Doc Brightside No desk dividing host from guest. I think that adds to the general feeling of coziness. Also, the general atmosphere now is, what are they selling? A book, movie or CD? So tiring.

There are authentic people to interview today too, However, the pressure of commercial media production to generate ratings and revenue forces a faster, choppier pace. The best places to find a longer format is public televion/radio and also various podcasts like Marc Maron's.

The studios heavily moulded their contracted stars during the golden years of Hollywood. They hid Rock Hudson’s homosexuality, and concealed drug and alcohol problems, yet fed Judy Garland drugs leading to her downfall.

I agree with your statement... remember that while I also go on to disagree/make a counterpoint. Movies also are stories. Can't some of the movies you're referring to just be about a story being told? Surely there are plenty that fall into the category you described... as well as the one I mentioned. I'm not offended by any film that wants to tell a story. Whether it's about white, black, blue, green, male, female, trans, human, alien, animal...etc. Plus, I'm not ashamed to walk out of a movie and ask for my money back. I don't understand people who say: "Well, that was a waste of two hours" Unless their girlfriend made them sit through it with them. Within 20 min, I know whether I'm going to enjoy the rest of the film or not.

Yep, Kirk never disappointed, smart articulate man. I never saw his early movies, mostly westerns, Spartacus, 20,000 leagues, always fun to watch. Just found one called The Villain, comedy western I've never seen. I remember seeing the preview decades ago, where he goes to leap on a train I think. and misses. Looks like fun. What a life!! RIP. Kirk.

"Lonely Are the Brave" is a personal Kirk Douglas favorite of mine. No one could compare his acting (and presence) to anyone else. He was one-of-a-kind. His portrayal of Vincent Van Gogh shows his brilliant ability, and as a kid I was horrified when he cut off part of his ear. God has you now, Mr. Douglas, and well-deserved, I'm sure.

Mr. Kirk Douglas is spot on in his view of learning the world around us and above all contributing to make the world a better place for having lived however great or small the contribution. Too many live in their own little monastery, thinking they can "divorce" from the world. Not a good legacy.

“They go to the movies to forget their problems.” This is what we do when we don’t want to see our lives as it is. In reality, we are the ones who turn things into problems.
Kirk Douglas came before mindfulness was taught. Now we realize that pain and problems dissolve when we face them, not forget them.
