How does a Harley Davidson Dyna Batwing ruin your motorcycle... well... just look at it! Now, to be fair, this video is NOT a dig at Memphis Shades, the product is actually very well made. I really wanted my Dyna to be able to utilize the Batwing for some long distance rides like the Harley Davidson Touring groups... will it work?

I love the batwing fairings, but I don't understand why so many people use them in conjunction with bar risers that put the bars above the fairing. The shape of the fairing is designs to shield your hands.

Heya! I outsourced this to FIVER and found someone who made it for me at a reasonable price.
I'm 6'2" also and have the tall windshield, it works great, 80mph and the wind just barely hits the top of my helmet when I'm sitting tall, get a little slouch going and it's very nice.
I don’t doubt that one bit. I think the taller windscreen would have been the ticket. Donated to a fellow blogger to see if it works for him.

Ahh the dreaded helmet buffeting, you could go shorter as well that might change the airflow, throttle down under just did a video on changing windshield heights to combat buffeting, liking the new camera too👍

I agree with you, you needed a large windscreen on that thing. Other than that I think it looks fine. Toss some stickers or paint on there and it'll be good.

Can re-use the mounting hardware on the forks for other Memphis Shade products like the cafe and road warrior fairings or is it a complete tear down and re-installation every time?
You can reuse. I know have a cafe fairing and del rio windshield that share the same mount location. Really a genius system.
I am 6'1" and have the same problem with buffeting and I have solved it. You need to bring the shield up to eye level. Either put a larger shield on it or what I do is I buy these cheap wind deflectors from ebay that attach anywhere to an existing shield and that solves it. I have a bad hip and I even installed them on the side of my windshield to extend horizontally out to keep the wind off of my hip.
Dude I rode a Dyna Wide Glide naked with a half helmet from Ga to the Grand Canyon and back to Ga. They are capable bikes but I will admit once I got my Road Glide I am not going back when it comes to trips. I would love another Dyna for local riding..
Yes this exactly my thought as well. For day trips the dyna is more than adequate, even longer. But if I really want to put miles down, a new bike in general would be ideal.

I bought one of those used for my stepfathers Shadow 750 Aero and he loves it. The windscreen he has does the little flip at the end but he is also not 6ft tall. If I buy a Dyna in the coming months the plan is to get a batwing fairing for it. I want a Dyna Bagger!! Ride Safe Ride Often. For that is the way!

I agree with Big Al and others, a taller screen would block more wind. That being said, the batwing as it is, just doesn't look right on your bike. If it had some color, or a design on it, maybe it would appear mire natural. Great video, Stay well

you also need to add the headlight extension block and that will help the look/function a ton.
I agree that helps the look when it’s on but it looks terrible if you detach the fairing and run naked, it’s why I don’t run the road warrior fairing for that purpose. Thanks for the watch man!!
Every batwing I put on, I have to buy new plexi, trace the smaller, cut, drill thr holes, and make a higher one. Works fine and cheaper than buying a higher wind screen. Good fun vid 👍👍

Sadly it sits in my garage collecting dust haha. If anyone ever wants to pick it up they are welcome to it, but not shipping this monster. I have one on my 01 FXDL and like it on the road. What I don't like is the headlight is sunk way back in the hole.
I can see the appeal. I think they make headlight extension blocks to make it flush but then it looks goofy with the fairing off

When i swapped out my windscreen on my old batwing i had BAD head buffeting.
So, maybe a taller windshield?
Yep, I think taller is the key for it. It was fun to play around with.
As a year round rider, and as much as I like the looks of naked bikes, for me a fairing is a necessity, I've tried just running a windshield, but getting caught in cold rain with a fairing is a lot less painful.
This is really the perfect response as I feel you and I have different rides that we get in. Most of the time my rides are shorter only lasting half the day. If I was to go for longer hauls, something like this would be ideal, but not on the Dyna lol.
@@ChopperFett Even when I just commute to work, it's 12 hour shifts and my lazy attitude toward weather apps have caused me to have to ride home in downpours...plus I'm old!

Yep, it would probably solve it, but I'm really OK with my 1/4 fairing. I was bored and cold one day and thought... why not lol.
The higher the screen….the more buffeting! I have a 19” screen at my FBob…terrible! On my RKspecial i had the HD Windsplitter. Thats perfect due to the opening with door in the screen to solve the vacum!!
Yea I hear the splitter mailbox helps a ton in that regard.
Honestly i love the look of it on your Dyna !!! But i think a Road Glide fairing would look better !! Lololol ..... honestly though, i have my stock windshield from my 06 Road glide, and you are welconed to it !! Im sure you may gave to cut and trim to fit, but hey, the price is right !!!

