupid, first of all I have no idea in what shelter you been that they don't have locks on the toilet, maybe at home it's okay as no one will break the door on you, secondly that tissue issue is stupid, there are other shops than the Chinese discount shops, Zewa tissues probably anywhere so that was stupid, and lastly the language... how can I say this so doesn't sounds mean, this is something special, hard language not a soft language as English, just because doesn't makes any sense for you does makes a lot of sense if you are Hungarian, as you can impress respect simply by changing the way you speak with elders, no other language can do this. So I call it special not weird.

      Again, as I have repeated so many times in the comments, I think you have missed the tone of this video, it is a comedy video, so it will of course add a little exaggeration for comic purposes and it has to be taken very lightly. There was no need to get offended here, I am sorry that you couldn't see that. :)
      This video is now 3 years old and at that time, it was indeed much more common to find packages of 100s of tissues rather than the rare packages of 10, it has changed now that is true.
      To answer the rest of your comment, I live in the center of Budapest, and I have been to possibly more than 150 different personal flats // restaurants over the past 6 years I have been living here for, and it is in deed much more common for a key system to be present in the toilets rather than a lock, and very very frequent for the key to be missing. Again, this is by no means something that you should get offended for, just a funny little something surprising for us foreigners (and i know tons and tons of foreigners living here, so i guaranty you that these examples are not just seen by me :) ).
      Next to that, I still say and repeat - every single chance I get - that Budapest is the best city in the world and the place that I chose to call home for the rest of my life because of all the best reasons in the world. :) That doesn't mean that some things won't appear weird to me. And yes, I say "to me", it's not because it's not weird for you that it is not weird for others. In fact, that is the whole point of the video, you've been here forever so for you its not remarkable, and you should have actually seen it as "funny and actually weird that they find it weird" rather than calling it "stupid". If you would live in France for a while, you would also find a lot of things weird and funny, and i'd be the first one to laugh at it with you, self-derision is a very valuable skill and finding out differences is also very interesting. :)
      To finish, there is nothing wrong in something being "weird", I'm the first one to call myself as such. :) The definition of the word means that it is far outside the norm, which you can't deny that it is the case for the Hungarian language. I never said it didn't make sense, nor that I didn't like it... Trust me, I wouldn't have spent so much time, money and effort learning Magyarul if I didn't think it was a beautiful language and if I didn't melt every time I heard a Hungarian girl speak it. ;)

      Kilian Klein Hi mate,
      I honestly didn’t mean to be rude at the slightest.
      Might come across, but this is another hungarian thing. (People often think we are rude but we not actually).
      I didn’t mean to offend you at all.
      I do appreciate your reply though.
      And I love the fact you feel like this about budapest.
      You a funny guy, however I do understand you living there as a foreigner and you find things weird.
      All the best.
