    Awww damn it. Even though Kirk lived a long, full and happy life I still feel sad that he’s gone.

      Me too buddy. I wrote him a letter after he turned 100, and he dictated a letter that his secretary wrote that answered me. He's a veteran and so am I. I grew up watching him since 1951, "Along The Great Divide". I am now 74.

      It is really nice to see that, I bet he is a great dad too. While that is great to see, my own dad was one step from being completely disengaged from our family and it makes me realize how much his children were to have that in their lives.

      Kirk Douglas was nominated three times for Best Actor (Champion, The Bad and the Beautiful, Lust for Life) but
      never won. He received an Honorary Award in 1996.

    Kirk Douglas is so great ... at least he comes off that way outwardly, but also he has done so much that if people did not like him he could never have done. I think it was very rude of Dick Cavett to ask the audience what role Kirk Douglas got an Oscar for when he never got an Oscar. What a crap disrespectful thing to do.

    • @clintonsmith5163
      @clintonsmith5163 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't believe it was intended to be disrespectful. I think that Cavett's intention (most likely his intention, because I can't read his mind) was to prove that many of Kirk's performances were seen as Oscar-worthy by the audience.

      Well, he is supposed to be an expert world class level interviewer and talk show host ... but if you want to make excuses for Dick .... ;-)

    • @clintonsmith5163
      @clintonsmith5163 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@justgivemethetruth It's not about making excuses. It's simply about sharing with you what I think his intention was, difficult as that may be. In any case, I see no need to get more riled up over somebody's perceived rudeness from 40 plus years ago than the supposed target of that rudeness (Douglas) himself appeared to be. Kirk didn't seem to be the least bit bothered by it, so why should you be decades later?

    • @justgivemethetruth
      @justgivemethetruth 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@clintonsmith5163
      riled up? you don't need to get emotionally involved or riled up to see that it was rude thing to say that might make Douglas feel uncomfortable in the middle of an interview. it is indeed a small and not important thing to say, but so what, it is more honest and important than most of the stuff you will read on YT.