I put one one my 1200 custom xl and i love it. Its different, i have a radio and it rides nicer. I probably will run my Electra glide more often. I still have a soft spot for my girl tho
The batwing doesn’t look “bad” on the Dyna...just doesn’t look like it belongs there. I’m sure it serves a purpose(wind protection for crushing miles). And I agree the other fairing looks better. Stay safe
Yea its a crushing miles fairing. IF I ever received a taller windscreen, I think I could make it work for JUST that, and ONLY that haha.
@@ChopperFett talker wind shield OR just remove it so the wind hits ya in the upper chest instead of head as he said he felt NO wind to the body rather have it upper chest. Memphis Shades sells a recurve windshield to correct it hitting in the helmet. Btw where did he buy this Batwing..?

You can put any of the memphis shades fairings and windshields on there as long as you have the plate and fairing.

For sure looks kind of odd. That headlight is set so far back with that thing on. Looks way better with the smaller one. I had that buffeting a lot with my last bike. Blurred my vision quite a bit. 👍
They do make a headlight extension block to make it more flush, however, when you take the fairings off it looks more than a bit goofy. Buffeting aint not joke!

ChopperFett, I like the look of the Batwing. What I would do if it was me, I would colour match it to your Dyna. Just my opinion and we all know about opinions.
I appreciate them. I think if it had a splash of orange and was gloss back it would look "better". This was a $100 experiment more for entertaining purposes though haha. Maybe if I find a used shield at a swap meet I'll pick one up.
I've seen batwings on several bikes...but this isn't a great look for yours. But if functionality is what your after, then go for it. At least the wind isn't beating your chest.

I’m 5’9” and hate how bad the wind is on my dyna wide glide. Rode sportbikes forever and never had wind issues. I’m conflicted between the cafe style and batwing.
I swear by the cafe fairing. It gets just enough off the body and the air that hits the air is nice and clean.

Functionality and aesthetically pleasing looks don't always mesh, with your height, you should look into a bigger windshield on top, I'm not big on front fairings on non touring bikes, the forks just aren't proportionally thick enough to look aesthetically pleasing
I agree with you on that Ron. A taller windscreen would have done the trick. But I’m happy back with my cafe fairing. Blocks just the right amount.

I had a batwing fairing on my yamaha v-star but i had to put a 10" windshield on it an it worked fine, I'm 6'5". Great video.
Thats probably what I would have to do to get the air all the way over. Do you end up looking through or still over the top?
@@ChopperFett I pretty much was looking through it the fairing seem to sit taller on the V-star it made the windshield higher. It did work great though.

It’s gone to the mydunnlifechannel. The wind would swoop over you for sure.
It's not something that looks good to me. The H-D windshield for the Dyna will block all the air you need blocked and doesn't look nearly as bad.
The first windshield I tried was a HD with quick release, it shook my head worse than this thing, but did look a ton better than this.

I don't see anything wrong with the look especially if it's functional for comfort
But at the same time, that fairing is my very issue with the Streetglide and why I chose the new Fat bob with Road warrior fairing instead, because the buffering with multiple different windshields on my old Streetglide drove me crazy and I could never find a comfort level that wouldn't bobble me around and i'm 6'
I think anyone OVER 6ft have an issue with just about every fairing. I tried the Road Warrior with 15" screen and still too much shake. The Cafe fairing is perfect. I still get blasted with air but its clean air anyway.
I totally disagree...I have a Batwing on my Dyna FatBob and i love it....Rode to Texas and Back with it from Cali....No problems....My FatBob looks and rides great....A one up tourer
The fatbob is the dual headlight. I think it would look much better on your bike than mine. How tall are you and what size shield do you run

The dyna just doesn’t look good with the bat wing fairing, they look good with those krator small fairings

@@ChopperFett Oh well. I want to get one and bring it to the local stereo shop and have them fiberglass in one of the shallow short chassis stereo's, a pair of 5X7's and hide an antenna inside it. Also possibly French in a turn signal relocation set up. I think it will be worth the investment.

Im spoiled I have a full size windshield I won't ride without one now that I've gotten used to it it just so much better with the weather in my part of the world. If I lived in the desert I might not want it .
