I’m not a native english speaker although my english isn’t bad but recently I realized another way I can improve my english is to start learning a new language and I started russian it’s been six months now and really its one of the best strategies I have done in my entire life. I’m killing one stone whith two birds 🔥 and I am recommending this strategy all the people who are reading my comment now …… just start learning a new language and then you will see how it goes.
Currently learning Italian with using English, and i can also say you're so right. Learning another language while learning English is could be the most helpful thing for both languages. I'm still on my way to improve myself in languages even if im not that good at it, as a 15 yo teenager, it's literally the reason i like living. (Thanks to you btw, you're giving me the motivation.)

Oh, guys, as a former English teacher, all I can say is TED talks are not a brilliant idea, they are far too VAGUE. Yes, many things are said, but the message? Usually zero meaning. I strongly recommend the website of the British Council, that's a reliable institution, and watching any film in English with English subtitles, for everyday language.

Then, listen again, and try to pick out some details. Maybe dates, names. Write down the date and listen to try to understand what happened then. Or, write a name and then try to understand who that person is. Then, check with the transcript to see if you were right; listen again, following the transcript. Another thing you can do is listen to music in English. Not only will you know the exact pronunciation of words, you will automatically remember them in context, and you will, without even realising, understand the grammar structure they are part of. In listening lessons we, teachers, structure the lesson so the first listening is about the general idea; the second listening - about the detail. It certainly takes practice, and much will depend on the accent of the speaker. Students usually find American accent easier to understand. TED talks in my view, are, frankly, useless. A listening exam will 100 % have nothing to do with a TED talk. They are aimed at native speakers, and you need at least a B2 to be able to understand anything in the first place. And just to reassure you, I've taken the IELTS exam, academic module. In this exam, the listening was a conversation between two people, which kept changing. Example (just from memory): Speaker A: "So, let's meet on Saturday, you are free, right?" Speaker B: "Thursday may be more convenient, but actually, Friday is best". Speaker A: " Sounds good, see you then". So, when did they agree to meet? ;) I taught English at a private university in Turkey and had a great time ;) Very respectful and intelligent students :)

Ich konnte Englisch, Deutsch und Japanisch lernen aber ich hätte 'dutch' (don't blame me idk how can i say it in german😢) lernen können, japanisch ist nur sehr schwierig und das Alphabet des Japanisches ist sehr schwierig😩 so i wish i had learned dutch instead of japanese

Hi! How am i supposed to learn a completely new language after I master the alphabet? Should I find a particular student book or instead look for different resources like websites, TH-cam channels or podcasts that can help me improve my listening, speaking or writing skills? Because perhaps not all student books are good enough to provide me with the knowledge I need. Most of them are not well structured and I think that I just lose time instead of making progress. I would love to hear your advice!❤❤
